Abstract

Legal translation is the transferring the meaning from source language text into target language which not only consists of language system but also legal system. This research aims to analyze the translation  techniques  used  by  the  Indonesian  sworn  translators  in  translating  legal  texts  from English into Indonesian. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. Data obtained through content analysis on translations of the Indonesian sworn translators containing Certificate of Live Birth, Certificate of Marriage, Principles Statement of Terms and Conditions. The result of the research reveals: a) single translation technique dominates the translation technique in translating legal and law scientific texts from English into Indonesian obtains (66,67%) data consisting  of 10 variants (literal, amplification, recognized, reduction, borrowing, modulation, transposition, adaptation, colque, and description); b) couplet translation technique (32,%) data consisting of 16 variants (literal and borrowing, literal and recognized equivalent, literal and reduction, literal and adaptation, literal and amplification, literal and transposition, literal and modulation, literal and colque, borrowing and amplification, literal and description, borrowing and modulation, borrowing and adaptation, borrowing and transposition, modulation and colque, reduction and colque,  and reduction and adaptation), and triplet translation technique (1,19%) data consisting of 4 variants (literal + borrowing + modulation, literal + amplification + transposition, literal + amplification + borrowing, and literal + transposition + reduction). Researcher concludes that translation technique of legal texts from English into Indonesian conducted by Indonesian sworn translators contains three kinds of translation techniques, i.e. single translation technique, couplet translation technique, and triplet translation technique with 30 variants.

Abstract

Multiple Personality Disorder can be seen in novel entitled Tell Me Your Dreams. The character, Ashley Patterson was committed the homicide to five men. This analysis will focus on (1) the symptoms of Multiple Personality Disorder and, (2) the affect of Multiple Personality Disorder to the homicide. The research will use the qualitative research and documentation. The source of data is from Sheldon’s novel Tell Me Your Dreams as the primary data. The supporting are from journal, book, article, etc relating to psychology. This research will use psychological approach. The theory that use to analyze are the Multiple Personality Disorder, homicide, and psychology of literature by Wellek and Warren. The result of the research reveals that (a) the character of Ashley get the psychological oppression from the abuse and neglect in young age. It makes her build the defense from the trigger of re-experience in the present life. (b) the defenses lead the character of Ashley take the impulsive action and the worst was killed people.

Abstract

Mirror, Hands and Eyes is a technique to teach speaking which use mimic in it. This research has purposes to describe how the implementation of Mirror, Hands and Eyes, and to know the advantages and disadvantages of the implementation of Mirror, Hands and Eyes in teaching speaking. This is descriptive qualitative research. The researcher takes three sources of the data, social situation, informant, and document. The sample is using purposive sampling. Observation, interview and documentation are the technique used by the researcher to collect the data. Theoretical and methodological triangulation used by the researcher to measure the valid data. The techniques of analyzing data are compiling, disassembling, reassembling, interpreting, and concluding.The advantages of this technique are increase the students’ speaking skill, increase the students’ enthusiast, easily follow the correct pronunciation, lock the students’ focus. The disadvantages are the technique disallow the students build new words, and the lack of vocabulary makes the students face the difficulties to make sentences. It can be concluded by the theory of Panesso and Brown with little modification to make students speak up that show the implementation of Mirror, Hands and Eyes works in chronological ways with pre-activity, whilst activity, and post activity inside.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are: (1) to describe teaching daily speaking by using telephone through question and answer technique, (2) to describe the advantages and disadvantages of teaching daily speaking by using telephone through question and answer technique to the first grade students of Department of English Teaching IKIP PGRI Madiun in the schooling year of 2013/2014.In this research, the researcher takes five students of 1B from the Department of English Teaching IKIP PGRI Madiun as the sample. The researcher uses purposive sampling technique. To get the data, the researcher uses observation, interview, and documentation. In this research, analysis data is done by using descriptive analysis qualitative.The results of the research are: (1) the use of telephone through question and answer technique in teaching daily speaking to the first grade students of Department of English Teaching IKIP PGRI Madiun is divided into three steps, namely pre- activity, whilst-activity, and post-activity, (2) The advantages of using  telephone through question and answer technique in teaching daily speaking to the first grade students of Department of English Teaching IKIP PGRI Madiun are: the use of telephone through question and answer technique in teaching daily speaking can increase students’ scores, it makes enjoyable learning, students can focus on teaching learning process, the students have a good chance to practice with their friends in the group. This makes them more active in learning speaking, Last, the use of telephone through question and answer technique increases the students’ confidence. Meanwhile, the disadvantages are: the class becomes noisy when the students practice with their friends in the group, and some students have low vocabularies so that the students can not speak fluently.

