Abstract

This study aims to generate a clear and comprehensive description of the students’ competence in the mathematical modeling courses after the lecturers are based on the design task. The students’ competence that will be measured in this research is the competence in constructing mathematical modeling that has been made. In this paper, we will deeply discuss for the competence in constructing mathematical modeling task and validating it. The method used is descriptive qualitative and the subject of this study were 23 students of the 2017/2018 academic year who took mathematics modeling courses. This research starts from the planning stage, namely the analysis of the study of mathematical modeling material, design and validation of research instruments. Furthermore, the implementation phase is taking observation data, interviews and field notes during lectures based on problem development. The last stage of the research is data analysis. The data collection techniques in this study were in the form of observations, interviews, and field notes. The results of this study were obtained descriptions of student competencies in constructing mathematical modeling problems and found misunderstanding of students in interpreting assumptions and variables in mathematical modeling.

Abstract

The research is purposed to generate a  learning trajectory that supports students to understand the concepts of exponential through the context vegetative propagation in animals. The Design Research was chosen as the exact method to achive the objective. Hypotetical learning trajectory in the design research played an important role as the design and research instrument. Hypotetical learning trajectory was designed as the preliminary design and was examined to 50 students from the ninth graders of YPI Tunas Bangsa Junior high school.  (e.g 6 students from pilot experiment and 44 students from teaching experiment). The result of the learning experiment showed that drawing activity of the process of animal vegetative propagation could motivate the students to see the form of the animal multiplication. While seeing the animal multiplication through modeling (scheme, chart, and diagram), the students had an idea to calculate new animals had been formed, and used multiple numeral to determine the sum of the new animals. From the multiple numeral, an idea to state it in terms of repetitive numeral would bring the students into a definition of exponential. Based on the result above, it's suggested that context containing multiplication form be used, let the students see multiplication, and the students do it mathematically into the basic concept when they are learning exponential.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain an overview of the mathematical creative reasoning abilities of the prospective teacher. The ability of mathematical creative reasoning in this study is the ability of students to justify a statement on the grounds of the truth of a statement that is based on novelty, plausible, and mathematical foundation. This research approach is qualitative using Grounded Theory. The population in this study were all students participating in the Calculus class of the Study Program Mathematics Education at one of the universities in West Java. In a while, the sample of 55 students was selected by a cluster random sampling technique. The results showed that students' mathematical creative reasoning abilities were categorized into three levels of ability based on the quality of the four categories, namely the initial step, the flow of completion, the related concepts, and the mathematical term errors.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of teaching materials, especially on the uncertainty material based on Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) on the mathematical reasoning ability of high school students. This research is a Quasi-experimental research design using Posttest-Only Control Group Design. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 8 Palembang. Where class XI.IPA 6 as an experimental class is taught with teaching materials based on CTL and class XI.IPA 5 as a control class taught by conventional methods. At the end of the meeting the two classes were given tests to measure the ability of mathematical reasoning, then the results were compared with the t test with the condition of normality and homogeneity tested first. The result of t test shows that the significance value 0,00 0,05 based on hypothesis testing criterion H­0 rejected means Ha accepted and it can be concluded that "There is significant influence of teaching materials in the form of Student Activity Sheet (LKS) based on Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) uncertainty material to the mathematical reasoning ability of high school students.

Abstract

This research aims to produce a TIMSS characterized math problems that are valid and reliable. The method of this research is Design Research. The sample of this study were 31 students of SMP Negeri 1 Inderalaya. The procedure of this study through the stages of Preliminary Evaluation and Formative Evaluation. Based on the results obtained 7 of TIMSS characterized with characteristics (1) using real-life contexts, (2) using characteristics of TIMSS, and (3) the type of problem-solving that problem logically and empirically valid  and reliable. Valid logically be fulfilled from the results of the assessment validator, where the validator comment on the terms of the content, construct, and  language. Valid empirically criteria for both internally for items validity and externally for the whole items validity. Items also expressed reliable with a high level of confidence as the test instrument through items with the analysis result reliability coefficient of 0,703.

