Abstract

Abstract: Character education plays a crucial role in shaping students’ moral, social, and emotional values, particularly in fostering discipline and responsibility. However, the increasing number of rule violations and the low level of social awareness among students indicate that character education in schools has not yet been fully effective. One approach that has been implemented is punishment, understood not as a repressive measure, but as an educational and reflective tool to guide students in understanding their mistakes and taking responsibility for their actions. This study aims to explore the experiences of students and teachers regarding the implementation of punishment as part of character education, as well as its impact on the development of discipline and social responsibility. The research employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Data were collected through observations and interviews with 10 vocational high school (SMK) students. The data were analyzed interactively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings reveal that punishment administered in a proportional and educational manner can enhance students’ understanding of rules and the consequences of their actions, while also fostering awareness of academic responsibility. The implications of this study highlight the strategic role of school counselors in integrating educational punishment as a reflective instrument within guidance and counseling services to support the sustainable development of students’ character and discipline.

Abstract

Every human being is endowed with emotions that can be well-controlled, as evidenced by the ability to regulate emotions. The gap relates to the understanding of emotional regulation in the context of drug addiction by addiction counselors, especially for Muslim clients who face emotional conflict, social pressure, and spiritual dynamics during the recovery process. Because the ability to regulate emotions in Muslim addicted clients actually impacts self-recovery, but its measurement hasn’t yet been used with relevant assessments. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop and test the validity and reliability of the emotional regulation scale for Muslim drug-addicted clients undergoing rehabilitation. The study used a sequential explanatory design with a qualitative form content validity stage for construct development through theoretical review, validation by three experts (religion, psychology, and addiction counseling), and readability testing. Then, the quantitative stage was completed by testing the instrument on 49 rehabilitation clients to test construct validity and reliability. Data analysis used descriptive qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis using Aikan-V, product-moment, and Cronbach's alpha. Logical validity in content validity showed a CVI value of 0.917, indicating very high feasibility. All items correlated with the minimum limit (value>0.2329) were declared empirically valid. Reliability testing using the Rasch model with a Cronbach's alpha value of 0.71 and item reliability of 0.94, indicating good internal consistency. The results of the study confirmed that the regulation emotions scale is suitable for use as an assessment to support addiction counseling services.

Abstract

Abstact: University students who use second accounts often appear open in digital spaces but experience difficulties in direct interpersonal interactions, indicating a gap between online self-expression and interpersonal self-disclosure. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-compassion and self-disclosure among students who use second accounts, which remain underexplored as spaces for emotional expression. This study employed a quantitative correlational approach involving 239 students from Universitas Lambung Mangkurat selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Self-Compassion Scale and Self-Disclosure Scale and analyzed using the Pearson correlation test. The results showed a positive and significant relationship with a very weak correlation strength (r = 0.131; p < 0.05), indicating a relatively minimal contribution of self-compassion to self-disclosure. The findings suggest that self-acceptance does not directly translate into interpersonal openness. Self-disclosure was influenced more by relational factors, such as trust, psychological safety, and the use of second accounts as alternative spaces for emotional expression. The findings imply that Guidance and Counseling services should integrate self-compassion development with interpersonal skills training. Future studies are recommended to examine interpersonal trust, self-esteem, and social anxiety.
