Abstract

The growth rate of online game players in Indonesia is 33% average per year on 2010 and 35% on 2013. Majority of game players are not able to control game play activities and only waste time. On the other hand there is a group of online game players who are capable of achieving and succeeding in the online gaming world especially in playing Point Blank. This research use qualitative analysis with descriptive approach to investigate the professional online game player on Team Fun Group that consist of 6 player with different ability in Point Blank. This research show that the meaning on Point Blank give a chance for the playerto become professional gamers as long asthe players able to determine their goals and dreams in playing online games. Professional game playeralso must join a solid team to clear goal in play.

Abstract

Context of this study derived from communication studies, emphasizes on the perspective of a cultural shift as a result of the cyberspace phenomenon as an impact of the current-computing technology, and the changing patterns of information transmission and communication. Researchers conducted indepth interviews, towards the members of a bloggers community, such as 'Komunitas Blogger Jogja' (bloggerjogja.org), and 'Loenpia Dot Net' (loenpia.net/blog) which is a bloggers community based in Semarang.This research use qualitative analysis with descriptive approach.As results, group dynamics that are developed by each community, corresponds with the community character and nature, to maintain the self-existence. Member of bloggers community maintain the existence of his/her bloggers community, conducted by interacting on a regular basis amongst community members, as well as build awareness for the netizens by upload various information on his/her personal blog, linked with community web page.

Abstract

The diagnose HIV/AIDS in Melayu community is often experience social discrimination and stigma. This situation could lead to mental health disorders among people with HIV/AIDS. This study explores the perceived stigma and social discrimination among people with HIV/AIDS, how they adapt with the situation. Using phenomenological approach, in-depth interview was conducted with seven participants, then analyzed using Collaizi approach. The result showed that most of the participants experienced stigma and lead to received social discrimination from community members such as neighbor, colleagues, relatives, close friend, and even the health professionals. Some of them can adapt well, however, most of them felt anger, depressed, and negative coping such as lying and anti-social. It is recommended to increase social awareness of this situation especially for providing support for people with HIV/AIDS, to improve their quality of life especially their mental health status.

Abstract

Warak Ngendhog in Semarang City make it a cultural phenomenon. Some forms of commodification are used in the economic, political and cultural sectors. The purpose of this study is to find out the symptoms of the cultural phenomenon which has transformed into various forms. This research use qualitative analysis with descriptive approach. As for the results of this study, Warak Ngendhog which functions has transformed and changed, can be utilized in the cultural and tourism sectors as one of the cultural icons in the city of Semarang. Warak Ngendhog culture has contributed to the government of Semarang City with the emergence of various forms of its transformation into various forms of art and culture. In addition, this study is expected to give contribution in the field of cultural preservation in Semarang City.

Abstract

This paper s purpose is to understand what criteria constitutes narratives in the vision and mission statements on the corporate website of the Malaysian research universities based on storytelling elements. By looking at the vision and mission statements, through qualitative content analysis to discover what type of storytelling use in the local research university and to examine if it helps to add value and effectively use as corporate strategy practice to better position itself among the top 100 world-class university . The results of this study, provide a preliminary findings of higher education institutions practice of their narratives in order to gain a competitive advantage within education industry. The paper also be valuable and provide an insight on how universities in Malaysia to communicate their narratives and corporate strategy in order to gain a competitive advantage and position to be the world-class university .

Abstract

This study was conducted based on the results of research from several survey institutions which explained that there was an indication of shifting patterns from old media to the new media. The researchers wanted to know the level of satisfaction of the youth in using the new media among the community with the students of Universitas Sebelas Maret, generation 2015 to 2017. In this study, the researchers used the Uses and Gratification approaches. The researchers also use quantitative analysis and the Slovin formula to calculate samples of respondents from each generation. The frequency distribution analysis technique was used to calculate the frequency of data and then procentaged. The result of this study is that there is a high level of satisfaction where the majority of the respondents feel that they get the satisfaction they want or look for when watching talk show program through Youtube.

Abstract

This study aims to know how symbolic interaction process happens to the deaf students who study in SD Maranatha 01 public school. Communication built by the deaf students to the teachers and other students who have good hearing will influence the changing of meaning and behavior. That's why the author is interested to analyze the symbolic interaction of the deaf students in public school, how the role of the teachers and other students in dealing with the deaf students to take their action and to adapt themselves in public school. The research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative conducted using observation, and interview techniques. The foundation used in this study is the theory of Symbolic Interactionism of George Herbert Mead. The conclusion of this research is; the behavior and symbolic formation happening to the deaf students of SD Maranatha 01 are influenced by the social process.
