Abstract

This paper entitled Women Language Used in Video of Counter strike: Global Offensive Female Player. This study aimed at identifying the language features applied by a woman when she played a game entitled Counter Strike: Global Offensive and find out the language style of the utterances in her conversation. The data source of this study was taken from the conversation used by Counter Strike: Global Offensive female players in the video. The collecting data used documenting method and it begins with listen to the conversation in the video and then made a transcript, afterwards, sorted out and categorized the data into women’s linguistic feature and language style. Thereafter, the data analyzed by using quantitative method The findings of this study showed the utterance produced by the female player include sixteen data of women language features and three out of six styles of women language in this video.

Abstract

The research deals with The Violation of Cooperative Principle in Japanese Variety Show Gyouretsu no Dekkiru Houritsu Soudanjo. This research aims to identify types and function of the violation of cooperative principle in Japanese variety show gyouretsu no dekiru houritsu soudanjo. The theory used are cooperation principle (Grice, 1975) and speech acts theory (Searle, 1979). The data are collected using the method of referring by listening to the variety show and transcribing the data. This research is analyzed with padan pragmatic method.To present the result of data analysis using informal method. Based on the analysis, there are 20 forms of violation of cooperative principle. There are 7 data which violated the maxim of quantity, 4 data which violated the maxim of quality, 5 data which violated the maxim of relevance, 4 data which violated the maxim of manner, and 1 data which violated 2 maxim. There are, violated the maxim of quantity and violated the maxim of relevance. The purposes of violating cooperative principle in variety show gyouretsu no dekiru houritsu soudanjo consist 5 illocutionary speech acts. These purposes are 1) assertive: complaining, informing, lying, and enforcing; 2) directive: consenting, requesting, and ordering; 3) expressive: mocking, arrogant, joking, teasing, thanking, pardoning, deploring, ridiculing, and praising; 5) declarative: deciding, to say an opinion, and naming.

Abstract

The title of this study is Positive Politeness Strategies Used by Characters in an Animation Movie entitled “Finding Dory”. This study is aimed at finding out the types of positive politeness strategies used to extend and respond by the characters to express the utterance in movie script and also what factors that influence the usage of positive politeness strategies in the “Finding Dory” movie. The analysis of this study is concerned with the utterance of positive politeness strategies of the characters. The data of this study were collected through conducting direct observation of the movie script “Finding Dory” produced by Pixar Animation Studios and directed by Andrew Stanton (2016). The collected data then were identified, classified, and analyzed qualitatively. The data derived from the script of the “Finding Dory” movie were collected and then, analyzed the polite expressions of characters used while doing conversation. After that, the selected data were analyzed based on the theory of politeness proposed by Brown and Levinson. Based on the result of the analysis, it was found that when extending and responding the utterance that contains positive politeness strategies, the characters used intensify interest to H (3), in-group identity markers (4), presuppose/raise/assert common ground (7), assert or presuppose S's knowledge of and concern for H's wants (9), offer, promise (10), be optimistic (11), including both S and H in the activity (12), give (or ask for) reasons (sub-strategy 13), assume or assert reciprocity (14). The most prominent factor that influences the characters to extend and respond the positive politeness strategies is the circumstances: sociological variables.

Abstract

This study entitled “Analisis Kohesi Wacana Naratif ‘Mendongeng Lima Menit’ pada Tabloid Tokoh”. The aims of this study are (1) to identify the lexical cohesive device, (2) to identify the grammatical cohesive device, and (3) to identify the cohesiveness degree of a narrative discourse in “Mendongeng Lima Menit” on Tokoh tabloids. The method used in collecting the data in this study is observation method, and then the data were analyzed with descriptive qualitative method, quantitative method, and distributional method. The method used in presenting the data analysis are formal and informal methods. The source of data in this study is taken from the narrative discourse of “Mendongeng Lima Menit” in Tokoh tabloids, which consists of 27 fairytale stories. This study used the theory of cohesion by Halliday & R. Hassan in their book Cohesion in English (1976:4). This study found types of lexical cohesion, grammatical cohesion, and the cohesiveness degree in the narrative discourse “Mendongeng Lima Menit” on the tabloids of Tokoh. The lexical cohesion found were synonym, antonym, repetition, colocation, and equivalency. The grammatical cohesion found were reference, substitution, ellipsis, and conjunction. The cohesiveness degree of the narrative discourse “Mendongeng Lima Menit’ was high, which was 92,7% and they were built by 930 cohesive devices. The grammatical cohesion included the 210 references (22,6%), 44 substitutions (4,7%), 12 ellipsis (1,3%), and 528 conjunctions (56,8%). The lexical cohesion included 6 synonyms (0,64%), 31 antonyms (3,3%), 57 repetitions (6,1%), 36 colocations (3,9%), and 6 equivalencies (0,64%).

