Abstract

Serealia such as rice, wheat, and maize are very important world food demands, and rice was highest on the nutrional protein status with respect to amino acid composition. Rice (Oryza sativa) has been an important primary cereal for generations that supply around 90% of carbohydrate needs in Indonesia, that every effort to be made in acquiring the fullfillment demand. The research was aimed to investigate the tolerance of two rice varieties Towuti and Ciherang grown on fertile and arid soil on different salinity. Healthy and homogenous three weeks old seedlings were grown in a glasshouse on 0, 50mM, 100mM, 200mM, and 300mM of NaCl on plastic pots with two different soil, under a randomized design and five replicated five times. The growth in terms of leaf area and surface electrical potential difference were observed on a weekly basis for four weeks after the plants had been exposed. The result showed that leaf area and the electrical PD of both rice varieties were significantly reduced under fertile and arid soil under 200mM of NaCl and 300mmM of salinity. It is implied that the photosynthetic process was significantly affected by salinity and was concluded that both varieties were sensitive to salinity at 200mM of NaCl. There was possibility that the protein content was involved on the osmotic change on the salinity process, element supplements were needed, but there is a need for less expensive methods. Abstract

Abstract

The aims of the study is to introduce an instrumen to evaluate the optimalization of finance management in a region. Survey approach is used trough filling the data instrument of public financial management (PFM) by 9 finance executive representing each region. The method analysis is based on the percentage accompolishement score of each item evaluated using spider net. The result showed that there are few aspect that are already optimal, those are : region regulation availibility, accounting, debt management and public investation, alng with audit implementation and eksternal control. While for the key aspect, it is already good but it need to be optimized, like cash management, supplying inventory and services, audit implementation and external control, planning and budgeting, along with internal controlling. Manajerial implication from the goverment, especially the finance executive, cash management need to be noticed, Concerned to tax and retribution regulation program availibility; supplying inventory and services has to considered  about the price difference between the amount of total budget and the realization of APBD year before, it must less than 10%.  The internal controlling aspect need to be considered that  BAWASDA must has 50% staff who is expert or has accounting education background.

Abstract

At the moment, plants use as medicine are mostlyland plants, while plants derived from water such asmangroves have not received much attentions. Some of the mangrove plants that can be used asmedicine are Acanthus ilicifolius, Avicennia alba,Avicennia marina, Avicennia offinalis, Bruguieracylindrical, Bruguiera exaristata, Bruguieragymnorrhiza, Ceriops tagal, Hisbiscus tiliaceus,Ipomoea pes-capre, Lumnitzera racemosa, Nypafructicans, Pluchea indica Rhizophora apiculata,Soneratia sp., dan Sonneratia alba. The plants wereutilized as antiasma, antidiuretic, antidiabetic, itchrelieve, etc. Purnobasuki, 2004).One of the mangroves that are often found on theEast Coast of Surabaya, East Java is Soneratia sp ..which is classed as true mangrove flora.Ethnobotanically, the wood and stem are used astraditional medicine as pain reliever. Based onresearch conducted by Mahmiah (2012)studyingphytochemical aspect of Avicennia marina from eastcoast region of Surabaya,it was known that the stemand leaves of the plant contained phenoliccompounds.Taking into account the existence of the waves andextreme weather conditions in the East Coast regionof Surabaya, it was hypothesized that the secondarymetabolite compounds produced by the plantswould be different. Based on that hypothesis it wasnecessary to do a research on Soneratia sp. plantlocated on the East Coast of Surabaya with the aimof exploring the content of secondary metabolitesfrom the stem of the plant. Methods that were used to accomplish that aimwere (1) preliminary test; (2) phytochemicalscreening; (3) GC-MS analysis and (4) antioxidanttest

