Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of improving customer satisfaction, a key to business success, particularly for wood pellet products. The study aims to integrate the CARTER and Kano methods to identify service and product attributes affecting customer satisfaction and assist in determining effective improvement priorities. A quantitative research method was used to collect data through questionnaires. The CARTER method assesses customer satisfaction dimensions such as compliance, assurance, reliability, tangibles, empathy, and responsiveness, while the Kano method classifies service and product attributes into must-be, one-dimensional, and attractive categories. The results show that integrating these two methods allows for effective categorization of attributes, enabling the company to focus on improving product and service quality. Fulfilling basic needs is crucial to avoid dissatisfaction, while performance and attractive needs contribute to higher customer satisfaction. The empathy and responsiveness aspects of service also significantly influence positive customer perceptions. Through the comprehensive and practical framework resulting from the integration of the CARTER and Kano methods, companies can enhance customer satisfaction sustainably while maintaining competitiveness in the wood pellet market

Abstract

Casting flaws are common in the high-temperature steel casting process, particularly surface flaws and rough surfaces. One option to avoid these surface defects is to use sand with a higher melting point, like chromite sand. This study is an extension of the previous research, which found that chromite sand, a ceramic mold material, frequently fractures during the sintering process. Chamotte sand material of 3% and 5% by weight has been applied as a binder to chromite sand to improve this. With an ideal sintering temperature of 1,050°C, two ceramic sintering processes, the Shaw and the Unicast processes—have been used. To determine the chromite-chamotte sand mixture's potential as a ceramic mold material, tests for cold crushing strength (CCS), modulus of rupture (MoR), permeability, and refractory were conducted. The mixture with 3% wt chamotte sand with the Shaw sintering technique provided the highest results and was appropriate for ceramic mold.

Abstract

This research analyzes the impact of marketing innovation on the economic sustainability of urban farming in Malang City. Urban farming has become an innovative solution in addressing issues of food security, the utilization of limited land, and the economic empowerment of urban communities. Using a quantitative approach, this research involved 86 urban farming practitioners selected through purposive sampling. The independent variables studied include product innovation, price innovation, and distribution innovation, while the dependent variable is the economic sustainability of urban farming. Data analysis using multiple linear regression shows that the three independent variables partially and simultaneously have a positive and significant effect on the economic sustainability of urban farming. Product innovation is the most dominant factor with a regression coefficient of 0.419 and a beta value of 0.517, followed by price innovation (coefficient 0.421, beta 0.307) and distribution innovation (coefficient 0.272, beta 0.211). The regression model has a coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.713, indicating that 71.3% of the variation in the economic sustainability of urban farming is explained by these three independent variables. These findings indicate the importance of innovative approaches in marketing strategies to support the economic sustainability of urban farming in Malang City.

Abstract

The advancement of cooling technologies aims to enhance indoor comfort, but conventional air conditioners (AC) raise sustainability concerns due to high energy consumption. This study evaluated the performance of an air cooler in classroom E304, characterized by high occupancy and initial temperatures of 28–30°C with 55–57% relative humidity, exceeding comfort limits per SNI 03-6572-2001. After installing a single air cooler, CFD simulations indicated a temperature reduction to 22.50–23.08°C and relative humidity of 54.89–62.34%, within the comfort range. Model validation demonstrated high accuracy, with RMSE below 1°C and MAPE below 3%, confirming the simulation’s reliability for classroom cooling design. The results demonstrate that air coolers provide an effective and energy-efficient solution for tropical classrooms.

Abstract

Gravitational Vortex Water Turbines (GVWTs) represent an emerging solution for low-head micro-hydropower applications, offering environmentally friendly energy conversion with minimal ecological disruption. This study investigates the effects of guide vane (GV) configurations and inclination angles on the hydrodynamic performance of GVWTs using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. Various guide vane configurations—6, 7, and 9 vanes—were analyzed under inclination angles of 15°, 30°, and 45°, and evaluated across rotational speeds of 200, 300, and 400 RPM. The results reveal that both the number of vanes and their inclination angles significantly influence torque generation, tangential velocity distribution, recirculation patterns, and overall turbine efficiency. Higher inclination angles increase tangential velocity, enhancing torque, while excessive vane quantity induces flow blockage, increasing hydraulic losses. The optimal performance was achieved with 6 vanes GV at a 45° inclination, generating a maximum torque of 0.1305 Nm and achieving an efficiency of 60% at 400 RPM. Flow visualization confirmed improved streamline alignment and reduced recirculation for this configuration. These findings provide valuable insights into guide vane optimization for enhancing GVWT performance, supporting the development of efficient micro-hydropower systems for sustainable decentralized energy generation.

Abstract

The increasing plastic waste on the coast of Semayap Village poses a serious threat to the marine ecosystem and coastal community activities. Floating plastic pollutes the sea and disrupts fishing, tourism, and public health. An effective solution is using Seabin technology, as the area lacks a sustainable system to manage plastic waste. Current waste management remains conventional and relies on manual cleanups. This study used a literature review on Seabin technology and lightweight concrete, along with a field survey to assess coastal conditions in Semayap Village. It also involved modeling a suitable lightweight concrete structure to support the device. The results showed that the Seabin, made from lightweight concrete with pumice aggregate, weighs 105.46 kg, with a volume of 0.0628 m³ and density of 1,680 kg/m³, classifying it as lightweight concrete. It is 45.26 kg lighter than regular concrete, enhancing buoyancy and design efficiency with support from four 25-liter jerrycan floats. A 24-hour test at the Semayap coast captured 4.14 kg of surface waste, demonstrating its effectiveness, though performance can still be improved.

Abstract

The city of Surabaya is the capital of East Java Province. As a result, villagers looking for work are turning to the city. This triggered a large migration flow and the need for housing, leading to the emergence of illegal settlements in urban areas. One of them is Dupak Magersari Village, Jepara Village, Bubutan District. To overcome this problem, the government provides decent housing for low-income people (MBR) in the form of rental flats (rusunawa). However, low-cost flats often face issues such as poor maintenance, leaky roofs and pipes, and uncomfortable living environments. Therefore, behavioral architecture approaches are used in the planning and design of rusunawa as an alternative to sustainable and affordable living. This approach considers the relationship between a person's behavior and the surrounding environment. The design is made through macro and micro studies, such as accessibility for all groups, connectivity between buildings, forms that adapt to the concept of village, and flexible shared spaces according to the needs of residents. It is hoped that its implementation can create a safe and comfortable environment to live in, in harmony with the surrounding community and nature.

Abstract

This study evaluates the thermal comfort of Classroom E303 at the Sumatera Institute of Technology, a west-facing room exposed to high solar heat in a tropical climate. Air temperature and relative humidity were measured at 16 points under unoccupied conditions and used as boundary inputs for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations developed with SketchUp and SolidWorks. Model validation using mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) and root mean square error (RMSE) showed good accuracy at 4.41% and 1.06 °C. Baseline analysis indicates that the thermal conditions approach the upper limit of the SNI 03-6572-2001 comfort standard, reflecting a warm indoor environment. A mist-based evaporative cooling scenario reduced temperature by 2.7 °C and increased relative humidity by 16%RH, demonstrating its potential to enhance comfort. The findings confirm that CFD is an effective tool for predicting indoor thermal performance and supporting passive, energy-efficient strategies in tropical educational buildings.
