Abstract

Potentially, production of dried sago starch in Desa Arang Limbung, Sungai Raya, Kubu Raya District can be increased in term of quality and quantity. To achieve these, several problems have to be solved, i.e clean water availability for washing sago starch, washing mechanization to increase production capacity, and drying machine that efficient in operation and investment. Through IbM grant 2017, we have installed water filtration, sago washer, and solar dryer with greenhouse effect concept. Water filtration significantly increase the quality of water for use in washing sago starch and resulted in improved quality of sago starch. Mechanization of sago washing process and implementation of greenhouse effect dryer have increase capacity and efficiency of sago starch production. Generally, the introduced technology has been supported and accepted by stakeholder in Desa Arang Limbung. Further, the technology may support government policy in accelaration of food consumption diversity based on local resources.

Abstract

Theater is not just a performing art that has aesthetic function, as a phrase, art for art, reflects. It also has a connection with the social community outside the art world. In this paper, through the discipline of educational anthropology, I examine the use of theater as a medium for service-learning, a project I conducted in 2015-2016. In this project, students were asked to work together with members of community involved to write a script based on their experiences. This script is expected to reflect their understanding and interpretation on the social and cultural problems of the society where they lived. My analysis shows that theater as a medium for service-learning could give a valuable opportunity for students to foster their social responsibility and awareness. It also helps students understand the social problems of the society, and document their understanding through theatrical process. This results in developing the cultural agency of the students and members of community involved.

Abstract

Law No. 6 of 2014 mandates that village development planning should be implemented in a participatory manner, involving all communities including vulnerable groups (minorities, disabled, women, poor). It is so that the development undertaken by the village really beneficial to all villagers in the village. However, to date, most villages in Indonesia are still unable to implement the mandate. There are villages that carry out elitist development planning, fully undertaken by the village administration without the involvement of the community. There are also villages that have tried to involve the community, through musrenbangdes mechanism, but unfortunately not all community components are invited in the musrenbangdes. The impact of development planning that has not been participatory is that village development can not be felt by all levels of society. Meanwhile, village development can not be said to succeed if there are still some people who have not been able to feel the benefits. As one of the efforts to realize the participatory village development planning, PSPK UGM conducts training on planning, budgeting and evalauasi of village development results in Jomboran Village. The activity involves representatives from all components of the village community (community members, administrators of social organizations, and village government), and through this training it is hoped that in the future village development planning can be implemented in a participatory manner so that the results of the builders can be felt by all citizens.

Abstract

Marine fisheries sector is a source of community livelihood in the coastal area. Hajoran village in Tapanuli Tengah district is a coastal area with great potential in fishery sector, especially marine fishery. Fisherman Hajoran uses a rectangular bamboo arrangement measuring 10m x 10m which is plugged in the middle of the waters to catch fish. Some of the fish are sold in fresh condition while others are salted. The salted fish only sold the body parts while the salted fish head will be chopped into smaller pieces by the artisans. The process of enumeration is done using a machete with a work posture sitting bent, bent knees and bent legs. Crafters complain of pain on the wrist, shoulders, waist, buttocks and knees so difficult to be able to stand up after the enumeration process is complete. Fish replicating craftsmen provide input in the form of SNQ questionnaires to analyze their grievances over the years. The activity takes a long time, the quality of fish count is not uniform, low production capacity and cause pain in the limbs. Community service activity is aimed at increasing the productivity of shrimp fish craftsman. The effort is accompaniment by the ergonomics team, the giving of lecture materials, the training of ergonomic work facility and the improvement of working method so that the active participation of crafters is needed. Utilization of mechanical fish counter is a solution to increase the productivity of fish crackers. The resulting fish yields will have an adjustable subtlety, good quality, short time and ergonomic design. Improvement of work methods performed by the team of devotion causes the crafters to work more comfortable resulting in increased productivity.

Abstract

Metal recycling is an effective way to deal with the abundance of scrap metal such as drink can, scrap iron and others. Metal recycling skill is needed by the community especially in the youth to help reduce the amount of scrap metals in the environment and to develop a new creative and innovative industry, however the community doesn’t have the skills needed and have never gotten the training on metal recycling. Therefore, in the community service acticity of the Materials and Metalurgical Engineering Study Program, ITK, it was given metal recycling skill (aluminum) for the community. The metal recycling skill training was held in Kalimantan Institute of Technology campus, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The training was attended by 15 people from the community. The training was held by conducting presentation, practice, and discussion.
