Abstract

The objectives of the research were to find out students’ level ability in using prepositions of place in speaking performance and to find out the difficulties prepositions of place for students in speaking performance. This study used descriptive qualitative method to analyze and describe data. The instrument was oral test. The sample of the study was purposive sampling of second semester students of English Study Program of Timor University. The total students were 25 participants. The result showed that from the twenty-five students who did the speaking test, 23 students passed the test, 2 did not pass the test. The higher score was 100, lowest score was 62. Students’ average score was 83. The students’ level ability is good. It means they were able in using prepositions of place in speaking performance. This due to the score gained. The score reveals that about, of, above, among and for were the difficulties prepositions of place.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) has significant effect on students’ writing explanatory text at SMAN 2 Raha. This research used pre experiment design One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design of class. The population of this research was all eleventh grade students in SMAN 2 Raha who registered on academic years 2019/2020 which were 488 students, while the subject of this research were students at class XI MIA1 which consisted of 40 students, but only 25 students were participated. The research instrument was written test which focus on explanatory text. The researcher collected data by provided pre-test, gave the treatment by applying Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS), and gave the post-test. The data was analyzed by using SPSS 16.0 version. To examine the hypothesis, the researcher used a paired sample t-test. Based on the result finding, writing explanatory text help students’ on developing their Higher Order Thinking Skill. Writing explanatory text acquired students a great deal of content knowledge before beginning the explanation. Students should be writing detailed and explained sequences of event. In addition, students expect to think critically to showed how and why something happen. Therefore, writing explanatory text has significant effect on students’ higher order thinking skill (HOTS).

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether there was a significant effect of the chain story technique in writing a narrative text at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 Barangka. This research used a pre-experimental design that consisted of one class as a treatment class. The population in this research was the tenth grade of MIA, and the sample of this research was students at the class X Mia 2 of SMAN 1 Barangka in academic years 2020/2021. The sample was taken using purposive sampling, and the total number of students was 20. The research instrument was a writing test that focused on narrative text. The researcher collected the data by giving pre-test, giving treatment in the class using chain story technique, and lastly giving the post-test. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and normality tests. For testing the hypothesis, the researcher used paired sample t-test, which was calculated through SPSS 17.0. The result of this research showed that students' mean post-test score was 76.53, which raised 38.33 points from the pre-test (38.20). Additionally, the Sig (2 tailed) was 0.000. It meant that the probability (Sig) value was lower than α (p-value < α or 0.000<0.05). Therefore, the chain story technique significantly affected students' writing achievement at the tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Barangka.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out what characters value can be used as a tool to build students' character and how to form the moral message in the film Ayah Mengapa Aku Berbeda. To reveal these objectives thoroughly and in depth, this study used descriptive qualitative data analysis techniques and the researchers showed the film Ayah MengapaAkuBerbeda which is done with data collection techniques by means of interviews, direct observation to schools and to several junior high school students.From the results of the analysis, it is known that the series of events that occurred was the suffering of a deaf girl who lived her life with passion, patience, hard work and her shortcomings were not an obstacle to achieving her goals and being pious person to her parents. The film Ayah Mengapa Aku Berbeda has many characters that can be constructive and can also be applied to students' lives. And from these results, it can be concluded that the research in the film contains several characters namely religious, tolerance, independence, hard work, curiosity, communicative, disciplined, likes to read, honest, creative, appreciates achievement, social care, is responsible for words, and not dependent on others.

Abstract

This research aimed at finding the types of students' academic cheating found by the English teachers in e-learning at SMKN 6 Kendari and to finding the effort of English teachers to overcome students’ academic cheating in e-learning at SMKN 6 kendari. This research used descriptive qualitative research design and used case study research method. The subject in this research were three English teachers at SMKN 6 kendari. The instruments of this research were the researcher as a human instrument, an interview guide, and documentation. Techniques of data collection in this research were deep interviews and document review. The results of this research show that; types of students’ academic cheating that English teachers found in e-learning were plagiarism, wrong cooperation, and cheating during the exam. The efforts made by the English teacher in overcoming student academic cheating in e-learning were giving warnings to students, giving motivation, limiting the time, and changing the questions.
