EMPIRISMA (P-ISSN: 1829-9563, E-ISSN: 2503-1694) is a peer-reviewed journal affiliated with the Department of Religious Studies, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Social Sciences, State College for Islamic Studies (STAIN) Kediri. It mainly focuses on religious studies under three main categories: religion and theology, religion and contemporary issues, and religion and sacred texts. To reach wider audience and readership, articles in this journal are using two main languages: Indonesian and English. All the submitted articles are blindly peer-reviewed and carefully edited according to academic standards. This journal is published biannually in January and July.

Abstract

Believers have a long history-based existence where strengthened by religions that came to the archipelago. Perguruan Ilmu Sejati as one of the streams of believers is one of the varieties of wealth that has its own characteristics. Perguruan Ilmu Sejati has the teachings of harmony in society as an indicator of religious moderation. This article seeks to explore and provide interpretations for the typology of believers in Perguruan Ilmu Sejati in religious moderation and models of believers in Perguruan Ilmu Sejati in religious moderation. This research has a qualitative approach and the type is a case study. Data obtained by means of interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out since data collection with three steps namely data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of the study stated that there are three types of believers in the Perguruan Ilmu Sejati namely core members, strict members, and ordinary members. Each has a different character and also a way to apply an attitude of religious moderation. Two models of practicing Perguruan Ilmu Sejati in religious moderation are the flexibility and active role of members of the Perguruan Ilmu Sejati in society. Flexibility is built from communication Intense internal work from members of the Perguruan Ilmu Sejati at the research location. The active role of Perguruan Ilmu Sejati members in social life starts with the example of the chairman for the members. They feels called and wants to contribute positively for the common good in society.

Abstract

This paper will examine the epistemology of Islamic jurisprudence from the perspective of which the dynamics of Islamic thought since the beginning of independence era until the reform era is understood. Through the three aspects of epistemology, i.e. Bayānī, Ta’līlī, and Istiṣlāḥi, the author tries to analyze the different ways of view and the characteristics of thoughts between each group in expressing their Islamic thinking. It found out that the diversity of thoughts which go along with the dynamics of Islamic thinking has also an impact on the construction of strengthening nationality and Indonesia-ness. Abstract

the Qur’anic studies in Indonesia continue to experiencing a significant growth. Lukman Abdul Qohar Sumabrata, Lukman Saksono, and Anharudin offered a symbolic method of interpretation. They seek to interpret the Qur’an with different perspectives by looking at its format and structure, leading to different interpretations of the Qur’an. Lukman Abdul Qahar Sumabrata’s interpretation method attracted attentions from many people and encouraged them to study more closely the format and structure of the Qur’an. Abstract

Paper ini mencoba untuk menguraikan praktik masyarakat adat Kampung Naga dalam melestarikan lingkungan yang berlandaskan pada kearifan lokal disertai keyakinan agama yang melekat pada diri mereka. Metode pengambilan data dalam paper ini adalah participant observation dan studi etnografi s secara mendalam. Dengan menggunakan pandangan dunia (world view) sebagai basis dasar cara pandang pengetahuan, penelitian ini menghasilkan beberapa poin penting. Pertama, bahwa masyarakat adat dengan pengetahuan lokalnya selalu berupaya untuk hidup damai dengan siapapun dan apapun yang ada di lingkungan sekitar mereka. Upaya untuk hidup damai ini bukan sekedar dimaknai sebagai sebuah tugas, namun lebih kepada way of life yang secara fundamental menjadi bagian yang tidak dapat dipisahkan dari kehidupan mereka. Lebih dari itu, kehidupan yang selaras dan damai bersama alam ini, sesungguhnya juga disadari sebagai bentuk pengejawantahan dari nilai-nilai spiritual. Spiritual masyarakat adat Kampung Naga merupakan bentuk kolaborasi cantik antara tuntunan adat dengan ajaran agama Islam. Oleh karena itu, ajaran Islam sebagai agama samawi mampu dihadirkan dalam wajah lokal ala Kampung Naga tanpa menghilangkan esensi dari nilai keislaman itu sendiri Kata kunci: Ekoteologi, Masyarakat Lokal, Lingkungan, Kearifan Lokal

Abstract

Bahasa adalah sistem simbol suara acak yang diproduksi oleh alat bicara manusia dan digunakan oleh masyarakat dalam berkomunikasi, bekerja sama, dan mengidentifikasi berbagai hal. dalam penggunaaanya bahasa lisan merupakan bahasa utama, sedangkan bahasa tulis menempati urutan kedua. Bahasa tulis dalam perkembangannya mengalami perubahan lebih lambat daripada bahasa lisan yang sangat dinamis. Bahasa Arab sendiri termasuk ke dalam kelompok huruf abjad Semitik di mana sebagian besar konsonan tertulis dengan huruf mandiri, sedangkan tanda vokal bersifat opsional. Dengan penyebaran Islam, abjad Arab diadaptasi oleh beberapa negara non-Arab kedalam bahasa mereka sendiri. Abjad yang paling awal diketahui umat manusia adalah tulisan dari Semit Utara, yang berkembang sekitar tahun 1700 SM di Palestina dan Suriah. Abjad Arab, Ibrani, dan Fenisia didasarkan pada model ini. Huruf Arab Utara tersebut yang akhirnyabertahan dalam perkembangan zaman melalui berbagai periode hingga menjadi huruf Arab Al-Quran. Tulisan tersebut berhubungan paling substansial dan langsung dengan tulisan Nabatea, yang berasal dari bahasa Aramaik. Huruf Arab hingga hari ini masih memiliki kemiripan dan persamaan dengan huruf Aramaik karena pada hakikatnya kedua Bahasa ini merupakan Bahasa serumpun. Selanjutnya dengan penyebaran Islam yangmeluas hingga ke Eropa Asia Timur, Bahasa Arab juga akhirnya tersebar di kawasan tersebut memberi pengaruh terhadap banyak bahasa lain di seluruh dunia sepanjang sejarah.Kata Kunci: Islam, Bahasa Arab, Khaá¹­