Abstract

Learning to write is a difficult and complex series of processes that require a range of explicit teaching methodologies throughout all the stages of learning. The capacity of teacher to create positive classroom atmosphere and using appropriate teaching technique will help students to attain the goal of writing. This pre-experimental research aims to measure the effectiveness of scaffolding technique to the students writing ability. The result of the data analysis shows that the mean score of pre-test and post-test are 58. 87 and 71. 29 . Then the t-score  is 4. 45 and the t-table at the degree of significant 5% is 2. 042, so the t-score 4. 45 is higher than the t-table. It means very significant, thus scaffolding technique is effective to be used in teaching writing as it helps the students to write better. This result supports the proposed theory which stated that scaffolding helps the students to write by providing a support structure to enable certain activities and skills to develop lies on the frameworks used by the teacher, giving the actual carrying out of particular activities in class, also there is the assistance provided in moment-to-moment interaction among students and teacher.

Abstract

Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa kelas x di SMK PGRI Pakis-Malang dalam memahami teks naratif. Penelitian ini perlu dilakukan karena hasil dari preliminary study menunjukan bahwa siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami teks naratif. Selain itu, informasi dari guru menunjukan bahwa siswa memiliki motivasi yang rendah dan kurang bias bekerjasama dalam pembelajaran membaca teks naratif. Dengan menggunakan instrumen yang berupa kuesioner, lembar observasi, catatan lapangan, dan tes yang diterapkan pada dua siklus, ditemukan bahwa teknik KWL mampu meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami teks naratif. Secara kualitatif, terbukti bahwa siswa lebih  antusias dalam mengikuti pelajaran karena mereka memeliki kesempatan berinteraksi dengan teman sejawat, serta memiliki pengalaman baru dalam belajar. Secara kuantitatif, terbukti bahwa 25 siswa dari 27 siswa memiliki nilai kemampuan membaca yang melebihi KKM sekolah. Penemuan ini memberi informasi bagi para pendidik yang menghadapi persoalan yang sama untuk mencoba mengadopsi ataupun mengadaptasi teknik KWL dalam proses pembelajaran

