Abstract

Permasalahan pokok penelitian ini adalah (1) bagaimana penguasaan perkalian dan pembagian dasar peserta didik kelas VIII SMP PMDS Putra Palopo?; (2) bagaimana prestasi belajar matematika peserta didik kelas VIII SMP PMDS Putra Palopo?; (3) apakah penguasaan perkalian dan pembagian dasar mempunyai hubungan yang signifikan terhadap prestasi belajar matematika peserta didik kelas VIII SMP PMDS Putra Palopo?. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian ex-post facto. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas VIII PMDS Putra Palopo tahun pelajaran 2013/2014 sebanyak 32 orang. Sampel yang digunakan adalah sampel jenuh. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa tes uraian dan nilai rapor kelas VII semester II. Teknik analisis data yang dilakukan yaitu analisis statistik deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil analisis statistik deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa penguasaan perkalian dan pembagian dasar peserta didik berada pada kategori baik dengan nilai rata-rata 70,56 dengan varians 104,835 serta standar deviasi 10,239 dan rentang skor 45. Sedangkan prestasi peserta didik berada dalam kategori baik dengan nilai rata-rata 74,06 dengan varians 81,351 dan rentang skor 45. Hasil statistik inferensial menunjukkan bahwa thitung > ttabel  sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara penguasaan perkalian dan pembagian dasar peserta didik dengan prestasi belajar matematika siswa.

Abstract

Mathematical representation is an idea interpretation form of solving mathematical problems. The process of mathematical representation is essential to pay attention to, especially in carrying out transformations between forms of representation, because it impacts the final solution obtained. This study describes the flow of students' thinking in carrying out the transformation process from visual to symbolic representation. This descriptive research was carried out with a qualitative approach. This research phase includes preparing representation tests and interview guidelines, giving tests to 48 students, conducting interviews with selected students based on the accuracy of the mathematical representations produced, and evaluation. The evaluation is carried out by reducing the results of the incorrect representation test, presenting visual and symbolic representation data and the transformation process, and concluding the transformation process. The result of the transformation process from visual to symbolic representation in solving the problem of the area under the curve is carried out with a flow of thought, namely translating the shape of the polygon area into a collection of rectangles, determining the width and length of the partition of the polygon area, and determining the area of the polygon area as a collection of rectangles. In determining the area as a collection of rectangles, there are two different processes, making a mathematical model in the form of sigma notation and addition. This study provides insight into the flow of thinking in changing between forms of mathematical representation in the hope that it can anticipate errors in solving the broad problem under the curve.

Abstract

The sudden change caused by the global pandemics of COVID-19 leads to the classroom transformation from classical face-to-face meetings into virtual. The development of technology enables classroom variation by providing various applications that can be employed to facilitate learning activities. Nonetheless, not all situations suitable to use advanced technology during distance learning. Some students are living in remote areas with limited internet connection. This study aims to offer an alternative if most of the students were having difficulties with the internet and minimum devices to download heavy applications. The alternative is by using a chat group with an emphasis on the students’ interaction during the lesson. This descriptive study was conducted at a university in Mataram, Indonesia. The subject was 17 students in the Mathematics Education Study Program who follow the course of Abstract Algebra. The data were gathered from students’ observation during the lessons and students’ written work in the middle semester test. The data were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method. From the analysis, it was found that the students’ activity during distance learning was 83.5%. Furthermore, 88.23% of students achieved the minimum score for the middle semester test (more than 56). The study showed that mathematics teaching and learning could be done with a secure and straightforward access application to gain good results.

Abstract

Indonesia has a diversity of cultures that describes its local wisdom. Culture in certain groups of people or tribes accompanied by mathematical activities was known as ethnomathematics. Ethnomathematics was not realized by the local community because it did not equip with definitions, theorems, or formulas. Therefore, the discussion of ethnomathematics becomes very interesting because it will enrich the treasures of science and also at the same time, preserve culture. One of the cultures introduced in this study is the culture of the Suku Anak Dalam Society (SAD), Batanghari Regency, Jambi Province. The Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) society is a typical ethnic group in Jambi Province. They are classified as ethnic minorities, namely social groups that have weak strength so that they are unable to influence the social system of the people in their territory. However, the SAD society also has ethnomathematics activities that need to be introduced. This research is qualitative research with an ethnographic approach which was analyzed according to Creswell's steps and used ethnographic methods which aim to produce findings in the form of mathematical activities in the Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) Batanghari Regency, Jambi Province.

