Abstract

Identification of antifeedant active compounds from Soursop seeds (Annona muricata Linn) as natural pesticides against Plutella xylostella has been carried out. 1800 g Soursop seed powder  maceration was applied using methanol and n-hexane resulted in 46.42 g extract of methanol and 94.19 g extract of n-hexane. Viscous extract of methanol was diluted with the mixture of methanol:water (7:3), then evaporated until the entire methanol was removed, and after that it was partitioned with chloroform. The antifeedant activity of viscous extract of n-hexane, chloroform and water was tested which showed that the extract of n-hexane had highest activity compared to the others. Separation of 2 g viscous n-hexane extract with Coloumn Chromatography using Gel Silica 60 and n-hexane:aceton (4:1) as the mobile phase resulted in 5 fractions. The fractions were tested against Plutella xyllostella. The results showed that fraction C had the highest antifeedant activity. The isolate of fraction C was then identified using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) based on the data base (Database\NISTO2.L and Database\wiley7n.1) suggested the active compounds were ethyl hexadecanoate ester and 11-octadecanoic acid.

Abstract

Adsorption kinetics of chromium (Cr) ion on char from banana stem has been studied. The char used in this research as obtained by pyrolisys at 4000C for 0,5 hours. The parameters studied included the surface area, which was determined by spectrophotometer UV-VIS using methylen blue method, equilibrium time, the adsorption isotherm, the adsorption capacity, the influence of pH on adsorption capacity, and the adsorption kinetics.The result showed that the surface area was 3,4559 m2/g. The adsorption capacity of banana stem (Musa paradisiaca) char on Cr6+ metal was 0,8019 mg/g, obtained at 40 minutes equilibrium time with initial concentration of Cr6+ metal (adsorption isotherm) of 75 ppm. At pH 4,00, it was obtained that the maximum adsorption capacity of the adsorbent on Cr6+ metal was 0,9088 mg/g. The adsorption followed a second-order kinetics with a rate constant of 0,0008 minute-1ppm-1

Abstract

Analisis kandungan logam Zn, Fe, dan Cu dalam susu formula dengan metode destruksi kering dan basah telah dilakukan. Konsentrasi logam dalam susu ditentukan dengan metode spektrofotometri serapan atom menggunakan kurva kalibrasi. Persentase perolehan kembali dari metode kurva kalibrasi terhadap ketiga logam menunjukkan hasil yang baik, masing-masing 95,13% untuk Zn; 100,83% untuk Fe dan 99,39% untuk Cu. Konsentrasi logam Zn, Fe, dan Cu dalam susu formula A, B, dan C dengan metode destruksi kering dan basah berturut-turut; sampel A yaitu 79,14 mg/kg; 78,37 mg/kg; 3,40 mg/kg dan 80,98 mg/kg; 78,83 mg/kg; 1,92 mg/kg, sampel B yaitu 58,65 mg/kg; 94,01 mg/kg; 3,87 mg/kg dan 57,73 mg/kg; 89,09 mg/kg; 2,77 mg/kg, serta sampel C yaitu 45,41 mg/kg; 76,16 mg/kg; 2,96 mg/kg dan 38,62 mg/kg; 60,53 mg/kg; 2,92 mg/kg. Kandungan ketiga logam dalam susu formula tersebut masih pada rentang standar kesehatan makanan.

Abstract

This paper discusses the manufacture and characterization of activated carbon from bamboo apus (Gigantochloa apus) with H3PO4 activator. The aims of study were to determine the optimum carbonization temperture and time as well as the amount of phosphoric acid required as the chemical activator. In addition, the activated carbon was also characterized following the Indonesian National Standard (SNI-1995) for activated carbon. Tthe activated carbon functional groups was determined using FTIR spectroscopy. The result showed that the optimum temperature of carbonization was 600oC, the carbonization time was 90 minutes and the phosphoric acid required was 20 gram for 1 gram carbon. Under these conditions, the activated carbon resulted met SNI-1995 with the characteristics as follows: the water content was (1.11±0.83%), the level of volatile substances was (8.13± 0.27%), the total ash amount was (7.33±1.35%), the carbon contents was (83.40±0.27%). and the absorption capacities of iodine and methylen blue were of 1057.75 mg/g, 472.88 mg/g, respectively. FTIR identification indicated the existence of some functional groups, namely aromatik, ketone, and hydroxyl.

Abstract

A research on the Combination of Organic Matter (the ratio of C:N) in the Sludge Treatment of dying waste has been conducted. The sludge was mixed with organic matter wich were dried leaves and dung in various compositions. The compositions (sludge : organic matter) made were 3 : 7, 1 : 1, and 7 : 1.In this research it was found that the first composition contained the highest organic matter (the lowest C : N = 28.05/1) and showed the best effect to the composting process indicated by physical characteristics. The Compost with the lowest ratio C:N (17,71/1) gave the best total N, organic C, available K, and available P contents which were 0.98%; 17.90 %; 22,092.1894 ppm; and 568.2312 ppm respectively. All composts had organic C and total N that meet the SNI 19-7030-2004, and high available P and K contents. These were in agreement to the evaluation of fertility analysis. More over, all compost showed physical caracteristic such as temperature, colour, texture, and odour that are in agreement to those of SNI 19-7030-2004. Unfortunately the pH did not meet the SNI 19-7030-2004.

