Background: Due to physical and psychological changes during puberty, most common problem of young people is body image defined as degree of size, shape and general appearance. Wrong perception of body image and dissatisfaction with body image in people can lead to eating disorders and stress. Peace of mind is in fact a mental mechanism that people use it to reduce physical and emotional strains coping with stressful situations. The aim of this study was to determine the type of coping strategy of adolescent girls and its relationship with their eating disorders. Methods: This is study is a cross-sectional study in which 573 female adolescent of Karaj participated. Two-Stage Random Sampling was used in this study. In this study, to assess people who are at risk of eating disorder, the nutritional approach assessment questionnaire of EAT-26 was used, while Strategy Inventory Body Image Coping- BICSI questionnaire was used to determine the type of coping strategy. Results: In this study, the mean age of participants was 16.6 (±1/62) (19- 14 years). In this study, 23.7% of participants had an eating disorder. Mental image of an individual of his body had significant correlation with eating disorder (P= 0.000). Kruskal-Wallis test showed a significant relationship between the type of coping strategy adopted by adolescent girls and eating disorder score of them (P= 0.007). The relationship between coping strategy and body image and having or not having the eating disorder was determined by Chi-square test at the borderline level (P= 0.054). Conclusion: In this study, results showed that there is relationship between coping strategy of adolescent girls and the eating disorder score of adolescent girls. The highest score was assigned to getting involved with body image, followed by avoidance and rational acceptance. Since the use of inappropriate coping strategies is associated with negative results such as eating disorders and depression, it is expected that eating disorders resulting from mental body image to be reduced by management of people in using correct and appropriate coping strategies.

Background: Preterm labor is still become a serious health problem in Obstetric and Perinatology with no sensitive biomarker currently approved. Several studies show that decrease antioxidant activity may play significant role in preterm labor. However, only few studies had been conducted to evaluate blood catalase level in preterm labor and assess its role in preterm labor. Objective: The aim this study was to identify the differences of maternal serum catalase level in preterm labor compared with preterm pregnancy. Methods: An observational analytic cross sectional study was conducted from February to December 2014 using pregnant women with 28-36 weeks’ gestational age. Blood catalase level was evaluated by colorimetric method and the data was analyzed by SPPS for Windows 17.0 program. Results: 12 subjects were enrolled and divided into preterm and control group. No significant differences between mean age, gestational age, and parity between preterm and control group. However, blood catalase level was significantly lower in preterm group compared with control group (81.82 ± 20.38 vs 159.38 ± 35.79; p=0.001). Conclusion: Serum maternal catalase level were significantly lower in preterm labor compared with preterm normal pregnancy.

Background: Birth trauma and its often incorrect inference of iatrogenic causation has led to unfortunate implications for the affected child, the parents, the obstetrician and the midwife due to unwarranted medico-legal attention in our current litigious society. A more discerning evaluation of neonatal nerve palsies following labour and delivery has led to a better understanding of their aetiology with potentially more appropriate outcomes for all parties involved.

Background: Purple sweet potato tuber extract in liquid form, shown to lower blood pressure of hypertensive rats and hypertensive patients. Liquid dosage form, increasingly unstable when stored for long periods, thus it is necessary to find a more stable dosage form. The objective of this research was to prove that dry extract of purple sweet potato tuber has the same effects with liquid extract in hypertensive rats. Method: The is a randomized pre-test and post-test control group design study. Thirty hypertensive model rats were divided into 5 groups (6 animals for each group). Group 1 was treated as a control group. Group 2 to group 5 were treated as treatment groups. Treatment groups were given liquid extract at a dose of 3 ml, dry extract with the dose of 200 mg, dry extract that stored in a certain time with a dose of 200 mg and given a mixture of dry extract with a carrier substance (capsule formula) with a dose of 200 mg, respectively, for 4 weeks. Variables observed were blood pressure, SOD and MDA level of the blood. Results: The results showed that the group given the purple sweet potato tuber extract lowers blood pressure were significantly in liquid extract or dry extract (p <0.01). The group that was treated with capsule formula showed more decrease in blood pressure than dry extract group (p <0.01). The similar results happened on MDA and SOD level in blood. Conclusions: Thus, it can be concluded that dried extract of purple sweet potato tubers has the same effectiveness with liquid extract, both as an antihypertensive and also antioxidant. Capsules formula is more effective than liquid extract and dry extract.

