Abstract

The purpose of this research is to produce discovery learning based materials through ethnomathematics approaches on geometry transformation materials (valid, practical, and effective) and according to the needs of students. The type of this research is Research and Development (R D) by using Plomp Model which consists of five stages: prelimenary investigation; realization/construction; test, evaluation and revision; dan implementation. The instruments were used the form of validation questionnaire, student response sheet, observation sheet of teaching materials implementation, and achievement test. Based on the research, the result of the validation of experts with the percentage of 83% (very valid), 84.50% (very practical), and the effectiveness of 85.71% (high). Based on this development research the advantages of teaching materials are material materials related to the ethnomathematics of Batik Lampung pattern on the application of the concept of geometry transformation. The weakness of teaching materials developed is that the material discussion is limited to the type of geometry transformation and its effective test is only based on the KKM. Further product development, teaching materials can cover the entire material of geometry transformation with other Lampung culture ethnomathematics studies and effectiveness tests are thoroughly tested from learning outcomes, activities and learners' abilities.

Abstract

The measure of the center is an essential topic in statistics. Pre-service mathematics teachers must have the ability to select and use measures of center. The inability to use and select appropriate center measures indicates a low understanding of center measures. Meanwhile, research on the ability to use and select the center's appropriate measures is very limited. This study explores the sources of error for pre-service mathematics teachers in using and selecting the appropriate measures of center. This study involved 177 pre-service mathematics teachers. This research is a qualitative study using the interpretive paradigm. Data were collected using a test containing two problems and clinical interviews. Data were analyzed qualitatively using grouping participant responses based on ways of thinking and ways of understanding to use and select center measures. The results showed that pre-service mathematics teachers could not select an appropriate measure of centers because they were too focused on measures of centers while ignoring the variance. In order to be able to select an appropriate measure of centers because variance must be considered simultaneously. The implication of this study results is the need for a learning approach that introduces concurrent measures of centers with data variance.

Abstract

The students' mathematical understanding is important to master. Mathematical understanding is also one of the goals of each material presented by the teacher, because the teacher is a guide to achieve the expected concept. Although already has the ability of a mathematical language is needed, but the belief in the field of this ability is still not fully reinforced by students. This study aims to examine the comparison of the ability to understand mathematically students who apply Algebrator software-assisted learning and students who use regular learning and examine differences in the ability to improve students' mathematical understanding of Algebrator-assisted learning software and students using ordinary learning. The research method used in this research is quasi experiment with non-equivalent control group design (unequal control group design). The result of hypothesis test shows that there is a difference in the ability of understanding of mathematics significantly between the students with high, medium and low ability level. This is possible by the improvement of mathematical ability of students triggered by Algebrator software-assisted mathematics learning which in the implementation of learning always pay attention to students centered

Abstract

Geometry is an essential subject for students. However, geometry, especially the cone, remains a challenging material for students. Besides, we need the proper media and context for learning mathematics on cone material. This research aims to develop a learning trajectory that utilizes the Megono Gunungan tradition as a context in the learning process using the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI) approach. The research method used is Design Research, which consists of three phases of the study: preliminary design, experimental design, and retrospective study. This study's outcome is designing a learning trajectory on cone material using the Megono Gunungan tradition. This learning trajectory comprises four activities, including observing the interactive video of the Megono Gunungan tradition to discover cone elements, finding the concept surface area of a cone using origami paper, and grasping the cone concept volume with magic seeds, and solving contextual problems related to the cone. Studies have shown that using the Megono Gunungan context could help students improve their understanding of the cone concept. Furthermore, this study hoped could be an inspiration for exploring another local wisdom that can be a context in learning mathematics.

Abstract

Prospective elementary teachers (PET) are required to have sufficient mathematical and didactic knowledge about fractions, but many of them have difficulties explaining various concepts of fractions to students. Given the importance of prospective teachers’ knowledge of fractions, this study aims to investigate further the didactic knowledge of PETs’ didactic knowledge of fractions. Their knowledge is seen from their ability to construct contextual tasks about fractions based on number sense, problem-solving, mathematical literacy, and problem posing. PETs’ didactical knowledge is analyzed based on the anthropological theory of the didactic. This research method is qualitative with an internet-based research approach. The subjects of this study consist of 38 PsETs from a teacher education institution in Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia. The results of this study indicate that PsETs’ didactic knowledge of fractions is inappropriate, especially in the aspect of constructing contextual tasks about the division of fractions by fractions. PsETs tend to present the type of task associated with simple fraction operations and techniques in the form of standard algorithms. This study also indicates that PsETs’ theoretical knowledge is still limited to informal knowledge to support standard algorithms.
