Abstract

The problem found in Elementary School Ahmad Yani cluster Kendal was the low learning achievement of IPS subject. This was caused by several aspects such as the less varied learning model, the inability of students to use their own knowledge, and lack of critical thinking in problem solving. Therefore, there is a need to provide innovative model to create more effective teaching and learning process. To answer such problem, this study used Quasi-Experimental research method with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Through this design, the researchers involved all the third grade of Elementary School in Ahmad Yani Cluster Kendal as the population of this study. They were sampled by using cluster sampling. After the samples were obtained, the researchers decided experimental and control groups. They were as many as 28 students of SD 2 Campurejo involved as the experimental group, while 22 students of SD 2 Tampingan as the control group. In addition, the dependent variable of this study was Think Pair Share model, while the independent variable was IPS subject learning achievement with the topic of the history of currency. Their data were collected using observation, documentation and tests. Meanwhile, the hypotheses and effectiveness were examined by using t-test and gain test. The results of the study showed that Think Pair Share model was effective toward IPS subject learning achievement of the third grade students with the topic of the history of currency. Further, the posttest average score of experimental class was higher than control class. Also, the posttest mean of experimental group was 78.6 and the posttest mean of control group was 67.7. Moreover, the calculation of gain index showed that experimental class was on fair category with the score of 0.6180, while the control class achieved the criteria as many as 0.4055. At last, this study suggests that TPS model is better to use in any subjects in order to create innovative teaching and learning.

Abstract

The background of this research is the low of Social Science learning result of student because teachers have not applied the learning model in accordance with the regulation. This research aims to know the excellences of Mind Mapping learning model, know the difference learning result of control class and experiment class, test the effect of Mind Mapping learning model on Social Studies learning result. This research type is quasi experiment with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Population in this research is SD Gugus Mahesa Jenar Ambarawa, Kabupaten Semarang. The sampling technique used is probability sampling with cluster sampling technique, it’s selected SD N Lodoyong 03 as experiment class, and SD N Lodoyong 02 as control class. Mind Mapping learning model as the treatment that given in the experimental class, while the control class used Direct Instruction learning model. Learning result data was analyzed by independent sample t-test. Significance value > 0,05 so that H1 is accepted, and ttable is bigger than tcount (14,152 > 1,672) so there is a average difference learning result between experimental class and control class. In addition, the average pretest of the experimental class is 33, and the control class is 39. While the average posttest of the experimental class is 76, and the control class is 45. Thus, the increased of students' learning result in the experimental class is more than the control class. So, it can be concluded that Mind Mapping learning model is more excellent than Direct Instruction learning model, there are differences in Social Science learning result on experimental class and control class, and mind mapping learning model has an effect on increasing Social Science learning result at 5th grade SD Gugus Mahesa Jenar.

Abstract

Based on the result of research in the form of observation, interviews, and data on learning outcomes conducted in the fourth grade students at Nyi Ageng Serang Cluster Elementary school in Semarang, it was known that the social studies learning outcomes were not optimal because the learning model and media used were also not optimal. Although the teacher had used problem-based learning model, the students still had difficulties to identify problems and the media in the form of A4 print out pictures were not enough to help them. This study aimed to test the effectiveness of problem-based learning model assisted by blog media on the social studies learning outcomes in fourth grade students at Nyi Ageng Serang Cluster Elementary School in Semarang. This research used quantitative approach with the experimental type and nonequivalent control group design. The sample technique used cluster random sampling, with population of 172 students. The data collection used tests, observations and documentation. The hypothesis test result showed that the value of tcount = 4.007, and ttable = 2.009, because tcount ˃ ttable (4.007 ˃ 2.009) which means that the problem based learning model assisted by blog media was effective to increase the social studies learning outcomes of the fourth grade students. The n-gain test result of the experimental group was 0.40 categorized in medium criteria, whereas the n-gain test result of control group was 0.15, categorized in low criteria. The observation of students' activities using observation sheets showed the average score of the activity of experimental class students was 82%, which is better than the control class that only got 64%. The conclusion of this research is that the problem-based learning model assisted by blog media was effectively used in social studies learning in fourth grade students at Nyi Ageng Serang Cluster Elementary School in Semarang.
