Abstract

The growing number of motor vehicles on the street will increase the consumption of gasoline. At the national scale, gasoline consumption increased from 62.035.065 kiloliters in 2013 to 70.744.977 kiloliters in 2014. The increasing consumption of gasoline not only drains the  non-renewable fossil energy but also affects the environment due to gas emission generated by fuel burning. The carbon monoxide (CO) or carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrocarbon (HC), nitrogen oxide (Nox), particulate matter (PM), and sulfide (SO2) concentration in a congestion area such as the area around traffic lights is substantially high. This research aims to find the gasoline consumption and emission rate in intersections with traffic lights, and its effect on surrounding environment. The research was done by collecting traffic volume in two locations in Surabaya, at morning rush hours, which started from 6.20 A.M. to 8.20 A.M, then calculated the emission rate and gasoline consumption from traffic data. The data showed that the volume of gasoline consumed in one lane (out of four lanes) at the traffic lights for two-hour duration was 700 liters, and the total substance of PM, NO, SO2 produced were 353 grams, 15.166 grams, and 410 grams. The concentration of NO and SO2 at Dr. Soetomo intersection after one-hour emission was 3059 μg/m3 and 57 μg/m3, while that at Kertajaya intersection was 672 μg/m3 and 12 μg/m3, respectively. These pollutants were away above the tolerable limit to human health as suggested by WHO, which should not exceed 50 μg/m3 for PM, 40 μg/m3 for NO3 for NO, and 20 μg/m3 for SO2.

Abstract

Coastal area is a transition area between sea and land. Coastal area development is influenced by the pressures of human activities occupying both areas. The condition is illustrated in Kuwaru Beach, Bantul District. Kuwaru Beach has a unique nature formed by pine tree lines and cheap culinary stalls around. However, the human behavior might have endangered its preservation due to illegal logging. The aim of this study was to examine the behavior of coastal communities associated with the environmental damage in KuwaruBeach and its impact on social and economic livelihood. A mixed method was applied by using sequential explanatory design. Selection of the sample was completed by purposive sampling on government and fishermen groups. The results showed that the behavior of the coastal communities has to lead to the environmental degradation. This research also found that the people's behavior is really influenced by the low education level and low awareness of the coastal region of Kuwaru Beach. The local government should work together with the local communities to conserve Kuwaru Beach from the man made environmental damage.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the priority sectors in MEBIDANGRO districts and their regional hierarchy and interactions. It used a quantitative descriptive method based on secondary data. The priority sectors were analyzed using Location Quotient (LQ), Shift-Share (S-S), and Klassen Typology. For analyzing the regional hierarchy, the research employed scalogram analysis and Marshall centrality index. The regional interactions were determined by gravitation and breaking point analysis methods. The results show that the regions in MEBIDANGRO have two distinctive priority sectors, namely primary sector specialization and sector diversification. The research also found that Percut Sei Tuan District performs at the highest hierarchy with the strongest influence on regional interactions.

Abstract

The development of Ambarawa Ring Road leads to the increase of land conversion from vacant to the built-up area around. The study aims to analyze the spatial use priorities in Ambarawa Ring Road area based on the potentials and limitations by considering the experts’ perceptions. This study was conducted using a quantitative method of Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The findings indicate that the spatial criteria are the main criteria for determining the spatial utilization in Ambarawa Ring Road. The weighted result for each sub-criterion that compares the potentials and limitations also shows that respondents prefer to prioritize the scenario to maintain the area around Ambarawa Ring Road as a vacant area. In addition, the alternative scenario reveals that the area around the Ambarawa Ring Road directed to developing tourism area while considering the environmental balance. Spatial planning plays a significant role in determining the direction of space utilization around Ambarawa Ring Road.

Abstract

Denpasar City as the capital of Bali Province is attractive to regional development. The limited space of Denpasar City directs the development towards the periphery. The extension of physical urban form will be a significant factor of suburban developments. The study aims to examine the type of urban sprawl development in the Denpasar suburbs, and their relation to the existence of agriculture. The qualitative research method is used to analyze the type of urban sprawl with the following indicators of typical land uses covering rice fields, forest park, open land, and settlements. Remote sensing analysis of these four indicators applies GIS model drawn from three time-series data of 2005, 2010 and 2015. Spatial approaches are applied to examine the patterns and structures of urban sprawl types. The results find two main types of urban sprawl development in the city suburbs, that is, leapfrog type which is mostly scattered in the north, and the ribbon type mainly centered in the eastern part of Denpasar City. Both types of urban sprawl play a crucial role in decreasing the amount of agricultural land, especially rice fields, in the suburbs of Denpasar.

Abstract

Batik Pekalongan potentially has a unique characteristic developed by each entrepreneur. The relationships between entrepreneurs in order to stimulate the innovative development of batik should be examined for future development. This study aims to determine how the relationships between and information flow across the actors involved in cooperation networks to support batik cluster development in Pekalongan. The research conducts survey method with both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The data is obtained from primary and secondary data. This study aims to understand the relationships between the actors involved in the batik cluster through Social Network Analysis (SNA). The results show that the roles of actors are still not optimal and need to be improved. Disperindagkop and UMKM, Bappeda, Ministry of Industry, and FEDEP BPPT of Pekalongan City have the major role in developing batik clusters. Their contributions are measured from techniques of centrality degree, closeness centrality, and betweenness centrality in the network. The source of batik knowledge information source comes from the both the customers and the entrepreneurs of batik. The sources of batik knowledge sharing come from the consumers useful to information exchange and innovation sharing which affect to batik production process. Batik cluster consists of multi-stakeholders carrying out some shortcomings so that it is necessary to integrate the roles of actors and the innovation process and technology as a strategy for the development of innovative clusters.

Abstract

Poverty and poor settlement problems seem inseparable from the urban living space including in Semarang City. One of the Semarang City Government policy innovations to tackle the poverty problems along with urban settlement improvement has been introduced in “GERBANG HEBAT” Program through the formation of kampung tematik (thematic kampong). In line with city development acceleration, thematic kampong needs a comprehensive planning for ensuring its sustainability. Representing a thematic kampong, Hydroponics Kampung in Tanjung Mas Subdistrict is dealing with high poverty level issue. The chosen hydroponics theme has in fact brought forward development complexity in nature against the existing coastal area characteristics. This study aims to examine the implementation of thematic kampong concept as well as the affecting factors towards its ineffectiveness. The research method applies qualitative descriptive data analysis. The results indicate the implementation process of kampong thematic concept in Hydroponics Kampung failed to encourage community empowerment. Hydroponic cultivation to which community welfare improvement sought for has no longer attractive and sustainable. The failure is caused by several factors such as poor kampong improvement planning, poor technical implementation process, the chosen thematic mismatch to the kampong potentials, and the lack of community knowledge and awareness.
