Abstract

Technology has gained importance in all stages of education, yet educators have been unable to figure out which of the many available technological tools best fit their classroom practices. Google Classroom is one such tool that is free of cost and has gained popularity quickly. This study investigates the perceived use of google classroom among science and education lecturers and their relationship. This study, which uses the questionnaire method, consists of 150 lecturers who have implemented Google Classroom for at least one semester in their classroom. Findings revealed that lecturers positively perceive Google Classroom if all the necessary resources and environments are implemented. It has a user-friendly interface, and it saves time tremendously. It concludes that google classroom has a long-term future in instruction at the university of Ilorin provided the application keeps upgrading to meet user needs. This implies that adequate access to the internet and intelligent digital tools are the major drawbacks to the use of google classroom. It was, however, recommended that if deliberate efforts are channeled towards internet connectivity and availability of useable computers, it would go a great length

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic that has occurred for almost 3 years has become a new challenge, especially libraries in reorganizing the services they provide to visitors. Meanwhile, the library as an institution / organization requires stable management through its organizational culture. The urgency of this research is to analyze whether the characteristics of organizational culture, especially in the scope of innovation and risk taking, care and responsiveness, have an effect on the services provided and become a consideration. This research method uses a qualitative approach with analytical descriptive methods. The main instruments used were interview guidelines and questionnaires. The data were obtained from a population of FIP students, with a sample of representatives of departments in FIP (a total of 9 majors). It was concluded that the characteristics of the organizational culture will affect the online services provided by the UPI library. Through the characteristics of organizational culture, libraries are able to identify the needs of librarians and of course provide the best service. There are also several online services that users find helpful during this pandemic. In future studies, it is hoped that quantitative research methods can be used so that the data obtained will be processed with certainty and concrete values.

Abstract

Scientific works produced by tertiary institutions are encouraged to be accessed online and openly through institutional repositories. This is motivated by various regulations from the government to prevent plagiarism and fulfil the public's information needs. The Indonesian University of Education Institutional Repository (UPI Repository), managed by the UPI Library during the COVID-19 Pandemic, experienced problems in providing access to limited collection data. Therefore this study aims to conduct a business process engineering analysis on the UPI Repository limited collection service so that it can be effectively and efficiently accessed by UPI academics so that they can contribute to the learning process. The business process reengineering analysis method refers to the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) approach. The results of the research are that there are additional features in the UPI Repository, namely Full-text reading services, SSO login features, and Full-Text data display on-screen access features. Changes in the design of the business process have resulted in a reduction in the process, namely VPN access, before the UPI Repository. There has been an increase in users of the Read Full Text on Screen service after the new design changes were implemented.

Abstract

The literature suggests that students commence university education with limited levels of IL, and this is true for both developed and developing countries. When universities understand entry-level students’ actual level of IL at the beginning of their undergraduate programmes, universities can objectively describe entry-level undergraduates’ IL levels and take steps to improve the levels to match with required revels for academic success. The purpose of the study was to investigate the information literacy of first-year undergraduates of engineering, architecture, and information technology disciplines when they commence their university education, and whether socio-demographic characteristics are associated with the information literacy of first-year undergraduates. 545 first-year undergraduates covering the three study disciplines responded to the survey questionnaire. Quantitative methods were used to analyse the data. Findings revealed that although information literacy exists in undergraduates to a certain extent, these vary by the discipline of study. The findings imply the need of addressing information literacy requirements by the discipline of the study to better serve undergraduates. Overall, the results lead to understanding information skills and behaviour of entry-level undergraduates, and what kinds of library services are appropriate and necessary for undergraduates across disciplines.

Abstract

Information literacy is evolving as a basic human right in the digital world, which promotes the social inclusion of all nations. The study sought to explore the role policies play in the delivery of information literacy in public university libraries. Using a semi-structured interview, the study sought to elicit the views of librarians in Ghana’s top-most universities on their knowledge about instructional services and availability of policy frameworks that guide the delivery of information literacy in academic libraries. It was revealed that different models of information literacy exist in academic libraries but librarians lacked a definite policy framework to prosecute the information literacy agenda. The study fills the gap in available literature on the role policy plays in information literacy, especially in developing countries. Universities and other higher educational institutions will find the results of this study useful in considering policies to guide the delivery of information literacy in their libraries.
