The hypothesis testing found that the value of sig ( 2 Tailed ) was 0.00 while the significant alpha value was 0.05. It can be concluded that the value of Sig ( 2 Tailed) was lower than the significance of α value (0.000< 0.05). in other words, (H1) was accepted. It showed that there was a significant effect of using the Mnemonic Method on teaching vocabulary mastery at the seventh-grade students of SMPN 22 Buton Tengah.

The data obtained via Independent Sample T-test presented the p value was.000. Thus, because the p value indicated that Sig. < α (0.05), it showed that H0was rejected and H1was accepted. Moreover, the calculated effect size, r = 0.6, was categorized as large. Therefore, it could be concluded that Cornell note taking method had worked well and carried a large effect on improving students’ grammar learning at class XI IPS 3 of MAN 1 Kendari.

The population of this study was all students of SMA Negeri 1 Kontukowuna with the total of the students were 193 students, while the subject of this research was the second grade science program (XI IPA1 class) which consists of 23 students. The data of this research were collected by giving pre-test and post-test to students in the form of oral test related to the topic of report text. The data were analyzed by using SPSS 16.0 version (descriptive analysis and inferential statistics). As for testing the hypothesis, the researcher used t-test (paired sample t-test) which was calculated through SPSS 16,0. The result showed that there was a significant effect of time token technique towards students’ speaking skill at the second year students of SMA Negeri 1 Kontukowuna in terms of accuracy and fluency. It can be seen from the mean score of post-test was 55,22, while the mean score of pre-test was 31,96. In order to prove the hypothesis, the researcher took the conclusion by comparing between the value of Sig (2 tailed) with the significance α value. It showed that the value of Sig (2 tailed) was 0.000 while the significance α value was 0.05. So, it can be concluded that the value of Sig (2 tailed) was lower than the significance α value (0.000 < 0.05). In other words, (H1) was accepted. Besides, the successful improving of students’ speaking skill at the students of XI IPA1 class as the subject of this study did not happen directly without any supporting factors, such as students’ motivation in learning English, students’ intelligence, an interesting topic and a group work activity.

The researcher collected the data by giving pre-test in both of the classes, giving treatment in experimental by giving probing prompting and non-probing prompting in control class, and giving post-test in both of the classes. In analyzing the data were used SPSS 16.0 version. To examine the hypothesis the researcher used an independent sample t-test. Based on the result, it showed that students’ mean score of post-test in experimental class is 64.35. It is raised 9.83 point from its pre-test (54.52). While students’ mean score of post-test in control class is 56.82. It is only raised 4.97 point from its pre-test (51.85). Besides, the value of degree of freedom (df)= 42, t=4.574, and sig (2 tailed)=0.000. It means that the probability (sig) value is lower than α ( p value < α or 0.000 < 0.05). Therefore, probingprompting  had a significant effect on students’ writing achievement at tenth grade of MAN 1 Bombana.
