Abstract

In this work, we are interested in finding new catalysts for catecholase, whose principle is based on the oxidation reaction of catechol to o-quinone. We approached the synthesis of the threes tripod ligands based on pyrazole in a condensation reaction and its characterization by IR, 13C NMR, 1H NMR spectroscopy, then we evaluated the catalytic properties of certain complexes formed in situ to catalyze the oxidation reaction of catechols to o-quinones. The aim is to find the right models to reproduce the catalytic activity of the enzyme (catecholase), we used complexes formed in situ by pyrazole derivatives with Copper salts. Among these complexes, the complex L4/Cu(CH3COO)2 showed good catalytic activity of the combination (1ligand/2metal) in MeOH for this reaction, with a speed Vmax equal to 69.38 μmol.L-1.min-1 and a low value of Km equal to 0.019 mol.L-1. We have demonstrated that the nature of concentration, ligand, solvent, and copper salts, influenced strongly the catecholase activity.

Abstract

The rise of wing-rock motion in delta-wing aircraft has an adverse effect on the manoeuvrability of aircraft and it may result in its crash. This study presents a finite-time control design to tackle the dynamic motion due to the Wing-Rock effect in delta-wing aircraft. The control design is developed based on the methodology of Super Twisting Sliding Mode Control (STSMC). The Lyapunov stability analysis has been pursued to ensure asymptotic convergence of errors and to determine the finite time. The design of STSMC leads to the appearance of design parameters, which have a direct impact on the dynamic performance of the controlled system. To avoid the conventional tuning of these parameters and to have an optimal performance of the proposed controller, a modern optimization technique has been proposed based on Wale Optimization Algorithm. A comparison study between optimal and non-optimal finite-time super twisting sliding mode controllers has been established and their effectiveness has been verified via numerical simulation using MATLAB programming format.

Abstract

Wastewater treatment is a process used in several countries, particularly in Algeria. A study on Earth for one month was carried out at the sewage plant of the Sebdou textile complex, Tlemcen, north-west of Algeria. Regular samples gave average values at the outlet such that the water temperature is 22 ° C, the ph 7.43, the biochemical oxygen demand BOD5 is 36.5 mg / l, the chemical oxygen demand COD vary between 100 and 200 mg / l at the exit of the WWTP mg / l and finally suspended solids SS is of the order of 36.2 mg / l. All these values conform with the standards and therefore the treatment plant operates within Algerian standards.

Abstract

This paper proposed a new strategy of sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) technique to control three-phase nine-level switched-capacitor inverter (9LSCI) in grid-connected PV systems. The main advantage of this inverter is high voltage gain, achieved by switching the capacitors in series and parallel to boost up the output voltage using low voltage input. To improve the quality of solar energy for injection into the electrical grid, a rooted tree optimization (RTO) algorithm is used to get optimum values of initial angles of multi carriers SPWM technique, giving the lowest possible values of the total harmonic distortion (THD). The design also can maximize the efficiency of the multi-level inverter by minimizing its size using fewer components and a single DC source and reducing the rate of THD. The higher effectiveness and accuracy of the suggested RTO-SPWM technique was tested and verified in comparison to existing classical SPWM technique from the performance of PV-grid systems that it can effectively reduce the total harmonic distortion to 0.16 %.

Abstract

Trachurus trachurus, is a migratory, semi-pelagic species of the Carangidae family living in schools often associated with mackerel. This species is very common in the Mediterranean, and it is found on all Moroccan coasts. This study aims to determine the length-weight relationship and the condition factor (K) of Trachurus trachurus. Thus, 390 specimens were collected between August 2017 and August 2018 in the central-east region of the Moroccan Mediterranean. The parameters of the length-weight relationship were determined and analyzed by length and sex. It appears that this species has better growth in length than in weight, therefore having a negative or lower allometry. It varies according to sex, length, and season. This result shows that Trachurus trachurus in this study is not overweight in its habitat.

Abstract

This experiment was performed in date palm farms to assess the effectiveness of a newly designed pheromone trap (i.e., funnel trap) in capturing red palm weevil (RPW) adults and to compare it to traditional traps. The number of captured RPWs varied by month, with a total of 3931 adults captured during the experiment. Analysis of variance demonstrated significant differences in the number of captures between the three traps. The funnel traps captured 1627 RPW adults in total, while the buried and burlap bucket traps captured 1079 and 1225 weevils, respectively. The mean (± SE) number of captures/trap/weeks was 2.62 ± 0.11 in funnel traps, which was significantly higher than that of buried bucket traps (1.73 ± 0.06) and burlap bucket traps (1.97 ± 0.07). Both sexes were attracted to traps; however, the number of female weevils captured was significantly higher than that of males with a sex ratio (female/male) of 1.58 ± 0.03. According to the findings, the pheromone-food-bait funnel trap is a promising solution for reducing RPW populations and thus protecting date palm trees from infestations.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the expansion and spatial patterns of shopping and tourism services facilities and evaluate whether the locations are aligned with the spatial plan map of the North Bandung region. The research was conducted by taking inventory of shopping and tourism services facilities in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018. The locations were plotted into maps to calculate each point's spatial pattern for each period using the nearest neighbor analysis method. The 2018 map was overlaid with a spatial plan map to identify whether the existing location aligns with the regional plan. The first results were the expansion and spatial pattern maps of shopping North Bandung area for 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018; that show the broadest expansion of shopping facility in 2018 with a clustered pattern. The second results were expansion, and spatial pattern maps of tourism service facilities in the same period show that since 2014 the expansion started with clustered patterns. The evaluation results show that only convenience stores were located in protected areas, but all tourist service facilities were located in these locations. This finding is essential for local governments in monitoring spatial use.

Abstract

In this study, the utilization of sugarcane bagasse biochar (SCBB) as a solid catalyst was investigated for biodiesel production from palm oil industry waste residue. The catalyst was synthesized by sulfonation of SCBB to attach sulfonate functional group. Several analyses such as Nitrogen Gas Sorption Analysis, acidity, Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectroscopy, and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) were applied to determine the properties of SCBB catalyst. The SCBB catalysts were tested to esterify the palm oil industry waste residue which contains of Free Fatty Acids (FFAs). The SCBB catalyst activity test revealed that the variables including catalyst amount, methanol to PFAD mass ratio, and temperature influenced the FFAs conversion. The highest of FFAs of 86.1% was reached at reaction temperature of 65 °C with the PFAD to methanol mass ratio of 4:1, and catalyst amount of 5 wt.% PFAD. The E-R kinetic model as developed can be described the mechanism of esterification reaction
