Abstract

Dogs skin are susceptible to skin diseases cause by bacterial infection. Although Streptococcus spp. is a component of the normal flora of the skin, streptococcal infection can cause diseases in dogs such as abscesses, local infections, and life-threatening septicemia. Eco-enzyme fermentation products are suspected to have high antibacterial activity due to the content of acetic acid. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of eco-enzyme in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus spp. using the agar well diffusion method with a completely randomized design experiment of 6 treatments and 4 trials which include eco-enzyme with concentrations of 30%, 50%, 70%, 100%, aquadest as the negative control, and Penicillin G as the positive control. The parameter measured is the diameter of the inhibition zone formed. The data were then analyzed with Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results of the study showed that the eco-enzyme with concentrations of 30%, 70%, and 100% were able to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus spp.

Abstract

Detection dog is one of the animals that assists the task of the Indonesian National Police in maintaining and securing the order of the Indonesian state. Many tasks were given to detection dogs, namely to find explosives, drug-tracking operations, security operations and look for casualities of natural disasters such as landslides and earthquakes. Due to their work environment that are quite extreme and stressful, it affects the stress level of the dog itself, because their working environment greatly affect the hematologic profiles of the dog. Therefore, routine blood examinations are needed such as leucocyte profiling. This study aims to determine the leukocyte profile of detection dog. This research uses descriptive observational research method. The object used in this study is the entire population of Malang City Police's detection dogs. Blood samples were taken and then examined using a hematology analyzer and the blood smears were examined under a microscope using the Diff quik stain. The data obtained were then compared with the hematological standard results, and then analyzed. The results indicate that one of ten samples has leucocytosis and as for differential leukocyte results, the results are quite diverse. Out of ten samples, one sample are found to be limphocytosis, four samples are found to be lymphositopenia, two samples are found to be monocytosis, one sample are found to be neutrophilia, six samples are found to be eosinophilia and the ten samples for basophils were in the normal range. It is necessary to do advanced sample examination to diagnose the cause of abnormal leukocyte total and leukocyte differential values ??in detection dogs at the State Police of the Republic of Indonesia, Malang City Resor.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is one of the common causes of bovine mastitis worldwide. Inappropriate use of antimicrobials in cattle farms contributes to the increase of the antimicrobial resistance of S. aureus. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial resistance profiles of S. aureus isolated from cattle milk. Twelve S. aureus isolated from cattle milk in Bogor, Indonesia, were tested against seven antimicrobials using Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion susceptibility test. The results revealed that 58.3 % of isolates were multidrug-resistant S. aureus. The S. aureus isolates were resistant to penicillin G (66.7 %), ampicillin (66.7 %), vancomycin (58.3 %), and bacitracin (58.3 %). Most of the isolates were susceptible to ciprofloxacin (91.7 %), gentamicin (66.7 %), and chloramphenicol (66.67 %). If clinically indicated, treatment of mastitis should consider the antimicrobial susceptibility of the causative agent.

Abstract

In an effort to eradicate rabies, vaccination has been carried out for rabies carriers (HPR), such as dogs, cats and monkeys. Vaccination of dogs in the field has been carried out by the district/city Animal Husbandry Service once a year which is centered on each sub-village and even visits household from door to door. In order to provide a good protection, vaccination coverage is should above 70% of the HPR population at risk. Mother dogs who have antibodies will transfer them to their puppies through the placenta and milk when they give birth. Antibodies transferred from mother to child are called Maternal Antibodies (MA). To find out whether puppies have MA rabies, a study was conducted on puppies at the Beringkit Market, Badung Regency, using a descriptive observation method. The research aims to detect whether the puppies sold at the Beringkit market have maternal antibodies. ELISA test is conducted to measure the antibody from serum sample. A total of 30 serum lample were examined. From the results of the study using, 40% of 30 dog have had protective maternal antibodies (OD value >0.5IU) and 60% have not had protective maternal antibodies.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the developing countries that has a high number of smokers and cigarette production. Cigarettes are not only harmful to the smoker, but also harmful to those around them who inhale the smoke. Organ damage caused by free radicals from cigarette smoke can be repaired with antioxidants. One of the plants in Indonesia that contains antioxidants is sappan wood (Caesalpinia sappan linn). This study aims to determine the effect of sappan wood extract on the histopathological picture of male mice (Mus musculus) exposed to conventional cigarette smoke for 30 days. This study used kidney samples of male mice, adults aged 35-45 days and body weight between 30-35g totaling 24 individuals. Mice were divided into 4 groups, each group consisted of 6 mice. The experimental animals were isolated on the 30th day, then the kidney histopathological examination of mice was performed. The results of histopathological observations of male mice's kidneys showed varying degrees of severity. The results of Kruskal Wallis' analysis of histopathological examination data were scored, showing a significant difference (p<0.05) for both necrotizing and inflammatory lesions. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that administration of secang wood extract at a dose of 30 mg/30 g BW of mice/day and 60 mg/30 g BW of mice/day can improve kidney lesions of male mice due to exposure to cigarette smoke, based on the reduction of necrotizing and inflammatory lesions. Further research is needed with increasing doses and longer time to determine the effective dose of secang wood extract in reducing kidney damage due to exposure to cigarette smoke in mice.

Abstract

Dermatophytosis is a skin disease caused by dermatophytes yeast. The purpose of examining the case dogs is to determine the agent of the disease that causes many lesions on the dog's skin. The case dog was brought to the Pedungan Vet Care clinic with complaints of skin problems that had been occurring for one month. the case dog is a mixed breed dog aged about one year with a body weight of 12.2 kg and is a rescued dog. On clinical examination there were abnormalities such as lesions consisting of a combination of alopecia, erythema, and crusts. The lesions were found on the ear, face, hind limb, pelvic limb, abdomen, and dorsal part of the body. Then the parts of the lesion were scraped at the edges of the lesion using 10% KOH and a swab. From the results of skin scrapings, the results were negative for dermatophytes. The Wood's lamp examination was negative. On tape smear examination, macroconidia were found in the form of elliptical which were divided into several cells, indicating a positive result of Microsporum sp. Based on the history, physical examination, clinical examination, and laboratory, it can be said that the disease is dermatophytosis. Case dogs were given causative and symptomatic therapy, for causative therapy griseofulvin was given at a dose of 500 mg/kg/bb q.12 hours orally and symptomatic therapy was given the antihistamine chlorpheniramine maleate at a dose of 4 mg/kg/bb q.12 hours orally for 14 days, antiseptic chlorhexidine gluconate 0.05% for cleaning wounds twice a day, and case dogs were bathed with Sebazole® antifungal shampoo twice a week for one month. After seven days of treatment, the pruritus symptoms observed decreased but there were no significant changes for other diseases.
