Abstract

Young adult women are in a developmental phase that demands independence and entails various transitional pressures affecting their psychological well-being. This study aims to examine the influence of father involvement and social support on the psychological well-being of young adult women. The research hypothesis is that father involvement and social support significantly predict the psychological well-being of young adult women. A quantitative approach using linear regression was applied to 185 female participants aged 18–25 years, selected via purposive sampling, who were measured using the Inventory of Father Involvement (IFI), the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Scales (SPWB). The results indicate that father involvement (β=0.235; p0.001) and social support (β=0.347; p0.001) each significantly predict psychological well-being. Early-adult women with high father involvement and strong social support tend to have better psychological well-being, making the strengthening of these two factors crucial in efforts to support the mental health of early-adult women.

Abstract

Coastal farmers face various challenges, and they who possess perseverance and passion for long-term goals tend to develop a growth mindset that develop their resilience so they can overcome and recover from difficulties. This study aims to examine the relationship between grit and resilience mediated by growth mindset among coastal farmers in Kulon Progo Regency. The is a quantitative correlational study method involving 136 participants. The measurement tools used were the Indonesian versions of the CD-RISC-25, the Indonesian version of the Short Grit Scale (Grit-S), and the growth mindset scale. Mediation analysis using JASP showed that growth mindset partially mediated the relationship between grit and resilience. A significant positive indirect effect was found between grit and resilience through growth mindset (p = 0.002). However, the direct effect between grit and resilience was negative (p 0.001), and the total effect was not significant. These findings suggest that grit alone does not always lead to greater resilience, emphasizing the importance of growth mindset in shaping farmers’ psychological strength.

Abstract

This study explores how adaptive perfectionism influences academic procrastination and psychological well-being, with mindfulness serving as a moderating factor. A total of 155 university students in Surakarta participated in this research, selected through random sampling. Using a quantitative approach, the study employed Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to examine both mediation and moderation effects. The findings reveal that adaptive perfectionism has a positive impact on psychological well-being while simultaneously reducing academic procrastination. However, academic procrastination negatively affects psychological well-being and partially mediates the relationship between adaptive perfectionism and well-being. Additionally, mindfulness plays a crucial moderating role, strengthening the ability of individuals with high mindfulness to manage perfectionist tendencies and reduce procrastination. These results underscore the importance of fostering mindfulness practices to minimize the adverse effects of academic procrastination and enhance students' overall well-being.

Abstract

Lack of psychosocial support programs for parents of children with disabilities leaves them highly vulnerable to stress, financial hardship, and social isolation. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the level of the participants' perceived social support from family, friends, and significant others and their mental health help-seeking attitude in terms of psychological openness, help seeking propensity, and stigma indifference. The study employed a correlational design to gather the research data, and utilized the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and the Attitudes toward Seeking Mental Services (IASMHS). The participants in this study were 207 adults (aged 18-65) who have children with intellectual developmental disorder enrolled in a special education curriculum in a public school in the city schools division of Bacoor, Cavite; they were selected using a purposive method because of their shared criteria that fit the study. The findings determined that there is significant positive monotonic relationship between perceived social support and mental health help-seeking, with Spearman rank correlation coefficient of 0.156 and p-value of 0.024. This suggests that as perceived availability of social support increase, confidence to seek professional mental health assistance also increase.

Abstract

Feng Shui is a belief held by individuals of Chinese ethnicity that continues to serve as a basis for home selection, as it is believed to create balance and have a positive impact on homeowners. However, there is still a lack of research examining home selection using Feng Shui from a psychological perspective by comparing younger and older generations. This study used a mixed-methods approach with data collected through a survey. The study used purposive sampling and obtained 59 participants ranging in age from 18 to 75 years, all of whom were of Chinese ethnicity. The results showed that both older and younger generations described Feng Shui as a Chinese spatial arrangement system believed to have positive effects on homeowners’ fortune and health, as well as having logical explanations. Understanding of Feng Shui in both generations was transmitted from parents. However, a unique finding of this study is that participants aged 18–56 obtained information from the internet, whereas printed media were only used by participants aged 41–56. Participants who believed in Feng Shui tended to apply it, while those who did not believe generally did not apply Feng Shui, although some still considered house layout and environmental aspects.

Abstract

This research focuses on the phenomenon of psychological well-being among students who play a dual role, namely studying while working. This study was conducted in two cities, namely Banjarbaru and Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, and aims to further describe the dimensions of psychological well-being that influence students who have dual roles. This study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach using interviews with three people with purposive sampling. The research findings indicate that students experience various challenges in carrying out dual roles, especially in managing time. The dimensions of psychological well-being are influenced by several factors such as authority structure, adaptability, time management, long-term perspective, and self-acceptance. The results also indicate that social support plays a significant role in improving students' psychological well-being.

Abstract

Generation Z’s heavy use of social media increases their exposure to negative information, which can lead to psychological effects such as negative affect, unpleasant emotional experiences like anger, fear, anxiety, and low self-esteem. This condition is linked to the phenomenon of doomscrolling, the habit of continuously scrolling through negative content, as well as Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), the feeling of anxiety about being left out of others’ information or social experiences. This research aims to analyze the extent to which doomscrolling and FoMO predict negative affect among Generation Z social media users. This research employs a quantitative approach using purposive sampling on 150 Generation Z individuals who are active social media users. The instruments used include the Doomscrolling Scale, the Online Fear of Missing Out (ON-FoMO) Scale, and the Negative Affect Scale. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results indicate that doomscrolling and FoMO are simultaneously positive and significant predictors of negative affect, with an effective contribution of 19.5%. These findings suggest that repetitive negative information and digital social anxiety can increase negative affect among Generation Z.

Abstract

Higher education in Indonesia is undergoing commercialization, shifting its role from a public right to a market commodity. This condition influences students’ learning motivation, which is now more driven by economic pressures and labor market demands than by intrinsic drives. This study aims to examine how students interpret their learning motivation. A phenomenological qualitative approach was employed, involving ten students from various universities in Yogyakarta. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis to explore students’ subjective meanings regarding learning motivation amid educational commercialization. The study reveals that students’ motivational orientation is dynamic, shaped by the tension between internal drives and external pressures. Students experience a shift from outcome-oriented (extrinsic) motivation toward more reflective and meaningful (intrinsic) motivation, although this process is often hindered by rigid institutional structures, heavy financial burdens, and the market logic that dictates the direction of education. The pressure to meet labor market expectations and academic achievements also pushes students to adopt pragmatic strategies, often at the expense of critical thinking, collective solidarity, and autonomous learning.

Abstract

Addressing adolescent problems tends to focus on problematic behaviour and pays less attention to positive aspects of adolescents that can be used as strengths to improve their psychological well-being. This study aims to examine the contribution of character strengths to adolescent psychological well-being. The research method used is quantitative research with a non-experimental design. Data were obtained from 822 students from 25 public high schools in Bandung City using the Values in Action-Youth questionnaire to measure character strengths and The Ryff Scales of Psychological Well-being to measure adolescent psychological well-being. Data analysis used multiple regression with stepwise regression calculations. Collectively, character strengths explained a significant 56.9% of the variance in psychological well-being (R² = 0.569, p 0.001). Among these, gratitude emerged as the most dominant single predictor, accounting for 32.5% of the variance (B = 3.26, β = 0.23, p 0.001, 95% CI [2.42, 4.11]). Unique findings indicate that although spirituality had the highest average score, its contribution to well-being tended to be reduced when interacting with other characters. The results of this study can be used to develop programs improving adolescent psychological well-being by strengthening positive character traits typical of adolescents.
