Abstract

Bantar Agung Village in Majalengka Regency, West Java Province, is developing agriculturally-based tourism. The Ciboer Rice Fields area is one of the attractions in the village of Bantar Agung that presents the visual beauty of the rice field landscape. New agrotourism opportunities will be developed in this area. The study has aimed to evaluate the visual quality of the Ciboer Rice Fields and how it would be affected by agrotourism-related changes. Data were analyzed using Kendall’s W test, scenic beauty estimation (SBE), semantic differential (SD), factor analysis, and multidimensional scaling (MDS). It is found that when more objects are added to the Ciboer Rice Fields landscape, the value of beauty is diminished. Village regulations are needed to protect the visual experience of the Ciboer Rice Fields.

Abstract

This study used a survey questionnaire to investigate the state and determinants of household food security in South Africa and Botswana. In South Africa, 1557 households in two District Municipalities within Eastern Cape Province participated in the study. In Botswana, data was collected from 506 in Southern Kanye, southeast District, and Gaborone households. The paper employed Household Food Insecurity Access Scale and Prevalence to investigate the state food security across the sample population. The Household Food Insecurity Access Prevalence was used to determine the characteristics of and changes in household food insecurity of the sample households. The linear and ordinal regression analyses were carried out to outline determinants of food insecurity in the region. Findings emanating from the current study show a high prevalence of food insecurity in both countries. Meanwhile, geographical location, household size, and socio-economic infrastructure emerged as common determinants of food security for Botswana and South Africa. The paper recommends state-mediated intervention to improve access to basic socio-economic infrastructure and address unemployment rates in both countries as key areas to improve food security status.

Abstract

The development of the natural rubber market in three years was relatively favorable for producers, which was indicated by the relatively high price level. This was due to increasing demand. Of course this will be a good opportunity for Indonesia to export processed rubber and rubber industry in Indonesia to other countries. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that can affect demand for Indonesia's natural rubber exports in each country's export destinations. The data used was secondary data years 1980-2013 time series derived from IRSG, BPS, FAO, Gapkindo, UN Comtrade, BI, and the World Bank. Methods of analysis using dynamic demand model "Stock Adjustment Principle", Nerlove (1983) and the model of Ordinary Least Square (OLS), Auto Correlation Models and Two Stage Least Square (2SLS) with modifications to several independent variables. The results showed that Indonesia's natural rubber demand in the market of the United States, China, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea is positively influenced by the volume of exports last year, the population of a country, and per capita income of a country. As well as negatively affected by the exchange rate of a country's currency against the US dollar and the implementation of the export quota policy.

Abstract

The sale of fresh fruit bunches in Putri Hijau sub-district has variety of marketing channels from farmers to consumers. The diversity of marketing channels should result in differences in the price levels received by farmers and the costs incurred by each marketing agency, such as freight costs, transportation costs to factories, fruit shrinkage costs, and other costs. This study aims to identify marketing channels and compare the marketing channel efficiency of fresh fruit bunches (TBS) of palm oil formed in Kecamatan Putri Hijau, North Bengkulu. Determination of farmer respondents is done by purposive sampling counted 41 people, and marketing agency respondents use snowball sampling method. The results showed that there are three channels of marketing of oil palm FFS formed, namely Channel I (farmers - collector traders - factories), Channel II (farmers - farmer groups - factories), Channel III (farmers - factories). The most widely used channels by farmers are channel I (farmers - collectors – mills) that have the highest margin and low farmer’s share. The merchandise margin and the profit-to-cost ratio indicate that only marketing channel I in Bani Village is efficient. Marketing channel I in Desa Bani Village has a marketing margin value of Rp206/kg with the value of profit to marketing cost ratio of 1.17.
