Abstract

Innovation enables companies to attain consistent organic growth that brings benefits to stakeholders. Designthinking approach in innovation has been emergent to be an alternative to technological development path inorder to generate competitive and successful product or service in the market place. Design driven innovationcombines functional and semantic dimensions of products or services in the marketplace. Previous researchhas recently revealed practices of design driven innovation in various industries. However, little is known tothe extent that companies in Indonesia practicing design driven innovation. A theoretical framework withperspective from dynamic capability theoretical lens and guided by Dubin’s theory building methodology isproposed to explain the constructs and role of design in the process of innovation. Abstract

Abstract. Bollywood or Hindi movie industry is one of the fastest growing sector in the media and entertainment space creating numerous business and employment opportunities. Movies in India are a major source of entertainment for all sects of society. They not only face competition from other movie industries and movies but from other source of entertainment such as adventure sports, amusement parks, theatre and drama, pubs and discothèques. A lot of man power, man hours, creative brains, and money are put in to build a quality feature film. Bollywood is the industry which continuously works towards providing the 7 billion population with something new always. So it is important for the movie and production team to stand out, to grab the due attention of the maximum audience. Movie makers employ various tools and techniques today to market their movies. They leave no stone unturned. They roll out teasers, First look, Theatrical trailer release, Music launch, City tours, Producer’s and director’s interview, Movie premier, Movie release, post release follow up and etc. to pull the viewers to the Cineplex. The audience today which comprises mainly of youth requires photos, videos, meet ups, gossip, debate, collaboration and content creation. These requirements of today’s generation are most fulfilled through digital platforms. However, the traditional media like newspapers, radio, and television are not old school. They reach out to mass audience and play an upper role in effective marketing. This study aims at analysing these tools for their effectiveness. The objectives are fulfilled through a consumer survey. Abstract

This paper discusses the problems and challenges that Indonesia faces in the process of its technology transfer. Matters discussed in this paper are based on the lead writer’s personal observation and experience of the technology transfer taking place in Indonesia’s turbine maintenance and overhaul industry.The first challenge faced is the lack of basic skills on the part of factory workers. The next challenge is the lack of supporting industries. Furthermore, the low level of English proficiency of the workforce has contribution to the technology transfer problems. Final challenges are the low credibility of the government entities that oversee the turbine maintenance industry in Indonesia. The steps undertaken in the technology transfer in the turbine maintenance and overhaul industry in Indonesia is done through several complex stages.Keywords: challenges in the transfer of technology, technology transfer in Indonesia, turbine maintenance and overhaul industry.

Abstract

Nowadays, the pharmaceutical industry has a market tends to be unstable and volatile in meeting customer needs. This is due to the economic crisis that occurred in different parts of the world. The pharmaceutical industry currently uses good manufacturing practices (cGMP) to ensure that products are consistently produced and controlled according to the required standards. Pharmaceutical industry slowly started to move from cGMP to lean manufacturing that focused on reducing operating costs while ensuring compliance. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the usage of lean manufacturing instead of the usage of cGMP to eliminate wastes. To conduct this study, literature review and company visit has been done. This analysis was applied by using value stream mapping (VSM) and 7-wastes methodology to analyze the problems in the OBH (Black Cough Medicine) production line one of the pharmaceutical industry in Bandung, Indonesia. For the improvement, the lean manufacturing approach has been carried out and the future VSM has been developed. Finding reveals that the application of lean manufacturing in the cGMP environment helps the company to eliminate wastes in reducing lead time and cycle time in the manufacturing process. Keywords: pharmaceutical industry, cGMP, lean manufacturing, value stream mapping, 7-wastes.

Abstract

Electronic Customer relationship management performance E-CRM is a comprehensive business and marketing strategy that integrates people, process, technology and all business activities for attracting and retaining customers over the internet and mobile phone to reduce costs and increase profitability by consolidation the principles of customer loyalty. Therefore, the results of E-CRM performance are repeat purchase, word of mouth, retention, cross buying, brand loyalty and customer satisfaction. The keen competitive in the communication and mobile phone service market place and the increasing numbers of mobile phone users all over the world has influence the researchers to investigate ease of use, usability, enjoyment and e- service quality as antecedents of electronic customer relationship management performance in mobile phone services industry. 488 questionnaires have returned and analyzed. Four factors been tested to investigate the relationship with E-CRM performance. The analysis shown that e- service quality, ease of use and usability was positively significant towards E-CRM performance. Enjoyment has failed to predict E-CRM performance. This paper makes a theoretical and methodological contribution and suggestion for the managers in improving their E-CRM performance in mobile phone service industry. Abstract