Abstract

This research titled “The Language Characteristic of Student at Elementary School Muhammadiyah II Denpasar: Morphology Study”. The purpose of this research is to know the form and forming of word that was mastered by students of elementary school Muhammadiyah II Denpasar and the factors that influence of mastering the language. The process of collecting the data uses seeing method. The process of analysis the data uses apportion, qualitative, and quantitative method. Besides, in process of the result uses informal and formal method. The result of this research was found the form and the forming of word that was already mastered by students of elementary school Muhammadiyah II Denpasar. The form includes lexicon category, lexicon form, and boarding lexicon. In lexicon category found (1) 812 nominal, (2) 553 verbal, (3) 162 adjectives, and (4) 67 numeralias. In lexicon form found (1) 1.180 single words and (2) 1.038 complex words. Besides, the process of forming word found (1) affix includes (a) prefix {ber-}, {meng-}, {di-}, {per-}, {peng-}, {se-}, {ter-}; (b) sufixs {-an}, {-i}, {-kan}, {-nya}; (c) konfixs {ke-…-an}, {ber-…-an}, {per-…-an}, {se-…-nya}, {peng-…-an}; and (d) simulfixs {meng-…-kan}, {di-…-kan}, {memper-…-kan}, {memper-…-i}; (2) reduplication includes morfemis reduplication and fonologis reduplication; (3) composition includes nominal composition and verbal composition; and (4) abbrevation includes abbreviation, piece, acronym, and contraction. The factors that influence the process of mastering the language are internal and external factor. Internal factor includes ages, connection ability, and health. Besides, the external factor includes influent of formal and informal environment of the student.

Abstract

This research focuses on the analysis of shifting in form and meaning of short story entitled Kappa from Japanese into indonesian. The purpose of this research is to know the translation in form and meaning and also the technique used by the translator in the alignment of the form and the meaning of the source in the context of the target. The data in this research are all words and sentences in Kappa short story by Akutagawa Ryunosuke and its translation in Indonesian with the same title translated by Winarta Adisubrata.The data were collected by referring method and technique of record, after that to analyze the data using method of translational pad with glossing technique then continued with formal and informal method in presenting the data. The theory used in this research are Catford shape shift theory (1965), theory of component analysis of meaning of Bell (1993) and technique theory of translation of Molina and Albir (2002). The result of this research shows that there are from 72 data of word class shift there are 24 data shift of verbs, 10 data shift of adjective, 27 data shift of adverb and 11 data shifting of noun and there are 10 data of meaning shift. The most widely used translation technique is literal translation technique.

Abstract

Metaphors are used to create poetic impression in poems or poetry. However, linguist disagree this idea and they believe that metaphors are not used for language style of poems or poetry only, but they believe that people also use them in their daily language. This study is entitled Metaphorical Expression of the Word Anger in the Corpus of Contemporary of American English (COCA). The data source was taken from corpus of contemporary American English (COCA) using keyword of anger in Keyword in the Context (KWIC) as the main data. The theories used in this study were theory proposed by Lakoff & Johnson (1998) to identify the conceptual metaphor, Pragglejaz’s MIP (Metaphor Identification Procedure) and Steen’s five steps to identify the metaphor in the context. The result shown that all conceptual metaphors were found in this study, such as structural metaphor, orientational metaphor, ontological metaphor and personification.

Abstract

Traditional village-based tourism development in the village of Bangli Regency Penglipuran a tourism development conducted by the Village Penglipuran. The problems of this study include (1) the form of traditional village-based tourism development and (2) the impact of tourism development based Indigenous Village. The research objective is (1) determine the form of the traditional village-based tourism development and (2) reveal how far the impact of developing a traditional village-based tourism. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques including observation, interview, literature study and documentation. Data analysis was performed through three simultaneous flow of activities, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The theory used is the theory of community-based tourism and tourism impact theory. Results of this study are as follows. Traditional village-based tourism development in the village Penglipuran include tourist attraction in the village Penglipuran, the shape of the traditional village-based tourism development, and the role of indigenous villages in Penglipuran village tourism development. The impact of the traditional village-based tourism development in the village Penglipuran includes the impact of tourism on the physical environment and the natural, social, cultural, and economic. Conclusions This study is the first, the form of the traditional village-based tourism development in the village Penglipuran managing entity called Rural Tourism Organization business Penglipuran. This institution gives a role to the traditional village as the board of supervisors and the traditional village also has the authority to decide all matters related to the development of tourism. Second, the impact of the traditional village-based tourism development in the village Penglipuran the form of positive and negative impacts on the physical environment and the natural, social, cultural, and economic.

Abstract

The title of this study is Slang Words Used by The Characters in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. This study was conducted to identify the type and to analyze the function of slang words and phrases used by the characters in the movie “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” . The data of this study were collected from “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” movie script. There were sixty-seven slang words or phrases found in the “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” movie script. Documentation method was used to collect the data. This study used the descriptive-qualitative method to analyze the data. There were only eighteen slang words or phrases analyzed based on the theory proposed by Allan and Burridge (2006) about types and functions of slang words. There are five types of slang found in the data. They are fresh and creative which was the most type of slang, imitative, acronym, clipping, and flippant. So, all the types of slang based on the theory were found. For the functions, there were seven functions of slang word found in the data. They are the functions of showing intimacy, addressing, forming intimate atmosphere, expressing impression, revealing anger, humiliating and initiating relax conversation. The function of showing intimacy is the most function in using slang found in the data.

Abstract

This research entitled “Violation of politeness maxim in Nijuushi no Hitomi’s Novel by Sakae Tsuboi”. This research aims to find out the kind speech act and type of violated conversation which got violated in Nijuushi no Hitomi’s Novel by Sakae Tsuboi. The data analyzed using descriptive method. The theories used for analyzing are speech acts (illocutionary acts) theory by Searle (1969) and the politeness principle theory by Leech (1983). Based on the analysis that has been done, there are violation of politeness maxim, such as (1) tact maxim (six data that aims for requesting, commanding, prohibiting, inviting and persuading), (2) generosity maxim (one data that aims for mocking), (3) approbation maxim (eight data that aims for mocking, blaming and naming) (4) agreement maxim (four data that aims for lying, advising, resigning and dismissing) (5) sympathy maxim (two data that aims for commanding and mocking).
