Abstract

Canine transmissible venereal tumor (CTVT) or known as infectious sarcoma, is a genital tumor that is transmitted through sexual contact, bites or licks on the tumor lesion area. A 7-year-old Labrador Retriever with 40 kg of body weight was examined with a complaint of a mass on the vulva with blood discharge. Histopathological examination showed the presence of CTVT tumor cells with homogeneous polyhedral cells and arranged in stroma. Treatment is done by excision of the tumor mass. Premedication was given atropine sulfate (0.02 mg/kg) intramuscularly and 15 minutes later was induced by combination xylazine (1 mg/kg) and ketamin (10 mg/kg) intramuscularly. Postoperatively, the antibiotic amoxicillin (7 mg/kg) was administered intramuscularly and the antibiotic amoxicillin 500 mg (15 mg/kg) was administered on the second postoperative day, given orally three times a day for five days. On the 5th postoperative day, the tumor incision wound had dried up and the swelling of the vulva was much reduced, but there was still blood discharge indicating the presence of venereal cells that were left behind. The first dose of chemotherapy using vincristine sulfate (0.025 mg/kg) was given on the seventh postoperative day with one-week interval. The blood discharge was gone on the 7th day after the first chemo. The conclusion is, the treatment of CTVT cases with excision method accompanied with chemotherapy gives good results on patient’s recovery. It’s recommended to perform hematology and echocardiography test before chemotherapy to ensure the patient is in stable condition.

Abstract

In contrast to Bali cattle, which have known characterization of both body sizes and genetics, the Taro white cattle not many people know the phenotypic and genotypic characterization. The ear is one of the important organs of the body to determine the morphometric characterization of cattle. The ear is an important organ that functions to maintain balance, which is related to other organs such as the eyes, joints, muscles, and skin. This research is done to determine the morphometry of white taro cattle’s auricle in Taro village, Tegallalang District, Gianyar Regency, Bali, Indonesia. The amount of samples used is 26 taro cattle (> 3 years old). Measuring tape with cm as its unit is used to measure the auricle. The data collected includes length and width analyzed quantitatively. To test the differences between males and females, a T-test (Independent T-test) was used, the analytical procedure using the SPSS program was used. The measurement of the auricle of the male and female taro white cattle obtained the average length and width of the bulls (22.833 cm and 3.8883 cm) while in females (21.785 and 3.5771 cm) the P value < 0.01 (P = 0.00) means that there is a very significant difference between the average length and width of the ear auricles of male and female white cattle. Longer auricles can adapt more easily to hot conditions. The standard deviation value is smaller than the average value which indicates the data is acceptable or homogeneous.

Abstract

Dog is one of the animals that has been human’s pet for thousands of years. The aim of this study was to find the morphometry of canine oocyte from various age and reproductive maturity status. In this study, 22 pairs of ovarium samples were collected and stored with Phosphate Buffer Saline (PBS) as transport media. Oocytes were collected using the method of slashing, where multiple slashes were made on the cortex of ovaries and then flushed with NaCl. Petri dish containing NaCl were then observed under the microscope to find the oocyte. Oocyte diameter was obtained by averaging two measurements made perpendicular to each other. If oocytes are obscured by cumulus cells, measurement was taken diagonally. Measurements taken were diameter of oocyte (including zona pellucida) and diameter of ooplasma. Based on statistical analysis of this study using one-way ANOVA, showed oocyte and ooplasma diameters from groups of prepubertal, <1 year old post-pubertal (juvenile), 1-4 years old (mature), and >4 years old (old) are almost indistinguishable. Oocytes from mature dogs had the largest diameter (oocyte = 108,0±27,8µm and ooplasma = 85,7±19,5µm) and was sigfinicantly larger than oocytes from prepubertal dogs (oocyte = 102,5±29,4µm and ooplasma = 84,8±25,4µm). Juvenile dogs had the smallest diameter (oocyte = 94,1±28,9µm and ooplasma = 78,8±25, µm), followed by old dogs (oocyte = 98,5±38,7µm and ooplasma 83,01±35,1µm). Further investigations of oocyte morphometry are needed while focusing more on follicle size, estrus cycle, and oocyte quality.

Abstract

Based on the Veterinary Public Health Sciences aspects, animal originated-products for human consumption must have good quality. There are irregularities in the physical performance of pigs raised in certain breeders in Bali, such as the growth of meat muscles being very marked and unsuitable when viewed from the influence of genetic quality, feed, and maintenance management in general. From this discrepancy, there was an allegation of the use of Beta agonist 2 which had been banned by the government, which might still be given to pigs. The existence of business competition to reap high profits regardless of consumer health is an act against the law. Therefore, in this paper, the authors invite animal and community health observers within the One Health unit to supervise and take necessary actions.