Abstract

In the nation's development, improving thequality of human beings should be initiated asearly as possible that early on that since I was ababy, one factor that plays an important role inimproving the quality of human beings arebreastfeeding (breast milk). Breastfeeding aspossible is an important activity in themaintenance of children and the preparation offuture generations in the future. It is estimatedthat 80% of mothers who gave birth were able toproduce milk in sufficient quantities for thepurposes of the baby in full without extra foodduring the first six months, women with poornutrition can produce enough milk without anyadditional food during the first three months(Depkes, 2009)Many studies have examined the benefits ofbreastfeeding exclusively in terms of loweringinfant mortality, lower infant morbidity, optimizepartumbuhan baby, helping the development ofchildren's intelligence, and help extend thedistance of the pregnancy for the mother. InIndonesia, the Ministry of Health of the Republicof Indonesia through community nutritionimprovement program has been targetingcoverage of 6 months of exclusive breastfeedingat 80% (Depkes, 2009). However, this figure isvery difficult to achieve even the prevalence ofexclusive breastfeeding trends from year to yearcontinues to decline. According to (WHO, 2002)Five out of ten women (50%) who arebreastfeeding, when the late breast-feeding theirbabies breast milk there will be a dam, so a lot ofthe milk glands swollen that contain milk that hasnot been issued (Sarwono, 2002)Breast swelling is the buildup of breast milk in thebreast caused by breast milk is not excluded tothe maximum , causing stasis breast milk. Stasisso that the mother's milk stored inside the breast(Manuaba , 2008)Occlusion of breast milk can cause breast painand during feeding and can increase bodytemperature. Handling the dam breast milk isdone by conventional treatments is throughmassaging the breast to remove the dam , butmassage is rarely implemented due cause painMadurese communities have a culture in thetreatment of breast engorgement is to provideherb Katu and yeast . Giving herb Katu and yeastbecome mothers suckle choice because it servesto free breast swelling and provide comfort to thebreast when compressing . Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus are examples of Grampositivebacteria that can cause infection.Treatment of infection with antibiotic synthesiscan bring its own problems, namely the resistanceof bacteria to antibiotics. Resistant bacteria is abacterial pathogen that is capable of formingbiofilms on living beings. Traditional medicine canbe another alternative in the treatment ofinfections. Natural compounds that have thepotential as an antibacterial commonly containsteroids, tannins, polyphenols, flavonoids1),alkaloids, saponins2).Some studies related to the use as an antibacterialBintaro explained that the mangrove plant thatbelongs to the family Apocynaceae is grown widelyin the southern coast of East Asia and the IndianOcean has antibacterial activity3).This study was conducted to determine theantibacterial activity and antibiofilm of ethanolicextract from Cerbera odollam flower againstStaphylococcus aureus.

Abstract

Worldwide estimates of people living with HumanImmunodeficiency Virus was approximately 32million in 2007 with thousands of people gettinginfected every day therapy (Obirikorang et.al,2012). Globally, 34 million people were living withhuman immunodeficiency virus (HIV) at the end of2011 (Chen et.al, 2013). Most people living withHIV are from developing countries with less than5% receiving antiretroviral therapy (Obirikoranget.al, 2012).A CD4 count is a laboratory test that measures thenumber of CD4 T lymphocytes (CD4 cells) in asample of blood. In HIV patients, it is the mostimportant laboratory indicator of how well theimmune system is working and the strongestpredictor of HIV progression. Once a person isinfected with HIV, the virus begins to attack anddestroy the CD4 cells of the person’s immunesystem. HIV uses the CD4 cells to multiply andspread throughout the body. This is the HIV lifecycle. The associated immune deficiency in humanimmunodeficiency virus (HIV) patients leading toinfection by opportunistic pathogen is ascribed todepletion of CD4. CD4 count can therefore beregarded as the accurate measurement of therobustness and functionality of the immunecapability to protect the body against generalinfection. CD4 T lymphocyte cell depletion is one ofthe hallmarks of progression of HIV infection and amajor indicator of the stage of the disease in HIVinfected individuals. World Health Organizationrecommended that most treatment initiationdecisions be guided by CD4 measurement andclinical staging.AIDS is the stage of HIV infection that occurs whenthe immune system is badly damaged and it isbecome vulnerable to opportunistic infections. When the number of your CD4 cells falls below 200cells/mm3, these are considered to haveprogressed to AIDS. (In a healthy immune system,CD4 counts are between 500 and 1,600cells/mm3.)The initiation of antiretroviral therapy is based onCD4 counts of less than 350 cells/mm3 according tothe World Health Organization (WHO) and Centrefor Disease Control (CDC). The determination ofCD4 count however in resource-limited localities isdifficult. In April 2002, the World Health Organization(WHO) suggested that total lymphocyte count(TLC) could serve as a surrogate for CD4+cell countbecause TLC is easily obtained from routinecomplete blood cell counts by multiplying thepercentage of lymphocytes by the white-blood-cellcount (Chen et.al, 2013).Total lymphocyte count(TLC) is a derived immunological marker calculatedfrom white blood cell count and relativelymphocyte count. For instance, if a patient has atotal white blood cell count of 10.0 × 10⁹/L andrelative lymphocyte count of 30% obtained fromdifferential leukocyte count, total lymphocytecount of such patient would be 3 × 10⁹/L.The aim of this study was therefore to ascertainexisting relationships between CD4 count and TLCand to further ascertain if TLC could be used as asurrogate markerfor CD4 counts.
