Abstract

The viscosity of cervical mucus is affected by the concentration of estrogen. This study aims to determine the relationship between the viscosity of cervical mucus with the concentration of estrogen in Aceh cattle in the success of mating. This study used four female Aceh cattle, aged 3-7 years and weighing 150-250 kg, had given birth, and had two regular estrus cycles. All aceh cattle were synchronized with PGF2? (dinoprost tromethamine inj., Lutalyse®, Zoetis US) by the two shoot method intramuscularly. Cervical mucus collection was performed by aspiration on the day of estrus. The cervical mucus viscosity measurement is done by looking at the spinnbarkeit value. Estrogen concentration was measured by enzyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA). The data obtained in this study were analyzed using the Pearson correlation test. The results showed that the average viscosity of cervical mucus in Aceh was 11.8±4.6 cm, and the average concentration of estrogen in Aceh cattle during estrus was 106.5±15.8 pg/ml. The correlation between cervical mucus viscosity and estrogen concentration was 0.983. The conclusion of this study is that the higher the concentration of estrogen, the viscosity of cervical mucus will decrease so that the spinnbarkeit value will increase. It is necessary to conduct further studies related to the electrochemical characteristics of cervical and vaginal mucus during estrus including the value of ferning typology, electrical resistance vaginal mucus (ERVM), pH, sodium, magnesium, calcium and other cations that affect estrus performance in Aceh cattle.

Abstract

Abstract

Vaccination when the maternal antibody is high may cause neutralization of the antibody thus the immunity response is not most optimal. The measurement of titer antibodies after vaccination is an indicator to define success of the vaccination and it can be tested using the Hemagglutination Inhibition serology. This research aims to acknowledge until what age the titer antibodies shown seropositive on broilers which are vaccinated on the one-day-old hatchery. The data was obtained by random sampling from the broilers population which are taken 4 times on the day 7, day 14, day 21 and day 28. The data then is being analyzed using analysis method of variance, which is continued with regression analysis. The research result shows that broilers which have been vaccinated on the one-day-old hatchery only produce seropositive titer until 13 days old with 4.2 HI log 2 titer and began to decrease at 14 days of age with 3.9 HI log 2 titer. The conclusion of this study is that broilers vaccinated on one-day-old hatchery produced seropositive titers up to 13 days of age. Suggestions need to be given a booster vaccination at the age of 13 days in broilers vaccinated on the one-day-old hatchery.

Abstract

Dogs are one of the favorite animals that are kept by many people because they are considered intelligent and loyal animals. One of the main health problems of dogs is diarrhea caused by a bacterial infection. Shigella spp. is a pathogenic bacterium in the digestive tract of dogs. This study aims to isolate and identify Shigella spp. bacteria that cause diarrhea in dogs. Samples studied using rectal swabs in dogs showing clinical symptoms of diarrhea with a total of 48 samples from veterinary clinics in the city of Denpasar and its surroundings. Isolation of Shigella spp. was conducted on Eosin Methylene Blue Agar, Salmonella-Shigella Agar, and Sheep Blood Agar. Colonies that grew and separated on Salmonella-Shigella Agar medium were subjected to Gram staining, catalase test, oxidase test and continued with biochemical tests, namely Triple Sugar Iron Agar, Sulfid Indole Motility, Methyl Red Voges Proskauer, Simmons Citrate Agar, and test for sugars such as glucose, lactose, mannitol, and arabinose. The results showed that of the 48 isolated and identified samples, one sample showed a positive result for Shigella spp. with possibly the species Shigella dysentriae. It was concluded that one (2.08%) of Shigella spp. bacteria could be isolated and identified from 48 samples of dog rectal swabs that showed clinical symptoms of diarrhea. It is necessary to conduct further research on the level of pathogenicity of Shigella spp. bacteria and for further research, it is necessary to supplement the API 20E test to determine the Shigella species.

Abstract

The Bali duck is one of the original Indonesian germplasm whose distribution is endemic in Bali. This study aims to determine the anatomical structure, histology, and morphometry of the small intestine of Bali ducks at different ages. In this study, samples of the small intestine of Bali ducks aged 1 month, 3 months, and 5 months were used as many as 18 male Bali ducks. Bali ducks were obtained from one of the duck farms in Mengwi District, Badung Regency, Bali Province. Sampling of the small intestine was carried out in three parts, namely the duodenum, jejunum and ileum, then the organs were fixed with 10% NBF which was then made histological preparations with HE staining. The research results are presented in the form of qualitative and quantitative descriptive. The results showed that the anatomical structure of the small intestine, namely the duodenum, jejunum and ileum, had the same composition, boundaries and shape in ducks of different ages, while the histological structure of the small intestine, namely the duodenum, jejunum and ileum, was composed of four layers, namely the tunica mucosa, tunica submucosa. tunica muscularis and the outermost is the tunica serosa. Small intestine morphometry results in Balinese ducks at different ages had a significant difference at 1 and 3 months, 1 and 5 months, whereas in ducks at 3 and 5 months they were not so significant in the duodenum, jejunum and ileum. Based on the research conducted, it can be concluded that there is no change in the anatomical structure in terms of composition, boundaries, and shape, while histologically , each Balinese duck small intestine is composed of four layers including the tunica mucosa, tunica submucosa, tunica serosa and serosa, while based on the results of intestinal morphometry fine bali ducks have significant differences in each age of bali ducks both in the duodenum, jejunum and ileum, so it is necessary to do further research on female ducks and perform histomorphometry on each layer.

Abstract

The increasing population of cats, makes the need for cat food also increases. BSF maggot cultivation is a trend in Indonesia, as for the products produced such as BSF maggot oil. BSF maggot oil can be used as an additional supplement because of its high protein content. Several studies have shown that the Black Soldier Fly maggot is an insect that is high in protein which is considered to be able to meet the protein needs in the body. This study aims to compare the leukocyte profile in cats fed traditional diets and cats fed commercial feeds with BSF maggot oil added to both feeds, and to determine whether BSF maggot oil affects leukocytes in cats that consume them. The study used 24 samples of cat blood aged approximately one to three years. Furthermore, they were divided into four treatment groups. The control group is a cat that is fed commercial food (P0), the first treatment group is a cat that is fed commercial food with the addition of BSF maggot oil (P1), the second treatment group is a cat that is given traditional food in the form of boiled tuna (P2), and lastly, the third treatment group was cats that were fed traditional food with BSF maggot oil (P3) added. The data from the examination were analyzed using the variance test (ANOVA), to see the effect between treatments, followed by Duncan's test. The results of this study indicate that the treatment of dry commercial feed and traditional feed added with black soldier fly magot oil statistically there was a significant difference in the values ??of neutrophils, eosinophils, and lymphocytes in the cat group (P0) with (P1) (P<0.05), but not there was a significant difference between groups (P2) and (P3) (P>0.05).
