Abstract

Meat quality security is absolutely necessary to ensure that the public as consumers get meat that is safe, healthy, whole, and halal for consumption. This test aims to evaluate the quality of meat and processed meat products in terms of subjective and objective tests. The samples used in this test were beef, pork, chicken, and fish as well as processed meat products in the form of meatballs and sausages from chicken, beef, pork, and fish from Kumbasari Traditional Market and Cokroaminoto Market, Denpasar City, Bali. All meat samples were tested for quality subjectively including color, odor, consistency and texture, state of the weave binder, marbledness of meat and objectively covering pH, water holding capacity, moisture content, microbial contamination. In processed meat products, subjective tests are carried out only for color, aroma, consistency, texture, taste and objective tests with pH checks. The results of tests on meat and processed meat products that have been carried out both subjectively and objectively show that beef, pork, chicken and meatballs and beef, pork, chicken and fish sausages have good quality. However, in testing the fish meat has a soft texture, a fishy smell mixed with a foul odor (no smell of fresh blood) and microbial contamination that exceeds the maximum limit. It can be concluded that beef, pork, chicken, processed meat products and processed fish products from Kumbasari Market and Cokroaminoto Market are suitable for consumption. Meanwhile, the fish meat from the Kumbasari Market and Cokroaminoto Market that were tested were not suitable for consumption.

Abstract

Dogs are very susceptible to skin diseases such as dermatitis and bacteria that are often found in cases of dermatitis are Staphylococcus spp. Environmentally friendly herbal medicines and believed to be antimicrobial are ecoenzymes. The ecoenzymes in this study were made from papaya skin (Carica papaya L.), soursop skin (Annona muricata L.), neem leaf (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) and lemongrass (Cymbopogon winterianus Jowitt). This study aims to determine the inhibitory power of ecoenzymes against Staphylococcus spp. bacteria isolated from dog skin ectodermal tissue. This research uses a quantitative method with modification of agar plate diffusion (Kirby Bauer) with well diffusion technique. This study was experimental and used a completely randomized design with 6 treatments, namely ecoenzyme concentrations of 30%, 50%, 70%, 100%, positive control and negative control. Data analysis used ANOVA and continued with the Games-Howell test. The results showed that the ecoenzyme used had inhibition against Staphylococcus spp. bacteria at concentrations of 50%, 70% and 100%.

Abstract

Bali cattle are one of the native Indonesian cattle that have great potential as a meat producer. The potential population of Bali cattle in Gerokgak, with existing supporting facilities, is the reason for the importance of continuous selection so that the genetic quality of individuals can be improved, selection can be done through measurement (quantitative). This study aims to determine the diversity and correlation between circumference dimensions of bali cattle based on body circumference measurements of bali cows. This study used a purposive sampling method on 25 adult bali cattle kept at the Bali Superior Cattle Breeding Center in Gerogak, Buleleng, Bali. Then the data was processed by descriptive analysis and biplot analysis using the SPSS version 26. The results obtained were in the form of the smallest (uniform) coefficient of diversity for bali cattle is chest circumference of 5,13%, followed by upper neck circumference of 6,38%, the steering circumference is 7,74% and the most diverse is the lower neck circumference of 8,69%. Chest circumference is positively correlated with lower neck circumference and upper neck circumference but negatively correlated with steering circumference. It is recommended to make a selection on the steering wheel of the cow and pay attention to the management of the maintenance of Bali cattle because these two things are interconnected in producing superior breeds of cows.

Abstract

The Balinese believe that body size (the ratio of body length to snout length) in dogs is related to behavior, therefore body size is used to predict dog character. How to predict by measuring body size is a local wisdom that is still trusted for choosing a good dog. This belief has been running for a long time from their ancestors and has become a culture. Dog behavior according to local wisdom in Bali in general and in Sukawana Village, Kintamani District, Bangli Regency in particular, is categorized as: guna, jaya, forced, tek and kyul. Guna is a dog with an obedient character, useful and suitable as a hunting dog. Jaya is a dog with good character, attractive, energetic, tends to be hyperactive, this type of dog is also good for hunting. Force is a dog that is difficult to manage, requiring special handling, suitable for keeping the house. Tek is a dog with dirty behavior and difficult to train or manage and Kyul is a dog with a lazy character. A total of 66 Kintamani dogs were used as experimental animals. The research design used a cross-sectional study design. Body size observation data was then compared with clinical observations in the same dog. The results show that there is a relationship between behavior and body size (ratio of body length to snout length). It was concluded that body size (body length to snout length ratio) can be implemented to predict behavior.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of sappan wood extract (Caesalpinia Sappan Linn) on spermatogenesis and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels of male mice (Mus Musculus) erythrocytes after exposure to conventional cigarette smoke. This study is an experimental study using a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of control (P0) and three treatments, namely the administration of sappan wood extract (P1) = exposure to cigarette smoke as much as 2 sticks, (P2) = exposure to cigarette smoke 2 sticks and giving sappan wood extract at a dose of 30mg/weight Mice/day, (P3) = Exposure to cigarette smoke 2 sticks and administration of a sappan wood extract at a dose of 60mg/weight mice/day. Experimental animals used in this study were male mice, 6 months old adults and weighing between 20-40 g, totaling 24 individuals. Data analysis for the number of spermatogonia cells, spermatocytes, spermatids and ROS levels of erythrocytes were analyzed using variance if significant changes were found, then Duncan's test was continued. The results showed that the administration of sappan wood extract was able to reduce ROS levels in erythrocytes of male mice after exposure to conventional cigarette smoke, but statistically had no significant effect (P>0.05). Conclusion giving sappan wood extract at a dose of 60mg/weight mice/day gave a more effective effect on the spermatogenesis picture in male mice after exposure to conventional cigarette smoke compared to a dose of 30mg/weight mice/day. Abstract