Abstract

A 10-year-old male Shih Tzu dog named Renbow is experiencing skin problems with signs of itching. Clinical examination showed alopecia, erythema, thickening of the skin and oily skin. On the face to the left side of the neck, the dog was injured due to scratching with a high enough intensity with swelling under the skin filled with fluid. On examination of deep skin scraping on the skin found the mite Demodex sp. amounted to 3-8 per one field of view and skin cytology examination showed the fungus Malassezia sp. with the spores. Hematological examination showed that the animal had normochromic normocytic anemia. The case dog was diagnosed with demodicosis with dermatitis due to fungal infection of Malassezia sp. The therapy given is by cleaning the injured skin using Chlorhexidine and smeared with Gentamicin and Ketoconazole (in the form of an ointment), administering the antiparasitic NexGard SPECTRA®, Clindamycin, Cetirizine, Furosemide and fish oil. Dogs are bathed 2 times a week using a shampoo containing sulfur. Evaluation after 10 days the dog's condition has improved with reduced scratching intensity, swelling due to fluid on the neck and face has disappeared, the erythema has begun to decrease and the initially oily skin has begun to disappear. Examinations deep skin scrapping after 10 days also showed the absence of Demodex sp mites. and reduced findings of Malassezia sp. The treatment given is continued in the next two months to be re-evaluated. Dogs show improvement in condition after being given therapy and intensive care is needed for dogs to prevent re-infection.

Abstract

Lymphosarcoma is a malignant tumor that occurs in the lymphosarcoma system, the cause of lymphosarcoma is not fully known, but there are several risk factors that can trigger the occurrence of lymphosarcoma such as age, genetic changes, infections, chemical radiation, and certain immunodeficiency diseases. This case report aims to find out how to diagnose and treat cases of inguinal lymphosarcoma in dogs. A 2 year old male minipom dog with a weight of 5.6 kg was examined with complaints of a lump in the inguinal area on the dextra penis since 3 weeks. Based on the anamnesis, results of physical examination, observed clinical signs and histopathological investigations, the dog was diagnosed with lymphosarcoma. Animals are then treated with rehabilitation to remove the tumor. Premedication was given subcutaneous atropine sulfate 0.03 mg/kg BB, followed by administration of a combination of xylazine 2 mg/kg BB and ketamine 12 mg/kg BB intravenous. Surgical removal of the tumor is carried out by excision of the tumor mass by separating the nearby tissue. Postoperatively the dog was given cefotaxime injection of 20 mg/kg BB intravenous for 3 days, followed by oral administration of cefixime 5 mg/kg BB for 5 days. Giving anti-inflammatory tolfedine at a dose of 4 mg/kg BB intramuscular for 3 days. On the first day to the seventh day of the surgical wound, enbatic powder was given and the next day, gentamicin sulfate ointment was given. After the operation, the animals were observed to determine the healing of the postoperative wounds, on the 12 day the wounds had dried and fused, and the three stitches had fallen off on their own. Treatment of lymphosarcoma cases is carried out by removing the tumor mass. Healing of the surgical wound was observed on the 12 day. To get maximum results, consider chemotherapy and or radiotherapy to destroy cells that have metastasized in tissues.

Abstract

The detection dog is one of the animals that assists the task of the Indonesian National Police in maintaining and securing the order of the Indonesian state. The tasks assigned to detection dogs are to find explosives, drug tracking operations, security operations and look for victims of natural disasters such as landslides to earthquakes. Due to environmental factors that are quite extreme and heavy affect the stress level of the bloodhound itself, environmental conditions greatly affect the picture of blood values. Therefore, the results of the health examination of the erythrocyte profile are needed. This research uses descriptive observational research method. The object used in this study was the entire population of Malang City Police's detection dogs. Blood was taken and then examined using a hematology analyzer machine and then compared with hematology standards and then analyzed. From the studies that have been done, it was concluded that all samples showed anemia with the results of various examination values, and are likely caused by poor quality feed and water. For this reason, it is necessary to carry out further examinations such as parasitic examinations, radiology, and blood chemistry.

