Abstract

Pomelo citrus is a leading commodity in Pangkajene and Kepulauan Regency (Pangkep), yet its production has declined in recent years. The decline in pomelo production and productivity is suspected to be due to an inadequate agribusiness system. This study aims to analyze the agribusiness system in order to enhance the effectiveness of pomelo orchard management. Respondents were selected using purposive sampling, comprising 47 farmers spread across several farmer groups. Interviews were conducted with farmers and buyers, while questionnaires were administered to farmers, collect, and pomelo traders. The analysis included farm business analysis to determine the R/C ratio, marketing margin analysis, and farmer’s share analysis using Microsoft Excel. The results showed that Ma’rang District possesses the most comprehensive subsystems compared to other districts, consisting of input subsystem, production/farming subsystem, agricultural product processing subsystem, marketing subsystem, and support subsystem. The R/C ratio analysis indicates that farming in Ma’rang (1.39), Labakkang (2.47), and Segeri (1.86) remains economically feasible. Five marketing chains were identified, with Marketing Chain 5 (farmer–consumer) being the most efficient, and Marketing Chain 4 (farmer–middleman–trader–consumer) the least profitable. The agribusiness system serves as a guide to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of government efforts in developing and sustaining pomelo productivity as a flagship commodity in Pangkep Regency.

Abstract

The agricultural sector in Indonesia faces serious challenges regarding the low interest and participation of the younger generation. This study aims to conduct a comprehensive systematic literature review to identify the key determinants or factors influencing farming motivation among Indonesian youth. This qualitative research employed a systematic and structured literature review approach by conducting an in-depth search through reputable journal databases. The review findings reveal negative perceptions of farming as a profession, low income and welfare among farmers, and inadequate infrastructure and institutional support are significant barriers to attracting youth interest. Thematic analysis identified 16 key factors motivating Indonesian youth to engage in farming: government support, creativity, family support, technology, social environment, mindset, training, extension services, digital communication, digital education, environmental awareness, formal education, cosmopolitanism, infrastructure availability, adoption and innovation, and community involvement. The policy implications emphasize strengthening technology-based training programs and financial incentives to address these challenges.

Abstract

Sebangau National Park is a conservation area designated by the Indonesian government through the Decree of the Minister of Forestry Number SK.423/Menhut-II/2004. The conversion of the Sebangau area into a conservation area has caused significant changes to the livelihood sources of the people living around the area. This study seeks to examine the socio-economic adjustments of river fishermen within the Sebangau National Park region. Employing qualitative methodologies, the research utilizes data collection techniques that include in-depth interviews and observational methods. Findings indicate that the river fishermen in this area have undergone considerable socio-economic transformations as a result of the establishment of the conservation zone. They must adapt to environmental and economic changes and develop strategies to maintain their livelihoods. This research also found that the role of government and conservation institutions is very important in helping river fishermen adapt to changes in the environment and fishing economy in the Sebangau Katingan National Park Area. The policy implications in the social negotiation space are recognition of community rights, community participation and equality.