Objective: ACTH4-10Pro8Gly9Pro10 and HMG Co-A reductase inhibitor had a well-known neuroprotective effects. One important process happened in head injury is apoptotic neuronal death. Bcl-2 is one of anti-apoptotic protein inhibits the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis. This study aimed to compare the effect of standard therapy, ACTH4-10Pro8Gly9Pro10, and HMG Co-A reductase inhibitor on serum Bcl-2 levels and the potential effect to a better outcome and reduction of hospital stay. Method: Subjects of severe head injury without any indication for surgery were taken consecutively (n=60) and separated into three groups of; standard treatment only (control group), standard treatment combined with ACTH4-10Pro8Gly9Pro10, and standard treatment combined withInhibitor HMG CoA Reductase. Blood samples were taken on day-1 and day-5 from each subject for measurement of Bcl-2 concentration. Barthel index and MMSE were measured at discharge and hospital length of stay was noted. Results: Bcl-2 serum levels in control group was 1.49±1.01 ng/mL on day one and 1.64±0.61 ng/mL on day five; and 1.72±1.40 ng/mL on day one and 4.02±1.19 ng/mL on day five after treatment with ACTH4-10Pro8Gly9Pro10. In the HMG Co-A reductase inhibitor group, Bcl-2 serum level was 1.55±0.98ng/mL on day one and 2.00±0.90ng/mL on day five. The correlation of outcome (Barthel Index and MMSE) with serum Bcl-2 levels was not significant. We found the length of stay in the ACTH4-10Pro8Gly9Pro10 group was significantly shorter (p<0.05; CI 95%). Conclusion: ACTH4-10Pro8Gly9Pro10 significantly increased serum Bcl-2 concentration in head injury. Although we didn’t find any correlation between serum Bcl-2and outcome (Barthel Index and MMSE), therapy with ACTH4-10Pro8Gly9Pro10 resulted in a significantly shorter hospital length of stay.

Background: Angiogenesis, is one of the neurorepair process which plays an important role after ischemic stroke incident. vascular-endothelial growth factor (VEGF), Angiopoietin-1 (ANG1) and fibroblast growth factor (FGF) are the angiogenic factors involved in the process of angiogenesis. In this study we observed VEGF, ANG1 and FGF concentration to represent the angiogenesis process occurred in ischemic stroke patients with different onset time. Methods: This was a cross sectional study involving 63 ischemic stroke subjects aged 30 – 80 years old from The Central Hospital of the Army (RSPAD) Gatot Subroto Jakarta. Subjects were divided into 3 groups due to stroke onset time.: < than 7 days (Group A: 11 subjects), onset 7 – 30 days (Group B: 26 subjects) and > 30 days (Group C: 26 Subjects). VEGF, FGF and ANG1 serum levels were measured using multiplex method with luminex Magpix instrument. Results: VEGF, ANG1, and FGF were not significantly different between all groups. We did not find any significant correlation in all groups except FGF with ANG1 in group C. VEGF and ANG1 levels found to be highest in group B, and FGF levels in group A. Conclusions: VEGF, FGF and ANG1 increased soon after ischemic injury. FGF immediately increased in first week after onset and then decreased. VEGF and ANG1 levels reach their peak levels between 7-30 days after injury, showed that the optimal process of angiogenesis occurs in this period. There is no significant correlation between VEGF, FGF and ANG1 in all groups but we found a correlation between FGF and ANG1 in subjects with onset > 30 days after injury.

Background: Midgut malrotation is an anomaly of intestinal rotation that occurs during fetal development and usually presents in the neonatal period. It is rare for midgut malrotation to present in adulthood. Method: We present a case of 15 year old girl presenting with acute abdomen of 15 days duration. Clinical evaluation and investigations revealed features of acute small gut obstruction with peritonitis. Patient underwent exploratory laparotomy which revealed Ladd?s band with midgut malrotation with gangrenous and perforated duodeno-jejunal segment. Derotation with release of band with appendicectomy and resection of gangrenous segment with end to end anastomosis and anatomical repositioning of the bowel was performed. Results: Complete resolution of symptoms seen in 4 months follow-up. We report this case for the rarity of the case with an unusual presentation of adult midgut malrotation due to Ladd?s band presenting with gangrene of the affected gut with perforation, which was managed successfully.