Abstract

Several Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) research articles published in Indonesia have contributed to PISA research development in Indonesia, with mathematics as one of the PISA domains. However, there is no research to categorize the PISA research article to give future PISA researchers essential information. Therefore, this study aims to organize PISA research in Indonesia in the period 2016-2020. This study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The SLR method identifies, analyzes, evaluates, and categorizes specific topics related to PISA research in Indonesia. The research data comes from 27 articles published in thirteen accredited journals in the Sinta 1 and Sinta 2 category by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia as an achievement for review journals, which have excellent management and publication quality. The findings indicated that nine categories were identified in this study, including the PISA articles dominance, the development of PISA model math problems, PISA research and subjects, the research methods, the content and context, students' abilities, and the level of the questions. Lastly, this research contribution also is intended to guide future PISA researchers in determining PISA research trends and the following PISA research opportunities in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of mathematical connection capability and self efficacy of students who have learned by Cooperative Learning Model Type Rotating Trio Exchange (RTE) compared to students who received conventional mathematics learning. Collection technique is done by doing test result of student learning and self-efficacy questionnaire of student. Data analysis of mathematical connection capability and student self-efficacy data were performed by using Independent-Sample t Test. The result of hypothesis testing shows that: (1) Improvement of mathematical connection ability of students who gain learning with RTE learning model better than mathematical connection ability of students who gain conventional learning; (2) Increased ability of self-efficacy of students who gain learning with RTE learning model better than the ability of self-efficacy of students who obtain conventional learning. Based on self-efficacy questionnaire indicated that students showed positive attitude toward mathematics learning using RTE Type Co-operative Model

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low student learning outcomes in the material triangle and parallelogram caused by a lack of understanding of students about the forms of flat wake triangle and parallelogram so when the teacher gives about the shape Flat figure that is different from that taught teachers, students find it difficult to do. Therefore the use of learning with math GASING (easy, fun, and enjoyable). The purpose of research is to know the size of the average N-gain in the ability of students mathematical understanding once taught using learning math GASING. This research was conducted in SDN RUMPAKSINANG with grade IV samples of 31 people in November 2015. The method used in this research is the type pre-experimental design with the design of one group pretest-posttest. The results showed from this research that there is an increased ability to learn the students' understanding after learning of Mathematics GASING. The increase was seen from the average N-gain of 0.3813 which is included in the medium category.

Abstract

Trigonometry, a discipline in mathematics, is often misunderstood by mathematics learners. To understand Trigonometry, students should start learning from understanding Mathematical concepts. Therefore, this study aims to analyze students' understanding of concepts in the Trigonometry course. This research is a qualitative descriptive study of the first semester students' conceptual understanding of the mathematics education study program at a university in Malang City. The data collected in this study consisted of the subject's work and transcripts of interviews. The instrument used in this study consisted of 6 questions about understanding the concept of trigonometric material. Analysis of the subject's work results is carried out to find out the right or wrong answers. Meanwhile, the interview transcripts were analyzed by coding to determine the factors that support conceptual understanding. The results showed that students with good conceptual understanding could solve trigonometric problems, while students with less understanding of concepts had difficulty solving trigonometric problems. The results of this study also found aspects that influence (encourage and inhibit) students in understanding the concept of trigonometry. Furthermore, this research is expected to contribute to trigonometry subjects' learning based on indicators of conceptual understanding in the Trigonometry course.

Abstract

This study is experimental research that aims to know about the influence Adversity Quotient (AQ) of the achievement students’ mathematical critical thinking ability. The population of this study is the students of Junior High School in Cimahi City, West Java, Indonesia; while the sample is 79 students selected purposively. The instruments of this study are tests and non-tests. They are based on the assessment of good characteristics towards students' mathematical critical thinking abilities, while the non-test instrument is based on the assessment of good characteristics towards AQ. The results show that: (1) AQ gives positive influence to the achievement students’ mathematical critical thinking ability with the influence of 61%, while the rest of it (39%) is influenced by other factors outside AQ; (2) there are differences in achievement in the students’ mathematical critical thinking ability based on AQ level (climber, camper, quitter).