Abstract

Exposure to cigarette smoke can increase the risk of coronary heart disease due to the free radicals generated. One of the plants in Indonesia that contains antioxidants is sappan wood. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving secang wood extract (Caesalpinia sappan Linn) on the histopathological picture of male mice (Mus musculus) after exposure to conventional cigarette smoke. This study used 24 samples of adult male mice aged 35-45 days with body weight between 30-35 grams obtained from a mouse farm in Gianyar, Bali. The sample was divided into 4 treatments with 6 replications, namely negative control without sappan extract treatment and exposure to cigarette smoke, positive control with 2 cigarette smoke exposure a day, 2 cigarette smoke exposure a day and 30 mg/head dose of sappan wood extract. and the treatment was exposed to cigarette smoke as much as 2 cigarettes a day and administration of sappan wood extract at a dose of 60 mg/head, for 30 days. On the 31st day, the experimental animals were sacrificed to take heart muscle and processed into histopathological preparations. The examination was carried out based on the presence of congestion and inflammation lesions. The severity of the lesions was scored as mild, moderate and severe. Observational data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric statistical test and continued with the Mann-Whitney test if there was a significant difference. The results showed that there was a significant difference (p<0.05) between mice exposed to cigarette smoke and mice given sappan wood extract after exposure to cigarette smoke. It can be concluded that the administration of sappan wood extract at a dose of 30mg/mouse and 60mg/mouse can improve the heart lesions of male mice after exposure to conventional cigarette smoke. Further research is needed on the use of sappan wood extract with different doses in order to obtain more comprehensive results in treating heart damage after exposure to cigarette smoke.

Abstract

Azotemia is an increase in the concentration of non-protein nitrogenous compounds in the blood, which consist of urea and creatinine. Azotemia can be categorized into prerenal, renal, and postrenal mechanisms. Postrenal azotemia is a urological condition caused by lower urinary tract disorders. Lower urinary tract infections prevent the normal collection and excretion of urine from the body. This paper reports the case of a mixed-breed Persian male cat named Abu, aged 1.5 years, with dark gray hair, weighing 4.19 kg, brought to the clinic with clinical signs of lethargy and weakness (lethargic), high frequency of urination but little urine (pollakiuria), bloody urine (hematuria), pain during urination (stranguria), and urinary bladder distension (VU) and decreased appetite. Radiographic examination shows enlargement of the size of the VU. Urinalysis examination using a dipstick test showed protein +1, erythrocytes +2 (50), leukocytes +2 (75), pH 7, and urine specific gravity (USG) 1.040. Sedimentation examination obtained results in the form of reddish urine, white froth, the presence of sediment, and the smell of urine. Microscopic examination revealed crystals of magnesium ammonium phosphate (struvite). Routine hematological examination shows an increase in neutrophils (neutrophilia) interpreted as an acute inflammatory response. Blood biochemical examination showed an increase in creatinine and Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN). The Symmetric Dimethylarginine Assay (SDMA) test yielded 19 ?g/dL. The cat was diagnosed with postrenal azotemia due to lower urinary tract infection. The therapy given is fluid therapy, antibiotics, multivitamins, changing the feed diet, and rinsing with the help of a urinary catheter. Six weeks after recovery, biochemical analysis as azotemia parameters returned to normal values. Detection of postrenal azotemia with prompt and accurate judgment is important for patient recovery.

Abstract

The Kintamani dog is a germplasm originating from Sukawana Village, Kintamani District, Bangli Regency, Bali Province and has become the fauna mascot of Bangli Regency and for now the Kintamani dog has been recognized as the only dog ??breed from Indonesia that has been recognized worldwide. One of the most common problems in dogs is the occurrence of diseases in the digestive tract, namely diarrhea. Diarrhea that is not treated immediately can have a fatal impact on the affected animal. Klebsiella sp. is a normal bacterial flora in the digestive tract that is an opportunistic pathogen. This study aims to determine or identify Klebsiella sp. in the digestive tract of Kintamani dogs with diarrhea. Klebsiella sp. isolated from rectal swab results in Kintamani dogs with diarrhea and then cultured on EMBA and Sheep Blood Agar media, Gram staining, catalase test, and oxidase test were performed. Then the isolates were identified on Triple Sugar Iron Agar (TSIA), Sulfide Indol Motility (SIM), Simon Citrate Agar (SCA), Methyl Red Voges Proskauer (MRVP), and the Confectionery test. The results showed that from 35 samples, four (11.4%) positive samples of Klebsiella sp. diarrhea in Kintamani dogs. For further research, it is necessary to complement the API 20E test to determine the species of Klebsiella sp. more specific.
