Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the role of culture shock as a mediator between personality reformers and sojourner adjustment. The quantitative research design was used in this study of Muslim students from the Pattani province in Southern Thailand who were studying in Bandung. Respondents involved in this study were 225 people selected using saturated sampling techniques. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires containing 3 measuring tools that have been modified by the author including reformer personality scale, sojourner adjustment scale, and culture shock scale. Data analysis using SEM (Structural Equation Modeling). This study concludes that the theoretical model of the role of reformer personality on sojourner adjustment through cultural shock mediators is fit with empirical data. Structural analysis shows that cultural shock is a significant mediator variable on the influence of reformer personality on sojourner adjustment.

Abstract

The purpose of thi study is to examine whether self-compassion can predict the level of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among adolescents who live in foster care. The study used quantitative method with cross-sectional design. The sample were 140 teenagers recruited using convenience sampling technique from several foster care in Bekasi and Jakarta. Self Compassion Scale (SCSC) and KIDSCREEN-27 instrument were used to measure the level of self-compassion and HRQoL. Regression test was found that the influence of self-compassion toward HRQoL is significant on the dimension of physical wellbeing, psychological wellbeing, parent relations and autonomy, and school environment. However, self-compassion did not have significant influence toward health-related quality of life on the dimension of social support and peers. The role of self-compassion toward HRQoL implied that adolescents living at foster care need to develop a compassionate attitude for theirself in order to achieve better HRQoL.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the parent education program in increasing parental knowledge about sex education for adolescents, exercising the ability of parents in planning sex education and obtaining an assessment of parent education activities followed by parents. Research using the R & D (Research and Development) method with concurrent embedded strategy design. The participants were 20 parents who have early adolescents in one of Bandung's public high schools. The parental knowledge measurement tool was designed based on the concept of knowledge according to the Revised Bloom Taxonomy, while the effectiveness of the parent education program was adapted from Instruments for Training and Learning Evaluation from Leslie Rae. The results of the study prove that parent education activities are effective in increasing parental knowledge about sex education for adolescents, especially conceptual and procedural knowledge. Research recommendations are directed towards further improvement and development of the model, as an alternative to the development of multi-disciplinary cooperation in dealing with student problems.

Abstract

In recent years, the number of women workers has increased, it means women participate in both work and family roles together. Interaction between work family life can also provide benefits in improving the quality of work-family life if managed properly. Core self-evaluation and supervisor support are the factors that cannot be separated from work-family life. The purpose of this study is to examine the role of core self-evaluation and supervisor support in predicting work-family enrichment using quantitative research method and collecting data through questionnaire. Measurements used in this study were Work-Family Enrichment Scale, Core Self-Evaluation Scale, and Supervisor Support Subscale from the Social Support Scale include supervisor emotional and instrumental support. Data were collected from 113 employees aged 20-59 with at least one child. The result indicates that core self-evaluation and supervisor support are the predictors of work-family enrichment. However, instrumental support from supervisor is not a predictor of work-family enrichment. Work-family enrichment happens when the individual has a positive core self-evaluation and sensing that the individual got support from supervisor.

Abstract

The growth of the hotel business is increasing, along with the development of tourism. This condition encourages hoteliers to compete to advance their business with a variety of service innovation processes. Therefore, it is essential to know and identify the innovative behavior of hospitality employees. This study aims to develop innovative employee behavior measurement tools. We used a quantitative study involving 143 sales marketing employees in hospitality as respondents. The sample selection uses a random sampling technique. The development of innovative behavioral questionnaires was revealed through three dimensions, namely the idea generation dimension, idea championing, and idea implementation. Data analysis used confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with the help of Amos 22 software. The results of the study revealed that the innovative behavior measurement model met the goodness of fit criteria. These findings indicate that innovative behavior can be measured by the dimensions of idea generation, idea championing, and idea implementation. The results of this study also have implications for several hospitality practitioners to evaluate the innovative behavior of hospitality employees. Keywords: innovative behavior, scale adaptation, validity, Confirmatory Factor Analysis
