Abstract

The study was done in Denpasar, Bali under greenhouse condition as well as in the field. The objective of the research is to know the effectiveness of dry heat treatment to inactivate TMV which was contaminated chili pepper seeds, and to improves the seeds quality. The seeds which were dry heated under 40ºC for 24 hours and hereinafter 70ºC for 72 hours showed to have no different viability with those of non treated seeds. These indicated that dry heat treatment does not affect to germination of chili pepper seeds. The dry heat treated chili pepper seeds (DHS), non treated ones (NT), and manually TMV-contaminated DHS (DHS+TMV) were planted under field condition. Verification of TMV infection in the 90 days old chili pepper plants by enzyme-linked immunoassay revealed that the rate of TMV infection were 57.89%, 12.5% and 100% for NT, DHS and DHS+TMV. These results indicated that the TMV source was abundance in the field. Infection of TMV in the chili pepper plants given much effect on the plant height, branch number and production. These research results suggest a possibility of using dry heat.

Abstract

The Effect of Banana Extract at The VW Media on Root Induction and Growth of ShootDendrobium Lasianthera J.J.Sm. Orchid has economic potential as a non-oil exportcommodities which can increase foreign exchange. In addition to supporting industry as cutflowers and potted plants, Dendrobium orchid in particular has been widely recognized as atraditional medicine. Orchids can be propagated in vitro using seed. The main problem in thepropagation of orchid through seed culture is difficulty in root formation. In this study, weevaluated the effect of organic compounds of the banana extract at Vacin and Went mediumcontaining peptone 2 gL-1 to induce growth of root and shoot of the Dendrobium lasianthera. The shoot measuring about 0.3-1.0 cm contain of 1-2 leaves obtained from the seedgermination was cultured on VW medium containing 2 gL-1 peptone additives with 50 gL-1,100 gL-1 and 150 gL-1 banana extract, and without banana extract was used as control. After16 weeks of culture, number of roots, number of leaves, root length, leaf length, the shootheight, root and leaf widest diameters were recorded. Data were statistically analyzed usingANOVA and continued by honestly significance difference (HSD). The results showed thatthe extract of banana statistically gave a significant effect on root induction and growth ofshoot D. lasianthera.

Abstract

Developing of Criteria and Classification of Land Degradation Level on Dryland (Case Study: Dryland in Bogor Regency. Optimization of dry land utilization including in Bogor Regency is still an important issue. One of the causes is due to land degradation. At the moment, land degradation inventory is still resulting tentative acreages, since the criterion was different among institutions. This research aims to develop criterion (classes range) and to classify land degradation in dry land on reconaissance scale. It based on variabels affecting level of degradation. Data was collected on surveys for a case study. The data then was analyzed using some techniques, for instances cluster analysis, and discriminant analysis. This research was resulting three criterions (range of classes) for five variables determining level of land degradation, there were type of bed-rock, slope, conservation (P-value), silt percentage, land use/ vegetation, Pavailable, exchange Al, and H. This research also generated three levels of degradation for reconnaissance scale, there were (1) sligtly degraded land (score <16), (2) moderately degraded land (score in between 16-39), and (3) strongly degraded land (score more than 39).

Abstract

Parasitism rate of Anagrus sp. and Oligosita sp. parasitoids to brown planthopper eggs after insecticides application in the rice field. The research wascarried out in Subang District, West Java in the wet season of 2013. The experiment used arandomized block design with 7 insecticide treatments and four replications. The treatmentswere rynaxypyr, fipronil, imidakhloprid, dinotifuran, pimetrozin, and BPMC compared withcontrol. The objective of the research was measuring parasitism rate of parasitoids to brownplant hopper (BPH) eggs after insecticides application. The results showed that rynaxypyr, dinotefuran, and imidacloprid quickly reduced the BPH population only in one day afterapplication (DAA), while fipronil, pimetrozin, and BPMC were rather slow because the BPHdeclined in 10 DAA. All insecticides were give a negative effect to Anagrus sp. and Oligositasp parasitoids, but the performance of those parasitoids back to normal in 10 DAA forAnagrus sp. and in 21 DAA for Oligosita sp. The parasitism rate of all parasitoids were give anegative value in 1-10 DAA. In 21 DAA the parasitism rate of Anagrus sp. increased infipronil, BPMC and dinotefuran treatment, but the parasitism rate of Oligosita sp. were still innegative value under the control treatment.

Abstract

The objectives of this experiment were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of Pantoeaagglomerans formulations to increase antioxidant activities and chlorophyll content of strawberry plants.P. agglomerans was formulated in the forms of gel and powder. Measurement of peroxidase activitycarried out 7 days after application of P. agglomerans formulations on strawberry plants. The mannerin which the Cohen prosedure suggested by Simon and Rose (1970) and has been modified. Totalchlorophyll content (SPAD unit) was determined with a chlorophyll-meter SPAD-502. Some growthparameters were observed such as plant height, number of leaves, and leaf area. Results of this studyshowed that application of P. agglomerans formulations could increase the peroxidase activity. Peroxidaseactivity on treated plants increased by 47.17% to 50.16% in comparison with un-treated plants. Totalchlorophyll content on treated plants increased by 23.81% to 28.22% in comparison with un-treatedplants. These results suggested that application of P. agglomerans formulations could increase the totalchlorophyll content and antioxidant activity of strawberry plants.
