Abstract

Al-Syāṭibī is one of the scholars who have innovative thought on Qur’anic hermeneutics in the classical Muslim scholarship. He was proposed a “reading based on maqāṣīd” on the shari’a which differed from that of earlier methods. Marginally, Al-Syāṭibī’s hermeneutic abbreviation comprised of three tenets: (1) accentuating Arabic aspect as foothold in interpretation process on the shari’a, (2) emphasizing reading base on maqasid through circular-relational study on text-author-reader and other various accompaniment indicators, and (3) acknowledging reader circumstance role in the process of interpretation, so that no single-objective truth in interpretation.

Abstract

The Madurese kings, of Western and Eastern part of Madura, have shown their exsistence in the history of archipelagic kings. However, their exsistence are less influenced and less famous compared to the kings of  Java, Sunda or Bali origin. The investigation of Madurese kings (of Western and Eastern part of Madura) aims at finding the authenticity of their existences. This study is important to counter global figures idolisations and  to shows the local people about their local ideals who have given significant contribution to the foundation of Indonesian history. This study employs historical research method to dig information on the reign of the kingdom. This study shows that: first, one source informed (the validity is unknown) concerning the genealogy of the story related to princes Bendoro Gung and Raden Segoro showed the trace of people coming to Madura from the West side through to the East. Second, in pre-Islamic period, based on several inscription and manuscript (kakawin, serat, kidung, dan babad), showed that there are more information given to the role of Eastern Madurese than that of Western. The role of Western Madurese only available in Islamic period by providing the story of Prince Pratanu’s journey to Mataram and back to West Madura (Bangkalan), then followed by several kings of Western Madura. Meanwhile, Eastern Madura kingdom (Sumenep) have  been governed at least by 35 kings  since Arya Wiraraja to Bendoro Abdurrahman. The journey of Madurese kings continued until the arrival of Vereenigde OostIndische Compagnie (VOC) and Dutch collonialism.

Abstract

Discussing sexuality is often misunderstood only to be associated with sexual relations. In fact, sexuality is associated not only with biological aspect but also with experiences and expressions of the human being as a sexual agent. It is related to one's thought, feeling, and expression related to being sexual. Sexuality is a social construction that related to norms, values, and behaviors in different context. In Muslim society, sexuality has dual meanings: Sometimes discussing sexuality is appreciated but at the same time is prevented. This article explains sexuality from Islamic perspectives derived from Quran, Hadith, and Jurisprudence (Fiqh). This article shows that sexuality in Muslim society is influenced by cultural norms and religious doctrines. Doctrines derived from Quran, Hadith and Fiqh give significant influence on how people think and act concerning what is permitted and forbidden, appropriate and inappropriate related to being male and female. The explanations on sexuality in the Quran, Hadith, and Fiqh, in fact, appreciate human being as natural sexual being and fulfilling for both sexes. However, in reality, the dominant understandings of those sources are heavily influenced by patriarchal bias.

Abstract

The article focuses on four qur’anic manuscripts in Subang, West Java. I will analyze the material aspect of the manuscripts and its writing styles, using the codicological approach. This study shows that three manuscripts used European paper and containing “Concordia” watermark which was produced around the late 19th century. These three manuscripts might be written later at the beginning of the twentieth century. Meanwhile, the last one who used bark paper of daluang cannot be estimated its dating. The writing of four manuscripts used Naskhi style. There are also some errors in handwriting. Moreover, the manuscripts used rasm imla’i as same as classical mushaf in the archipelago. These manuscripts are different with palace manuscripts that generally used beauty illuminations and scribes. This study is not only critical to give another perspective on the spread of qur’anic manuscripts in Southeast Asia, particularly in West Java but also to strengthen the distinctive feature on material manuscripts, rasm, and illumination of qur’anic manuscripts in the Archipelago. These four qur’anic manuscripts show the importance of the role of the Qur’an in strengthening Islam in the society through the scribe of qur’anic manuscripts and its use in the learning of Islam.

Abstract

This research focuses on the method of anti-corruption practiced by the Christians and Moslems family in Ambon, using qualitative analysis. The result shows that the cultivating method of anti-corruption which is used in the Christians and Moslems family in Ambon is still giving advice only. I suggest the reciprocal method as an alternative for the Christians and Moslems family in Ambon to cultivate the anti-corruption. There some steps of the reciprocal process, i.e., parents firstly give the understanding to the children, they then can make their questions in a dialog. The children will be given an opportunity to identify the corruption problem, and the new question will arise and then produce an idea that can be developed and practiced. Both parents and children finally are asked to keep away from the corruption. It will be one of the solutions to the Christians and Moslems family to avoid the corruption.

The object material is Tafsir Al-Qur’an Suci Basa Jawi which studied using Gadamer’s hermeneutics. This is the book of tafsir which written based on the idea of Tafsir Anom V. The tafsir then was written, compiled, and publishd by KH. The grave that full of art elements is very interesting because it is devoted to artists and cultural observers and also does not recognize the exclusivity of certain religions, becomes a tourist destination in Yogyakarta, and is mentioned as the only one in the world. Seeing the phenomena that created from this grave, it can be said that there has been a form of grave identity development in modern times due to the development of human culture, which in the context of the artists’ grave is realized by art. Artists’ grave essentially contains the development of identity as a grave place, which previously had appeared a grave with a model of religious identity, Pancasila (multi religions), heroes, kingdoms, and even pesantren.