Abstract

This research is conducted to explain the implementation, the problems, and the solutions of problems in the Implementation of Sandwich Graphic Organizer in Teaching Writing to the Tenth Grade Students of SMAN 1 Jiwan in the schooling year of 2016/2017. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The participants of the research are the English teacher and students of X-A class of SMAN 1 Jiwan. The research uses purposive sampling technique. The techniques which are used to collect the data are observation, interview, and documentation. While, the techniques of the data analysis are: data condensation, data display, and conclusion and verification. The results of this research are the teacher prepares syllabus, RPP, and the papers of picture Sandwich Graphic Organizer. The steps are pre-activities, whilst-activities, and post-activities. Otherwise, some students get difficulties in managing their time, some students make mistakes in using V2 that is used in writing recount text, some students get difficulties in expressing their ideas from Indonesian to the English language because of minimum of vocabulary, and some students forget to write a capital letter in the beginning of the sentence and full stop in the ending of the sentence. Then, the solutions of problems in the implementation Sandwich Graphic Organizer are: the teacher explains again about the steps of using technique Sandwich Graphic Organizer, the teacher divides the time of the students when the students should write the outline and when the students should develop their outline, the teacher gives the command for the students to open their dictionary to check the list of verb 2, the teacher asks the students to open their dictionaries when they are difficult in translating their ideas, and the teacher asks the students to pay attention to the punctuation when writing.This research is conducted to explain the implementation, the problems, and the solutions of problems in the Implementation of Sandwich Graphic Organizer in Teaching Writing to the Tenth Grade Students of SMAN 1 Jiwan in the schooling year of 2016/2017. Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the position of Black people as the folk who get discrimination in America and explain the Narrator’s voice as the Black people in conveying the equality between Black and White people in America that is represented in Invisible Man novel. This research uses qualitative research. The researcher needs postcolonial literature by Lois Tyson to get evidences the effects and goals of the author in creating a story. The analysis reveals that Black people include subordinate people, oppressed minority group, and lower class that always suppressed and exploited by superior people who have power. Black people try to fight against superior to show their feeling of freedom for getting the same position and equality as White by conveying their voice through protest. The conclusion shows that inferiority makes Black people who have lower position in society get oppression that cause physical and mental disturbance from superior and the Narrator tries to struggle and get confession of Black people from the domination of White in order to survive their existence in society by conveying the voice with non-violence way through speech, action and music.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the implementation of Picture Word Inductive Model and also to know the advantages and disadvantages of Picture Word Inductive Model in teaching writing. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The population of this research is the seven grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Maospati. The sample of this research is the students of class 7i that consists of 30 students, with the technique of sampling using purposive sampling. The data collections are gotten from observation, interview and documentation. In analysing the data, the researcher uses (1) reducing data, (2) displaying data, and (3) conclusion or verification. The result of the analysis shows that: in applying the Picture Word Inductive Model, the teacher gives explanation about descriptive text and the definition of Picture word inductive model and give example by showing the pictures. Before the teacher asked the students to write it by themselves, the teacher gives example how to write based on the picture. The advantages of the implementation of Picture word inductive model are the students are active, enjoy, have good enthusiasm in the teaching and learning process and the students can write easily because they have found the word in the picture. The implementation of PWIM also helps to increase students’ ability in writing skill. The disadvantages of this research are the students have difficulty in making sentences and it needs more time to teach writing using that strategy in teaching learning process. Based on the result of the research, the researcher gives suggestions to the teacher, students and readers. The teachers should be creative to teach the students, so the lesson will be more interesting.

Abstract

The main objectives of the research are: (1) to identify whether pictures can improve students’ paragraph writing skill for the tenth graders of Senior High School in SMAN 1 Magetan; (2) to identify the students’s motivation when the pictures are used to teach paragraph writing skill for the tenth graders of Senior High School in SMAN 1 Magetan in academic year 2018/2019. The Research was carried out at SMAN 1 Magetan, East Java, in second semester from January 2019 to May 2019. The subjects of the research are 34 students of grade X. MIPA -1 consisting of 14 boys and 20 girls. The data were obtained from several techniques: test, observation, interview, questioners, and document analysis. To analyze the qualitative data, I used interactive model; while to analyze quantitative data, I applied a descriptive statistics. It is done by comparing the mean of pre-test and post-test. There are some findings of the research which include: pictures can improve students’ paragraph writing skill for the tenth graders of Senior High School in SMAN 1 Magetan. The improvements of paragraph writing skill comprise: (1) writing topic sentence; (2) writing supporting sentences; and (3) using correct grammar and cohesive devices (conjunctions). In addition, the students’ motivation is better when the pictures are used to teach paragraph writing skill for the tenth graders of Senior High School in SMAN 1 Magetan. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that applying pictures as media can improve students’ paragraph writing. Therefore, it is recommended that the teachers can use pictures as an effective media to improve the students’ paragraph writing skill.
