EMPIRISMA (P-ISSN: 1829-9563, E-ISSN: 2503-1694) is a peer-reviewed journal affiliated with the Department of Religious Studies, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Social Sciences, State College for Islamic Studies (STAIN) Kediri. It mainly focuses on religious studies under three main categories: religion and theology, religion and contemporary issues, and religion and sacred texts. To reach wider audience and readership, articles in this journal are using two main languages: Indonesian and English. All the submitted articles are blindly peer-reviewed and carefully edited according to academic standards. This journal is published biannually in January and July.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to find out the inter-religious dialogue among religions (Islam, Catholicism, and Hindu) in Kalibago sub-Village, Kalipang Village, Grogol District – Kediri Regency. By using participant observation and interviews with several leaders (sesepuh) from each religion. This article attempts to answer the question on how the interreligious harmony in the research site is built and maintained. It found out that interreligious harmony has been passed and maintained one generation to another generation where interreligious marriage, local wisdom, and the elders play a very significant role.Keywords: Religious Leaders, Local Wisdom, Interreligious Harmony

Abstract

This paper is the result of scientific research on the socio-religious phenomena of the national village community in the district of Situbondo Wonorejo. The village is interesting to study because it represents a harmonious life between the existing religions. The research attempts to answer the question on how the pattern of interaction between the people of Wonorejo communicates religious and national messages in the public space. To answer this question, Habermas’ theory of communicative action is used examine how religion plays a role in the public space. The research found that first, the life patterns of the people of Wonorejo are based on three strengths, namely dogma or teachings from each religion, the power of sacredness believed by each religion, and the power of religious spirituality as a manifestation of dogma and the sacredness. All the three strengths were born from a dialogue between the beliefs of the local communities and their predecessors and the religious values that they are embracing.Keywords: Ethics, Religion of Nusantara, Social Interaction

Abstract

Tafsir is an attempt to understand the Qur’an from all its aspects according to the human capacity. The products of tafsir certainly plays a significant role in determining how public will understand Islam. Therefore, a Qur’anic interpretation should be built upon a noble goal, which is to provide an ontological view that the Qur’an is a “Book of Raḥmah” encouraging the people to create a tolerant and moderate society. This paper is an attempt to break the chain that led to the emergence of reconstructing radical interpretation of the Qur’an. It will first present a critique on those radical interpretations, and then reconstruct them within the framework of the Qur’an’s ṣāliḥ li kulli zamān wa makān.Keywords: Radikalisasi, Deradikalisasi, ṣāliḥ li kulli zamān wa makān

Abstract

Spiritual tourism though factually is not a new phenomenon, but a perspective in the perspective of sociology of religion gets its place, especially when tourism becomes a global trend of religious consumerism. In addition to Hajj, and rihlah, Umrah which is included in the journey of ziyarah is one of spiritual tourism trend. In practice spiritual tourism also infl uenced and infl uenced by religious discourse, including also understanding of what is called as sunnah. By using the concept of spiritual tourism taken from the perspective of sociology, this paper further utilizes the perspective of the umroh and haj travel bureaus on what is called the sunnah, where the umrah is one of them. The results of the analysis show that research that does not merely depart from popular culture shows the important role of travel agency forming a strategy in attracting pilgrims by not only binding umrah as a recreation / traveling, but also placing it as a worship. Abstract

Pluralism is an appreciation of one’s profound awareness of difference. This realization would lead him to the next level of stability and away from violence. Pluralism is a term that can be applied to people of this nature in Indonesia, given their racial, cultural, and religious diversity. Balun village in the Lamongan District is one of the villages in Indonesia that is conscious of religious pluralism. The village is home to a variety of religious groups. Three religions coexist peacefully in the village, namely Islam, Christianity, and Hinduism. While the word pluralism originated in the west, the Prophet exemplified the concept in many hadiths, especisally concerning religious pluralism that can still be traced (takhrīj) to the facts. Thus, this study would be important to read due to its unique approach, which is based on hadith.Keywords: Pluralism, Balun, Takhrīj

