Abstract

Abstract: The existence of ulama and dayah in political dynamics in Aceh has occurred for a long time, simultaneously with the development of Islam in Aceh. Ulama in Aceh has been playing as the main actors behind the successful political indicator in many phases, namely; empire phase, independence phase, new order (orde baru) phase until the phase of reformation. The doctrines played by ulama through religious languages have received great support from people in Aceh. This study employs the qualitative research approach with three main techniques of data collection, namely interview, observation and documentation. The result showed that there has been the participation from ulama and santri dayah in Aceh during 2019 General Election (GE). Such participation was reflected from the full support from ulama by calling up the political machine from santri dayah during 2019 GE, and deciding a political attitude by taking side on one of the candidates by holding a fundamental belief that Islam does not forbid ulama to participate in the political practice. Keywords: ulama, santri, dayah, politics, general election, Aceh

Abstract

Abstract: This study discusses the Aceh Dayah Ulama Association (HUDA), which traditionalist Islamic groups use as an organization that maintains the dominant Islamic ideology by using the dayah network as the basis of the religious movement. By using the theory of religious movement, through participatory observations, in-depth interviews with HUDA administrators and the Acehnese people as well as a study of the literature, this paper ultimately demonstrates the ability of the dayah ulama to use HUDA as networking among the dayah scholars as evidence of a scientific genealogy among the Dayah scholars in Aceh. In addition, HUDA is used by dayah ulama to strengthen the hegemony of traditionalist Islam as a group that has religious authority amid the rise of Wahhabi-Salafi schools in Aceh and as political bargaining with the government to determine the direction of government policy in religious matters. This article only discusses the dayah ulama members of HUDA and their strategies in defending the Ahlusunnah waljamâ‘ah doctrine. Keywords: Ulama, Religious Social Movement, Aswaja, Aceh, Indonesia

Abstract

Abstract: This paper explores the framework of inheritance provisions for biological children and adopted children in three different countries, namely Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia. The reinterpretation of children's inheritance rights in society today demonstrates the increasing response to social context vis a vis religious text. Turkey and Indonesia share an emphasis on social dimension in reinterpreting children's inheritance rights for men and women portions. Saudi Arabia, however, is remained to adopt conservative approach in interpreting the religious texts wherein men’s share twice as much as women. This research is a normative (doctrinal) approach in comparing legal issues on inheritance exercised in three countries. The data are based on literature such as regulation, books, journals, and related articles. This paper argues that socio-cultural conditions, political dynamics and ideological mainstream shape the nature of law in each country.  Keywords: inheritance of biological children, adopted children, turkey, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia

Abstract

Abstract: This study is an ethnographic note about the Mawlid celebrations in Aceh. In contrast to most studies by previous scholars who saw Mawlid as a medium for normative theological discourse, this article aims to narrate the Mawlid phenomenon by focusing on how the Acehnese celebrated Mawlid, how the religious expression was, and how Mawlid became a political medium. This study showed that the Mawlid celebration in Aceh is not just a tradition or an expression of love for the Prophet but a cultural construction inherent to the Acehnese society, religious expression, and political media. Mawlid as a cultural construction is manifested in various forms of unique food dishes, as a religious expression manifested in typical Dhikr and Lectures Mawlid, and as a political medium seen from the invitations of Mawlid, Mawlid Pemda, and Mawlid at home. Keywords: Acehnese; Mawlid Celebration; Culture; Social Identity; Religious Expression; Political Medium.

Abstract

Abstract: Human life is now entirely sophisticated, but at the same time simple, and fast due to digitization. However the development of the digital era unfortunately seem to neglect spiritual and moral values, as well as setting aside social vices. Therefore, this bibliographic study ascertains that Sufism-based moral education, pioneered by KH. Saleh Darat and KH. Nawawi al-Bantani, enumerate a process of purifying the heart from all impurities and fostering oneself with noble character, good behaviour, and deeds. This concept is very significant to the standard of living the modern generation, which has lost many moral, spiritual, and social values. To address this behavioural degeneracy, this concept is suggested as an alternative solution. Therefore, Sufism-based moral education displays a strategic step to address human vices in response to this twenty-first century era. Keywords: Islamic education, moral, Sufism, Saleh Darat, Nawawi al-Bantani
