Abstract

Dinamika folikuler atau sering disebut dengan gelombang folikuler merupakan suatu perkembangan folikel (folikulogenesis) meliputi pertumbuhan serentak sekelompok folikel, satu diantaranya akan menjadi folikel dominan, mencapai ukuran terbesar, serta akan menekan perkembangan folikel-folikel lain. Folikulogenesis adalah proses yang bertanggung jawab untuk perkembangan folikel ovulatori dan pelepasan satu atau lebih oosit pada interval tertentu pada keseluruhan siklus reproduksi hewan betina. Jumlah gelombang per siklus tidak tergantung pada usia atau breed hewan. Gelombang folikel terdiri dari kelompok folikel yang mengalami perkembangan serentak selama fase akhir pertumbuhan. Tujuan penulisan ini adalah untuk mengetahui hormon apa saja yang terlibat dalam proses tersebut serta peranannya. Dinamika folikuler di negara maju sudah di aplikasikan dalam memantau fertilitas dan manipulasi reproduksi, sehingga dengan pengetahuan tersebut juga akan dapat menambah pengetahuan fungsi ovarium pada hewan.Kata kunci : hormon, dinamika folikuler, hewan domestic

Abstract

Epididymis is the important organ in male reproductive system. Functions of epididymis are as transportation, maturation, and storage of sperm. Sperm of testikular are non-functional gamets, and only during transit through the epididymis, the sperm will become functional gamets. Synthesis and secretion of some proteins by epididymis epithelium are very important for maturation of sperm in epididymis. Abstract

Dinamika folikuler atau sering disebut dengan gelombang folikuler merupakan suatu perkembangan folikel (folikulogenesis) meliputi pertumbuhan serentak sekelompok folikel, satu diantaranya akan menjadi folikel dominan, mencapai ukuran terbesar, serta akan menekan perkembangan folikel-folikel lain. Folikulogenesis adalah proses yang bertanggung jawab untuk perkembangan folikel ovulatori dan pelepasan satu atau lebih oosit pada interval tertentu pada keseluruhan siklus reproduksi hewan betina. Jumlah gelombang per siklus tidak tergantung pada usia atau breed hewan. Gelombang folikel terdiri dari kelompok folikel yang mengalami perkembangan serentak selama fase akhir pertumbuhan. Tujuan penulisan ini adalah untuk mengetahui hormon apa saja yang terlibat dalam proses tersebut serta peranannya. Dinamika folikuler di negara maju sudah di aplikasikan dalam memantau fertilitas dan manipulasi reproduksi, sehingga dengan pengetahuan tersebut juga akan dapat menambah pengetahuan fungsi ovarium pada hewan.Kata kunci : hormon, dinamika folikuler, hewan domestic

Abstract

Aceh cattle are one of the many cow’s species that are widely preserved and distributed in Aceh Province. This species is the result of a cross between Bos sundaicus and Bos indicus and has been designated as a native Indonesian class of cattle in 2011 by the Minister of Agriculture of Indonesia through the decision of the Minister of Agriculture number 2907 / Kpts / OT.140 / 6/2011 [1]. Aceh's cattle population in 2017 in total was 627,629 species [2]. Slaughtering the cows results in the obtaining of byproduct or waste such as ovaries. The ovarium of female cows is one of the complement results of animal slaughter house which is infrequently used. In fact, the ovaries comprise follicles which contain many active compounds inside the follicular fluids such as insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estrogen and progesterone [3]. Freeze drying/lyophilization is one of the preservative process which are generally used in food and non-food processing. This study was conducted to determine the effect of these methods on the concentration of estrogen in follicular fluid.