Abstract

Pesantren is the oldest Islamic education in Indonesia and attracts a large number of researches. Given that it has developed and transformed itself into various types, generalization is almost impossible to be made. Pesantren is a unique educational institution and organization. This article attempts to examine the organizational model of the pesantren with a focus on its dictintive character. It argued that pesantren is based on a holistic mode of organizational system, which is ‘barākah’. The ‘barākah’ or ‘ngalap barākah’ is an open system that is what distinguishes pesantren from other educational institutions in general. This article also addresses the question on what kind of organizational format that may be best implemented in pesantren.Keywords: Pesantren, Barākah, Organisasi

Abstract

Formation of priest candidates is a very important element in the Catholic Church. The formandi (seminarians) are formed in a holistic manner to achieve the unity of faith, personal and intellectual. Formation system is prepared from Midle Seminary to High Seminary. However, changing times is inevitable. It also affects the changes in each individual, especially the seminarians. In Indonsia, the seminarians in this era can be included in Generation Y (Gen Y). Gen Y certainly bring problems and challenges in the formation process. This article aims to analyze how the Catholic Church, especially through Decret Optatam Totius, respons to issue of Gen-Y presence in Priest candidates formation. By basing the writing on ethnographic interviews, and analysis of any related text, the author described this in a systematic discussion paper. The first section, the introduction explains Y-Generation issue as a challenge that must be faced. In the second part, explains the form of education the Catholic priest candidates. Finally, elaborate the challenges, expectations, the outhor try to give proposals into the Priest candidates formation process.Key words: Y-Generation, Catholic priest candidate, leadership, responsible.

Abstract

This study uses qualitative research methods with the type of research "grounded research". Data mining through independent interviews is a sharp realization and at the same time presents a way out of theoretical stagnation in the social sciences, producing descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words of people and observable behavior. This approach is directed at the location and individuals in a holistic (whole) inductive manner in Tanon Village, Papar District, Kab. Kediri. The results of this research data indicate that the religious life of the people of Tanon Village, Papar District, Kediri Regency is full of tolerance, lives in harmony, is safe and peaceful. This life is seen in activities such as death, marriage, all people help each other even though their religion is different. Harmony and tolerance can also be seen in Eid, Nyepi and Christmas activities in Tanon village. They visit each other. Several events were held to enliven the holiday, such as an open house at the Village Hall, which was attended by people of different religions. The Takbir Keliling Festival was held by involving committees from Hindu youth, as well as the ogoh-ogoh parade which also involved committees from Muslim youth and Banser, as well as all existing multi-religious elements.

Abstract

From al-Mughirah son of Shu'bah r.a. (Narrated that) he said: There was a solar eclipse on the day of the death of Ibrahim. Then there are those who say the eclipse was due to the death of Ibrahim. Then the Messenger of Allah said: Verily the sun and moon are two of the signs of Allah. The two do not eclipse because of the death or life of a person. When you see it, then pray and pray to God. (Bukhari).In general, the phenomenon of the eclipse is a celestial event casting shadows all other heavenly bodies, which at times when the shadow of the object is to cover the entire disk of the sun, so that the celestial bodies fall of the shadow of other celestial bodies, it can not receive sunlight at all. Kata Kunci: Salat Gerhana, Gerhana Bulan, Gerhana Matahari

Abstract

Ethics is one part that can’t be given a distance from the discipline of philosophy. This happened because Greek philosophy also contributed to the birth of Islamic philosophy. In addition, ethics is also a very vital and substantial part of the discipline. Al-Ghazālī himself is a scholar, a philosopher, and a Sufi who is very intelligent and productive. In this case, the concept of Islamic ethics according to al-Ghazālī towards the opinions of philosophers who lead to disbelief, there are three problems, first, the natural faith. Second, God does not know things that are particular (juziyat), but only knows things that are universal (kulliyāt). Third, physical awakening. However, the ethical concept disputed by al-Ghazālī received a rebuttal from one of the Islamic leaders who were no less great, namely Ibn Rushd.Keywords: Ethics, Islam, al-Ghazālī
