Abstract

This study aims to determine the accessibility level of OPAC in the SLiMS and INLISLite applications. Four main guidelines on aspects of website accessibility will be analyzed: perceivable, operable, adaptable, and robust. The four guidelines are based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). This study uses a quantitative approach with descriptive methods and data analysis techniques using manual checks based on the WCAG-EM guidelines focusing on two levels, A and AA. The results of the research based on four indicators are (1) perceivable in SLiMS and INLISLite experiencing problems in providing alternative texts, (2) operable in SLiMS and INLISLite found problems with focus elements, (3) understandable in SLiMS and INLISLite failing to meet the criteria for providing language, and (4) robust, both applications have succeeded in utilizing HTML syntax according to the provisions. So, of the four indicators, the SLiMS and INLISLite applications still need to meet several criteria at level A, namely the criteria for using language, using colour, and providing alternative text on non-text elements. Meanwhile, at the AA level, there is a failure in the focus element.

Abstract

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is one of humanity’s greatest modern socio-medical challenges. Cognizant of the serious nature of this pandemic, and before it was characterized as such, the Wellcome Trust in the UK took the bold and important initiative to call on publishers to make any research related to COVID-19 open access (OA) and encourage them to adopt open data (OD) policies. In a public statement, many publishers of subscription-based and OA journals agreed that all literature related to COVID-19 would be OA as a service to the public, society and humanity. Despite that stated agreement, evidence indicates that not all literature pertaining to this pandemic or virus is OA. In thus study, Web of Science data (August 4, 2021) indicates that 83.7% of 2020 COVID-19-related literature (78.4% for 2021; average of 81.2%) is OA, i.e., an average of 19.8% in 2020 and 2021 was not OA. It is not clear why that literature is not OA. Signatories of that Wellcome Trust-coordinated statement should offer a public explanation, or abandon being signatories.

Abstract

This study uses the Framing Analysis Method with a Qualitative Descriptive approach in 4 stages according to Robert N. Entman's theory: Define the Problem, Diagnose Causes, Make a Moral Judgment, and make Treatment Recommendation. What is concluded as the Define Problem is about the Ratification of the Capital Transfer Bill, which was carried out secretly and ratified quickly. Meanwhile, in terms of Diagnose Causes, it is about the massive coverage from media that is against the decision to relocate the capital, such as Tempo. Co, which is quickly responded to by pro-government media, such as Kompas.com. Whereas the Treatment Recommendation refers to the activities of the two media, which reflects an image of democracy, where freedom of expression and freedom of the press is upheld. The media can respond to a phenomenon freely without any intervention, and both have the right to determine their position in addressing the issues of the Archipelago Capital Transfer Project.

Abstract

Labelling books is one of the technical activities in the processing section of the library. This research is an initial study of the need to provide tools for labelling books, so as to provide convenience in the technical process of pairing bibliographic information in one book. The survey method was conducted on 21 librarians working in school libraries in West Java province. The results obtained were that every school librarian already had technical competence in processing library materials, and stated that they needed tools for the process of placing book labels. The librarians state that labelling is one of the library management activities to make the align collections or shelving easier for librarians so that collections can be accessible to library users. It is also beneficial for shelf reading to check if a library collection is improperly shelved and effectively locate missing or stolen books In addition to accessibility and shelf reading purposes, spine labels also give a sense of tidiness in the library because they are aligned and have the same size label used.

Abstract

Digital scrapbook is a learning media alternative that can be used as an educational medium. In addition to increasing motivation and interest in learning junior high school students and optimizing the division of labor in groups, this media was developed to avoid abstract thinking, a negative impression that is allowed to occur since they are tiny, which ends until adulthood the negative impression is bland and makes students bored. Studies related to developing instruments to measure digital scrapbooks as educational media use among tertiary institutions still need to be completed. This study aims to provide exciting education to junior high school students in science subjects, especially environmental pollution. Researchers used the research and development model Borg and Gall.

Abstract

Entering the post-pandemic new standard era in 2022 as of June, the number of borrowed books at the Indonesian University of Education Library could be more optimal compared to the year before the pandemic (2018 - 2019). Lending in 2022 can still be increased by arranging the most borrowed books in one group. This research aims to classify books more optimally, which will be applied to book arrangement. Optimal book arrangement allows library visitors to find books more efficiently based on the books that are most often borrowed so that they are interested in borrowing other books in a group. Data mining is a term used to describe knowledge in a database from a repository by finding patterns and trends in data through examination with statistical and mathematical techniques. Clustering is a data mining method that can be used to determine the data clusters. One of the algorithms that can be used is K-Means. The clustering pattern obtained shows 2 (two) grouping clusters. Book titles in cluster 0 contain book titles related to research methodology, statistics, measurement scales, assessment, and learning evaluation. While cluster 1 tends to contain psychology, counseling, religion, philosophy, management, economics, and history. This data can be used by librarians in prioritizing purchasing a collection of books in the subsequent procurement.

Abstract

Information is vital for organisations. Every administrative action conducted within the scope of the organisation should incorporate information. The qualitative method was linked with the exploratory case study technique. This strategy was chosen due to the study time required to evaluate the present circumstances of the Library and Record Municipal Office of Batam City. Based on the study, records management as the initiation of information governance in information institutions, namely the library and records office of Batam City, is still not running well. There are still implementation problems, such as procuring a record centre for in-active record management. Suppose the procurement of record centre facilities is held. In that case, problems such as in-active record management, media transfer and record retention entering the time of destruction will not occur.
