Abstract

This study aims to analyze the existence and orientation shift of the radical Islamic group movement in the era of democratic decentralization, with the case study of Islamic Reformist Movement in Cianjur, West Java, therewith influencing factors. Based on the qualitative method, the data collected from various sources reveal that there is an orientation shift of radical Islamic group movement in the era of democratic decentralization; from 'Islamism' to 'premanism’. 'Islamism', that usually becomes the main issue, has now shifted to the domination of economic resources. This orientation shift is one of the ways for its survival. Patron-client political model of the New Order regime appears but in different forms; its characteristics and forms are also more fluid. Before and during the beginning of the Reformation Era, the orientation of radical Islamic group movement is more dominated by ideological motive such as the implementation of Islamic sharia, while during the era of democratic decentralization, its movement orientation shifts to economic pragmatism.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the comparative study of the liberation theology perspective. The notion of liberation theology is a form of transformative theology that is concerned with issues of equality and social justice. The relationship amidst religion and politics is reciprocal due to there are conflicts of interest between both entities. The emergence of liberation theology itself arises because of the politicization of religion has become more acute and chronic so it needs to be transformed. The thought of liberation theology is basically grown in the famous case of Latin America with the spirit church of the poor. However, within Islam, it also found a similar essence that Islam also teaches that there egalitarianism, equality, and social justice. The article will elaborate on this comparison of liberation theology.

Abstract

This study is conducted to answer an important question: is there any transcendent unity behind the diversity or plurality of religions and religiosity? This question will be answered through perennial philosophy approach. The study found that, according to perennial philosophers, there is a transcendent unity behind the diversity or plurality of religions and religiosity. This transcendent unity is seen in ‘the common vision’, or what in Islam is called the ‘basic message of religion’, namely ‘submission’ to always fear God and live His presence in everyday life. Further, the perennial philosophers argue that the True God is one; therefore, all religions emerging from the One are in principle the same for they come from the same source. In other words, the diversity of religions and religiosity lies only in the exoteric level, and all religions actually have a transcendent unity in the esoteric level. However, in this case, the perennial philosophers do not mean to unify or equate all religions. In fact, they try to open a way to a spiritual ascent through the reviving of the religious traditions in every religion.

Abstract

Historical study of the Muhammad’s behavior and business ethics before being appointed as messenger is an interesting study, because the conduct and business ethics that Mohammed applied was based on the study of the verses of the Koran. After appointed as messenger (40 years old), the life of prophet Muhammad was more guided by the revelations of the Qur'an. Some principles which the prophet applied are honest, amanah, accurate in weighting, avoid gharar, not hoard goods, not execute al-ghab and tadlis among seller and buyer.

In the aspect of Aqidah, there is no change as new viewpoint appears. Knowledge dimension seemed increasing while others tended to decrease in quality. Spirituality and inner attitude of the society experienced inconvenience vis a vis modern lifestyle which is individualistic and materialistic. The shifting was influenced by the level of religious appreciation, family finance, and community environment factor applying consumptive and hedonistic culture. Negative effect of the building of PLTU on religious attitude was tackled by government figures, society, and religion through recitations and intense religious activities. However, those were not successful on increasing the societies spirituality, making simultaneous, systematic, systemic, and synergic da’wah with education technology approach through society’s literate improvement is needed which in turns is hoped to be followed by the bloom of inner spirituality.