Insurance industry stands as a service business that plays a significant role in Indonesiaeconomical condition. The development of insurance industry in Indonesia, both of generalinsurance and life insurance, has increased very fast. The general insurance industry itselfdivided into two major players which are local private company and Joint Venture Company.Lately, the use of statistical techniques and financial ratios models to asses financial institutionsuch as insurance company have been used as one of the appropriate combination inpredicting the performance of an industry. This research aims to distinguish between JointVenture General Insurance Companies that have a good performance and those who are lessperforming well using Discriminant Analysis. Further, the findings led that DiscriminantAnalysis is able to distinguish Joint Venture General Insurance Companies that have a goodperformance and those who are not performing well. There are also six ratios which are RBC,Technical Reserve to Investment Ratio, Debt Ratio, Return on Equity, Loss Ratio, and ExpenseRatio that stand as the most influential ratios to distinguish the performance of joint venturegeneral insurance companies. In addition, the result suggest business people to be concernedtoward those six ratios, to increase their companies’ performance.Key words: general insurance, financial ratio, discriminant analysis

Abstract

Abstract. Inventory is considered as the most expensive, yet important,to any companies. It representsapproximately 50% of the total investment. Inventory cost has become one of the majorcontributorsto inefficiency, therefore it should be managed effectively. This study aims to propose an alternative inventory model,  by using ABC multi-criteria classification approach to minimize total cost. By combining FANP (Fuzzy Analytical Network Process) and TOPSIS (Technique of Order Preferences by Similarity to the Ideal Solution), the ABC multi-criteria classification approach identified 12 items of 69 inventory items as “outstanding important class” that contributed to 80% total inventory cost. This finding  is then used as the basis to determine the proposed continuous review inventory model.This study found that by using fuzzy trapezoidal cost, the inventory  turnover ratio can be increased, and inventory cost can be decreased by 78% for each item in “class A” inventory.Keywords:ABC multi-criteria classification, FANP-TOPSIS, continuous review inventory model lead-time demand distribution, trapezoidal fuzzy number

Abstract

These days, the environmental perspective on operations is becoming more common. In fact, any effort in improving efficiency in the organization is closely related to sustainability of our environment. The Environmental Management System (EMS) certification such as ISO 14001 has been accepted as the world standard. In addition to these ISO standards, there are other certifications such as Halal certification. There is no research that investigates the relationship between Halal Certification process and its effect on our environment. Hence, our main research question is that is Halal Certification process can be considered as environmental friendly? In this paper, we argue that Halal Certification also contributes towards green initiatives. We used EDC-UUM as our case study. EDC-UUM is actively seeking the Halal certification from Malaysian authority agency or JAKIM. In this study, we assessed the perception of the EDC-UUM staff on the issue of going green. Abstract

Small medium enterprises (SMEs) play a big role for GDP in Indonesia. In 2012, SMEs made contribution 59,08 % for GDP Indonesia. The amount of SMEs in Indonesia is 99,99 % from total company in Indonesia. From that data, we know that SMEs is very big market in Indonesia. However, despite many big contributions that SMEs gave, SMEs also have challenges for themselves. The limitation of capital is one of challenges that SMEs have to face. The limit of capital make SMEs spend their capital wisely. They have to think very carefully how to expand their business. Is it profitable or not. In this paper we want to understand about the phenomenon why SMEs are hard to implement information and system technology. We used observation and secondary data to construct the variables. After that, we use the variables to build the model using system dynamics. And then we simulate it to know the impact implementation of information technology to flow business of SMEs. To propose new alternative technology (cloud computing), we modified the variables in the model and simulated it. We compared the result between own information technology and cloud computing. Abstract

This paper addresses a network problem that described as follows. There are n ports that interact, and p of those will be designated as hubs. All hubs are fully interconnected. Each spoke will be allocated to only one of available hubs. Direct connection between two spokes is allowed only if they are allocated to the same hub. The latter is a distinct characteristic that differs it from pure hub-and-spoke system. In case of pure hub-and-spoke system, direct connection between two spokes is not allowed. The problem is where to locate hub ports and to which hub a spoke should be allocated so that total transportation cost is minimum. In the first model, there are some additional aspects are taken into consideration in order to achieve a better representation of the problem. The first, weekly service should be accomplished. Secondly, various vessel types should be considered. The last, a concept of inter-hub discount factor is introduced. Regarding the last aspect, it represents cost reduction factor at hub ports due to economies of scale. In practice, it is common that the cost rate for inter-hub movement is less than the cost rate for movement between hub and origin/destination. In this first model, inter-hub discount factor is assumed independent with amount of flows on inter-hub links (denoted as flow-independent discount policy). The results indicated that the patterns of enlargement of container ship size, to some degree, are similar with those in Kurokawa study. However, with regard to hub locations, the results have not represented the real practice. In the proposed model, unsatisfactory result on hub locations is addressed. One aspect that could possibly be improved to find better hub locations is inter-hub discount factor. Then inter-hub discount factor is assumed to depend on amount of inter-hub flows (denoted as flow-dependent discount policy). There are two discount functions examined in this paper. Both functions are characterized by non-linearity, so there is no guarantee to find the optimal solution. Moreover, it has generated a great number of variables. Therefore, a heuristic method is required to find near optimal solution with reasonable computation time. For this reason, a genetic algorithm (GA)-based procedure is proposed. The proposed procedure then is applied to the same problem as discussed in the basic model. The results indicated that there is significant improvement on hub locations. Flows are successfully consolidated to several big ports as expected. With regards to spoke allocations, however, spokes are not fairly allocated.Keywords: Hub and Spoke Model; Marine Transportation; Genetic Algorithm