Abstract

The research with aim to increase potency of natural batu padas of Ladgestone type through activation usedby acid (H2SO4) and basa (NaOH) various concentrations (2.0; 4.0; and 6.0N) to adsorption ability of heavy metalion of Cr(III) in water have been done. Acid and base activated batu padas was characterizated of specific surfacearea with blue methylen method, whereas surface acidity determined by acid-base titration. Whereas, amount ofCr(III) which can of maximum adsorpted every weight of adsorben or adsorption capacity determined by atomicabsorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The result measurement of activated batu padas compared by batu padaswithout activation (control).Result of research indicate that batu padas after activated by NaOH and of H2SO4 yield surface acidity(active sites) and realtive higher specific surface area compared with without activation (control). Maximumability(capacity) adsorption to Cr(III) was just increasing for NaOH activated batu padas. Highest Capacitiesobtained by NaOH activated batu padas at concentration 4.0N was 2.0265 mg/g.

Abstract

The research was conducted to observe diphenylcarbazide immobilization on silica gel from rice husk ash (Si-CPTMS-DPZida) with sol-gel technique. The aim of this research was to modify silica gel from rice husk ash by immobilization with diphenylcarbazide using sol-gel technique. This research included the modification and characterization of silica gel. The characterizations of silica gel were done by using infrared spectrophotometer (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (X-RD). The results showed that the immobilized diphenylcarbazide silica has been formmed which is indicated by the appearance of Si-OH functional group in the peak at wave number 914,26 cm-1, Si-O-Si at 1091,71 cm-1, the stretching vibration of NH group at 3645 cm-1 and proved in 1492 cm-1 which is the bending vibrations of the NH group, CH (aromatic) at  802.39 cm-1, vibrational bending C = C (aromatic) at 1612 cm-1, vibration CN group at 1310 cm-1, and the vibrations of the C = O group in the area of 1685 cm-1. The X-RD data showed that the structure of Si-CPTMS-DPZida is amorphous.

Abstract

The research was conducted to observe of mixture ratio of cellulose from eceng gondok, concentrations of H2O2/Fe2+ (Fenton reagent), and concentrations of polypropylene from plastic garbage wich produced optimum condition to composite production with strong mechanics and biodegradable properties. This research was conducted by determination of optimum condition in composite forming of cellulose-PP. Steps performed within forming of cellulose-PP were (1) purification of plastic garbage to get polypropylene (PP); (2) cellulose extraction of from enceng gondok by alkaline extraction; continued with (3) composite forming of cellulose-PP through reaction of free radical with Fenton reagent as insiator. Determination of optimum conditions for the formation of cellulose-PP composite was conducted by varying some variables influencing the properties of mechanicals and biodegradability of cellulose-PP composite that is concentration ratio between cellulose and PP and concentration of H2O2. Composite of cellulosa-PP to be tested by mechanicals properties (elasticity modulus (MOE), breaking modulus (MOR), and density and also its ability of water absorption test and biodegradability test on dry land and wet land. The result gave optimum ratio of 1:3 and optimum concentration of H2O2 of 0.5%. Analysis of Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) showed that the hardness of EG-PP was higner than with plastic PP and that insertion of cellulose molecule in composite was successful. Its optimum conditionthe EG-PP composite can adsorp 18.73% water and biodegradable properties.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan analisis kandungan formalin pada ikan bandeng di pasar tradisional dan modern di Denpasar. Ikan bandeng (Chanos chanos) diambil pada 4 lokasi yang berbeda dengan 2 lokasi di pasar tradisional dan 2 lokasi di pasar modern. Kandungan formalin dalam sampel dianalisis dengan alat spektrofotometri UV-Vis. Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya kandungan formalin pada ikan bandeng. Konsentrasi formalin pada ikan bandeng sampel A dan B berturut-turut sebesar 15,16 ppm dan 13,44 ppm sedangkan pada sampel C dan D berturut-turut sebesar 21,85 ppm dan 15,71 ppm.

Abstract

Avocado is one of the fruits favored by many people because of the avocado's taste and content. Avocados contain antioxidants and nutrients such as fat which is 9.8 g / 100 g of fruit flesh. But until now, the use of avocados is still focused on the fruit while other parts such as seeds are underutilized. Catechins are flavonoid compounds contained in avocado seeds. Extraction of catechins in avocado seeds was carried out by maceration method, namely immersion using three variations of solvents namely ethyl acetate, 95% ethanol, and acetone for 24 hours. The results of maceration were filtered and then remaserated for 24 hours to obtain more filtrate, then concentrated with an evaporator rotary vaccum to obtain thick extracts of avocado seeds which were then tested using the TLC-Densitometry method. The results obtained were the highest levels of catechins obtained in maceration using ethyl acetate solvents, with levels of 25.55% b / b. Keywords: avocado seeds, catechins, maceration
