Abstract

Generally, buildings consume around one-third of the world's total energy. Most of the energy in buildings in Indonesia is used by air conditioning systems. One effort to minimize energy waste in the building's air conditioning system is by lowering OTTV (Overall Thermal Transfer Value) to reduce external heat entering the building sheath. The study aims to analyze geometry and WWR (Window to Wall Ratio)’s influence on OTTV and building energy consumption through manual calculation and simulation processes on Autodesk Ecotect Analysis software. This research uses experimental quantitative methods by taking the Bosowa Tower located in Makassar as the research object to serve as a control variable in making alternative building models. The results showed that geometric and WWR variations in buildings were sufficient to affect OTTV values and cooling energy consumption. The smaller the ratio between the length and width of the base and the smaller the percentage of WWR in the building, the smaller the OTTV value and cooling energy consumption of the building. From this study, the most effective combination of geometry and WWR applied to buildings is the combination of 1:1 and WWR 15%.

Abstract

The concept of a house for the Javanese is to make a home or tame, pomahan (at home in the house), the house’s yard. Judging from the concept of a house, it is not just a place to live or a place of activity, but it is related to the psychology of comfort of the owner. Javanese architecture in ancient times was obtained by a petungan (calculation) system in a written document called Primbon, but the mindset of today's society assumes that Primbon is something occult, unscientific, and knowledgeable. If we use our point of view as Javanese people, in the field of Primbon architecture, it contains prohibitions that are indirectly a choice that has consequences for the homeowner. If viewed from the point of view of Psychology, it can be shown that these prohibitions have consequences that can impact the nature, behavior, and so on related to the psyche of the homeowner. This study aims to interpret the meaning of the Primbon Betalsun Adammakna, considered a scientist heresy, that Primbon can be said as a scientific guideline and is related to architecture and psychology. The research method is descriptive qualitative, collecting measurement data from field studies (Javanese architecture) and carrying out the meaning of calculations with the Primbon Betaljemur Adammakna. The research object used in this study is a residential house in Gunung Kidul, D.I. Yogyakarta. The research results prove that Primbon Betaljemur Adammakna is scientific knowledge in building Javanese architecture.

Abstract

Abstract

The Sang Nila Utama museum building is a vernacular architectural form of traditional buildings that have changed from Riau Malay architecture. This shape change certainly affects the thermal performance of the building itself, which in turn will lead to thermal comfort. Comfort is influenced by a) temperature (oC), b) relative humidity (%), c) wind speed (m/s), and d) MRT (mean radiant temperature). This study aims to determine the thermal performance of the building corridor in terms of spatial climatic factors on temperature and humidity. The method used in this study is a quantitative descriptive correlation, measuring variables of temperature and humidity in the museum corridor and interior. The results of research on the temperature variable in 2 (two) days showed a deasedecreasehe the average thermal performance of the microclimate on the porch of 0.2%, which was shown from the + (positive) value, and from the porch to the interior, there was an increase of 1%, which was shown from the value - (negative). From the average value of the temperature variable, the museum is out of a comfortable condition according to SNI T-14-1993-03.

Abstract

Other than technique function and building aesthetic, architecture represents power relation and knowledge in its design. The architect’s knowledge will crystallize into a building as a text, and visitors can read it. This research discusses the relation between power and knowledge, which produces discourse in the design of Ganjuran Temple Church, Yogyakarta. The method that was used is qualitative descriptive and random probability sampling. This research reveals the relationship between power and knowledge owned by architects and explains the discourse. Architect’s ideology is about expanding the gospel wrapped by Mataram culture. The message is delivered in 6 concepts consisting of 13 architectural elements. The mean value results show that visitors know there are messages behind the building, but they do not understand the majority meaning. As locals see the common form, Mataram culture dominates the knowledge. So Mataram culture is the strongest discourse from visitors’ view. On the contrary, as the newest ideology for Javanese society, the Catholic value is the lowest readability because of the implementation of minor elements that is not the visitors’ focus.