Abstract

Language, as a tool of communication, attracted serious attention from linguists who formulate theories of language. Noam Chomskys’s generative transformative theory, among others, is believed to have put impacts on the development of linguistics. The theory suggested that language skills are a congenital human potential (innate) rather than a nature product. This article examines the relevance of generative transformative theory with Arabic learning as a foreigh language. It argued that the theory is reasonably though not fully relevant inthis context. Abstract

Contrary to common perspective of sacred place, which usually excludes nature and environment from its discourse, this paper attempts to link nature with sacred place. This paper asserts that human perspective of God does not essentially exclude human’s linkage with environment. Nature is manifestation of God, and human—as part of it—can expressthe manifestation into practical chains of religious worship and rituals. Addressing religious art of TadaoAndo with his Church of Water and RidwanKamilwith his Al-Irsyad Mosque, this paper aims to describe how ecology deals with religious architecture and how ecological standpoint fits toreligious rituals. This paper will also refer to the concept of deep ecology that traces connection to the wholeness, intuition, and affective perception of the sacredness and interconnection of all life. Abstract

The presence of Pancasila in the midst of the diversity of Indonesians is a gift in itself for every individual in this archipelago country. Besides it has a very high, comprehensive and general philosophical value, indirectly, Pancasila is always and is currently dealing with global ideologies, which according to some people are still controversial, such as capitalism, communism and liberalism. Because in this case, we feel greatly benefited by the founding fathers of this nation, where every point of the five precepts, which include divinity, humanity, unity, populism, and social justice, has represented a very heterogeneous and heterogeneous population entity of the State. As if it is an inseparable unity, Pancasila is often combined with multicultural values because of the diversity of its inhabitants, both culturally, in customs, in lifestyle, to belief in their God. So in this case it can be said that multiculturalism is a real form and a portrait of our country, and Pancasila is the device or tool. As a pillar and portrait of the reality of our country, Pancasila and the plurality of its citizens have, are, and will always experience various perspectives of studies, interpretations, and the accompanying polemics, especially in post-reformation. In this simple article, we will explore how the twists and turns of Pancasila in this multicultural nation, especially after the fall of the new order.

Abstract

Tulisan ini mencoba untuk menjelaskan landasan dan prinsip-prinsip perumusan kaidah Ushul Fikih alternatif yang digagas oleh Jaringan Islam Liberal (JIL), sekaligus melihat kritik mereka terhadap kaidah Ushul Fikih lama yang sudah dianggap mapan. Untuk mengurai masalah ini, penulis melakukan studi kepustakaan dengan mengkaji tulisan salah satu aktivis JIL, Moqsith Ghazali, yang berjudul “Merancang (Kaidah) Ushul Fikih Alternatif”. Studi ini menghasilkan kesimpulan bahwa kaidah Ushul Fikih alternatif yang digagas JIL bertujuan untuk membebaskan ahli hukum (baca: mujtahid) dari ketergantungan terhadap teks, merubah kebiasaan lama dari literal ke substansial, dari tekstual ke kontekstual. Sedangkan yang menjadi landasan dalam perumusan kaidah alternatif tersebut adalah maslahah dan maqasyid al-Syari’ah yang secara mendasar terdapat dalam delapan prinsip yang mereka yakini. Delapan prinsip tersebut adalah: keadilan (al-‘Adalah), kemaslahatan (al-Maslahah), kesetaraan (al-Musawah), hikmah-kebijaksanaan (al-Hikmah), cinta kasih (al-Rah}mah), pluralisme (al-Ta’addudiyah), hak asasi manusia (huquq al-Insan), dan kesetaraan jender (al-Musawah al-Jinsiyah).Kata kunci: Jaringan Islam Liberal (JIL), kaidah Ushul Fikih alternatif, maqasyid al-Syari’ah, maslahah.

Abstract

This research purpose to show how ritual communication in cultural social diversity of fi sherman community of Kedungrejo Muncar Banyuwangi going in harmony. As a result, collective ritual of Petik Laut become a media of communication and integration within variety of fi sherman community. The focuses of research are: 1. How reality of ritual of Kedungrejo fi sherman community?, 2. How cultural social diversity in the community be build?, 3. How ritual communication become a media of integration within this multi ethnic cultural community?. This research describes that the ideology is a signifi cant problem for coastal society caused of their character. Coastal communitues, generally known for being violent and open to religious and ideological diversity. Ritual communication as an integration media for cultural social community can be seen in implementation of Petik Laut collective ritual. It shows the coastal Islamic cosmology that communication on ritual erase social cultural border in their community. Keywords: Ritual, Plurality, Communication and Cosmology