Abstract

Reproduction is an important factor that requires attention to increase livestock production. The application of artificial insemination (AI) technology has been developed rapidly in the world, so that availability of fertile superior male is a determinant factor of successful AI. Several recent studies have been aimed to discover male fertility biomarker, by intense research on fertility-associated proteins contained in seminal plasma. This paper describes the role of adiponectin as a biomarker candidate of male fertility. Adiponectin has a positive effect on spermatozoa functionality and steroidogenesis. This has been proven by several studies that found its expression in Sertoli cells and Leydig cells in the reproductive tract. Based on the specific role on spermatozoa functionality and steroidogenesis in supporting male fertility parameter, it is strongly suggested that adiponectin is an excellent candidate biomarker for male fertility.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to observe the uterine involution of Etawa crossbreed (PE) goat using transcutaneous ultrasonography (USG). This study used four postpartum female goats that released placenta normally. The goats were examined on lateral recumbence position. Uterine involution was observed daily. The study began from the first day of postpartum period until there were no more reduction of uterine horns lumen diameter. From the 1st to 7th day of postpartum period, ultrasound imaging of the uterine wall showed caruncle which was hypoechoic, lumen of uterine filled with lochia (the image was hypoechoic to anechoic) and a clearly visible uterine horns lumen which had decreased in diameter from 105.9 ± 0.9 mm to 87.2 ± 4.6 mm. From the 8th day to the 14th day, lumen diameter had decreased from 80.4 ± 3.8 mm to 63.6 ± 3.2 mm. The presence of caruncle was reduced and the amount of lochia was decreased (anechoic). From the 15th day to the 21st day, lumen diameter had decreased from 61.4 ± 2.1 mm to 52.1 ± 2.7 mm, and the remnants of caruncle and lochia were still visible. From the 22nd day to the 26th day, the diameter of the uterine wall had decreased from 49.7 ± 0.6 mm to 41.5 ± 6.7 mm, and the lochia and caruncle were no longer visible. From the 26th to the 30th day, uterine horns lumen diameter had still decreased from 41.5 ± 6.7 mm to 31.7 ± 0.9 mm. Uterine horns lumen diameter size had decreased every day, stabilized on the 30th day, and ceased to decrease on the 31st day, where the diameter size was the same as on the 30th day postpartum (31.7 ± 0.9 mm). It can be concluded that the duration of uterine involution in PE goats, which had normal delivery is 30-31 days.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak akar pasak bumi (Eurycoma longifolia Jack) terhadap peningkatan konsentrasi testosteron domba Waringin. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan dua ekor domba waringin jantan berumur ±4 tahun. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen dengan menggunakan rancangan pola bujur sangkar latn 2 x 2 sehingga hewan percobaan diberi perlakuan 20 mL akuades per oral sebagai kontrol (P1) dan 20 mL larutan yang mengandung 45 mg/kg bobot badan ekstrak pasak bumi yang diberikan per oral (P2). Perlakuan diberikan selama enam hari pada pukul 09.00 WIB. Pada bulan ke-1 domba pertama mendapat perlakuan P1 sedangkan domba kedua mendapat perlakuan P2. Sebaliknya, pada bulan ke-2 domba pertama mendapat perlakuan P2 sedangkan domba kedua mendapat perlakuan P1. Koleksi darah untuk pemeriksaan konsentrasi hormon testosteron dilakukan lima jam setelah pemberian ekstrak akar pasak bumi (Eurycoma longifolia Jack). Analisis konsentrasi testosteron dilakukan menggunakan metode enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) yang diukur pada hari 1, 3 dan 6. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan uji sidik ragam pola bujur sangkar latin. Hasil analisis statistika menunjukkan bahwa volume semen, motilitas spermatozoa, viabilitas spermatozoa dan abnormalitas spermatozoa pada domba yang diberikan ekstrak akar pasak bumi (E. longifolia Jack) menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan (P<0,05) dibandingkan dengan kontrol namun konsentrasi testosteron tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan (P>0,05). Disimpulkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak akar pasak bumi meningkatkan kualitas spermatozoa namun tidak menyebabkan peningkatan konsentrasi hormon testosteron pada domba waringin.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the ability of red betel leaf (Piper crocatum) or Moringa leaf extracts to reduce the endometritis level in Aceh cattle. In this study, six Aceh cows aged 3-5 years, weighing 150-250 kg from the Experimental Animal Technical Implementation Unit of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Syiah Kuala University were used. The cows were divided into two treatment groups, namely cows with endometritis that were given red betel leaf extract (T1) and cows with endometritis that were given Moringa leaf extract (T2). Examination of the endometritis levels was carried out before and after treatment using the White Side Test (WST) method. The collection of estrus cervical mucus was needed for the WST examination, and heat induction was performed with prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2α) at a dose of 25 μg. Collection of cervical mucus was performed 8-12 hours after the initiation of heat. All cows with endometritis were given intrauterine extracts of red betel leaves or Moringa leaves at a concentration of 20% every 24 hours for a week at a solution volume of 20 ml. The data were then analyzed using a paired t test. The mean endometritis levels before and after treatment on K1 vs. K2 were 3.0 and 1.7 vs. 2.7 and 2.7, respectively (P<0.05). It was concluded that red betel leaf extract at a concentration of 20% was more effective in reducing the endometritis level of Aceh cows than Moringa leaf extract.