Abstract

The aims of this study is to determine the internal consistency or reliability coefficient of the developed mathematics reasoning instruments in Junior High School by using generalizability theory multi facet, px(i:r). The instrument are consisting 5 indicator which each of that are valued by each rater. This research method is three-way analysis of variance of multi facet design on G-Study by which the variance comonents are person, rater, item and the interaction between person and items, and the error. Both of G-Study and D-Study design is nested design. The result shows that the coefficient of G-Study is 0.66898. Hence, the next step is using those coefficient for D-Study analysis which lead the conclusion that mathematics reasoning instrument has satisfied the level of observation on large facet and its coefficient is 0.73834 or 74%. To sum up, raters have to use the indicators of reasoning instrument which consist of 1,2,3,4 and 5 components. The design of P x (I:R) - I Random, R Fixed (P = 30, R = 5 dan I = 4) has been satisfied the minimum criteria of conclusion which has been reach 0.70.

Abstract

The mathematical connection is a crucial ability possessed by vocational high school students in solving problems by their field of expertise. Agriculture is a field of expertise that requires a lot of mathematical connection skills to solve various problems. Increasing the ability of students' mathematical connections can be facilitated by the teacher by constructing mathematical tasks in the agricultural sector. This qualitative research using the case study method describes the construction of mathematical tasks based on agricultural products and the mathematical connection ability of students in solving the task. Mathematical task construction is carried out by integrating agricultural product contexts and mathematical concepts. The mathematical task was used in Grade X Agribusiness Expertise students of Agricultural Product Processing. Data retrieval of students' mathematical connection abilities was carried out through tests, observation results, answer sheets, and interviews that focused on connecting contexts with mathematical concepts, connections between mathematical concepts, and connections to mathematical procedures. The results of the student data analysis showed that the ability of mathematical connections was hampered by the ability of the connection between mathematical concepts. It is necessary to increase student's mathematical connections by constructing mathematical tasks with various mathematical concepts.

Abstract

This research aims to obtain a picture of how students' creative thinking abilities in proposing problems using Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI) approach on the material of number patterns. This research uses descriptive research with the research subject is students of class VIII at SMP Negeri 15 Palembang. The learning process in the class was carried out by the PMRI approach. Data collection techniques used in this study were tests, observations, and interviews. Observations were made to see the indicators that emerge when the learning process was carried out. Tests were conducted to determine students' creative thinking abilities when working on and proposing problems. At the same time, interviews were used to confirm answers to student test results. The results are divided into five levels, namely level 0 to level 4, with different characteristics at each level. In this research, there are four students with very creative abilities, 18 students with creative abilities, two students with less creative abilities, and two students with non-creative abilities. The difference in each level is based on fluency, flexibility, and novelty in posing problems.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the mistakes made by students of Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika in solving the equation of straight line problem. This research was conducted in Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika IKIP-PGRI Pontianak in the odd semester of Academic Year 2017/2018. This research uses a descriptive method with research form is a case study. The subject of his research is the third-semester students who have studied the equation of straight line material. The results of this study indicate that systematic errors are as many as 18 errors or equal to 47.37%, random error that is as much as 3 errors or equal to 7.89%, mistake carelessness as much as 17 mistakes or by 44, 74%.

Abstract

This research is a descriptive research that aims to descrcibe students’ mathematical reasoning ability by metaphorical thinking approach in proportion section at grade VIIIA SMPN 1 Indralaya Utara. Data collection technique uses test and interview methods. The test instrument used is included of three reasoning ability problems. Data analysis technique is done by analysing the result of test. The interview is used for supporting the result of students’ test. The result of this research shows that the mathematical reasoning ability of students at grade VIIIA of SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya Utara is medium with this details: percentage of students who have mathematical reasoning ability with category excellent is ,  have mathematical reasoning ability with category good,  have mathematical reasoning ability with category medium,  have mathematical reasoning ability with category bad, and 0% for mathematical reasoning ability with category very bad. Indicator of mathematical reasoning ability with the highest percentage is presenting written mathematical statement with 91,41% while indicator with the lowest percentage is finding out the pattern or character of mathematical indication for making generalization with 31,25%.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical problem-solving ability of students in solving geometry problem of Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). Subjects were selected by considering the result of the mathematics ability of 53 students in grade X through a preliminary problem. Then, the students was grouped into 3 categories: high-skilled subject, medium-skilled subject, and low-skilled subject. From each categories, the researchers picked one student as a research subject considering their communication skills to make researcher easy to describe the subects’ process in solving the problem. The research was held by give each subject a geometry problem that is adapted from PISA problem, and then the researchers provide an interview for each subject. The results of this study analyzed by a descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that the high-skilled subject abled in understanding the problem, planning, and implementing strategy properly, as well as looking back in the calculation section. For the medium-skilled subject already made mistakes in understanding and planning the problem, so that the subject implemented the wrong strategy, besides the subject corrected to the concept only. The low-skilled subject made mistakes in understanding and planing the problem so that the subject implemented the wrong strategy. In addition, the low-skilled subject did not look back at his work.