Mange is a disorder of the skin that can cause displeasure and changes in the skin. Scurvy is caused by Sarcoptes scabiei and Demodex spp. The number of dermatitis events in dogs is caused by maintenance management by removing which may be able to contact with dogs with mange. The purpose of this study was to find out the prevalence of mange mite infestations, the type of mite, and its relationship to risk factors that influence infestations in dogs in Bali. The number of study samples was 100 dogs in Bali that showed clinical symptoms in the form of disobedience which was distinguished by age, race, gender, and way of maintenance. The dog selected as a diselotip sample is then examined with a microscope to identify the mites. A dog sample tests positive if at least one mite is found. The results showed the prevalence of mange mites in dogs in Bali was 22% consisting of Sarcoptes scabiei 10% and Demodex spp. 12%. Further identification found Demodex canis with a prevalence of 7% and Demodex cornei 5%. The Chi-square test found that age and way of maintenance had a prevalence relationship between mite infestations, while gender and race were not associated with the prevalence of mite infestations. In connection with the large prevalence, serious attention is needed for dogs kept in Bali, especially regarding skin hygiene and health.

Abstract

Dental disease is a problem that is common in Indonesia, and it affects around 96.58% of the population. The use of chemical drugs that can cause side effects in patients makes people start other alternative treatments by using natural ingredients namely meniran (Phyllanthus niruri L). This study examines the liver histopathology of Wistar rats with chronic apical periodontitis after administration of intracanal drugs. This study looked at the effects of a medicament paste on rats for a period of seven, fourteen, and twenty-one days. Experimental animals were adapted to chronic apical periodontitis by inducing Enterococcus faecalis into right maxillary molars for 21 days.On day 22, all drug treatment groups were opened with GIC and given the prescribed drug treatment, and then closed again with GIC. The observed variables were the presence of inflammatory cell infiltration, hyperemia, and necrosis. Data were analyzed using a non-parametric statistical Kruskal-Wallis test, and if there was a significant difference, it was continued with the Mann-Whitney test. The results of the study showed that there was no significant difference between the three treatment groups (P1, P2, P3) and there was a significant difference between P0 and the other two groups. However, the results of statistical analysis of necrosis observed by histopathology in the liver showed that there was no significant difference between P0, P1, P2 and P3 treatments (P>0.05).From the research results, it can be concluded that administration of meniran leaves ethanolic extract can improve liver histopathology in rats with chronic apical periodontitis.

Abstract

All parts of the cemcem plant (Spondias pinnata (L.f.) Kurz) have been clinically tested to have various benefits in the health sector, making it ideal for processing into raw materials for herbal medicine. The high content of steroids, triterpenoids, phenolics and flavonoids in cemcem leaves has the potential to make cemcem leaves as natural antioxidants. The various phytochemical contents in cemcem leaves provide assorted properties so that they have the potential to produced and processed into numerous medicinal preparations. This study will calculate the number of microbes’ contamination in cemcem leaves that grow in Denpasar City. The examination of microbial contamination was carried out through the Total Plate Count (TPC) and Yeast Fungus Test (YFT). The research data obtained were quantitative data that were analyzed by counting the number of microbes that grow on PCA and PDA after incubation at the appropriate growth temperatures. The results of this study show that the Total Plate Count from the sample was 1,5 x CFU/gram and the Yeast Fungus Test was 3,5 x CFU/gram. So the results of these studies can be concluded the number of ALT has fulfilled the requirements for the Semi Solid Drugs (colony/gram) but do not qualify the requirements for the Oral Drugs (colony/gram) on the number of AKK are required for Semi Solid Drugs (colony/gram) but do not qualify the requirements for the Oral Drugs (colony/gram). So it can be concluded that samples of cemcem leaves that grow in Pemogan Village, Denpasar City can only be processed into external raw medicine. It is necessary to apply Good Traditional Medicine Manufacturing Methods to obtain quality products and to re-sterilize simplicia samples using UV radiation and gamma rays to reduce the amount of microbial contamination.
