Abstract

Sukabumi District is reported to date as an endemic rabies area in West Java Province. In supporting the rabies control programs, the occurrence of rabies needs to be determined to decrease the number of cases. This research aims to determine the seroprevalence of rabies and identify the risk factors associated with rabies in the district. The research was conducted in Jampang Tengah and Cisolok sub-districts with positive rabies cases on dogs and humans. The blood samples were taken from 191 selected dogs using simple random sampling. Rabies antibody titer was measured using ELISA, and the risk factor was identified using selected dogs’ data classified into intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and the calculation of the odds ratio. The results showed that the seroprevalence of rabies was 7.9% (4.9-10.9%). The average antibody titer was 0.23 EU with a minimum value of 0.03 EU and a maximum of 0.96 EU. Thus, as high as 7.8% of the population showed rabies seropositivity from the unvaccinated dogs, while among the vaccinated dogs, only 8.0% of the population with rabies protective antibody titer. The significant risk factor of rabies seroprevalence is the typology of raising area (p = 0.003), revealing that the dogs raised in the coastal area had the odds of 5.8 (1.6-21.2) higher to get the rabies seropositivity than the dogs raised in the highland area. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi hasil vaksinasi rabies dan membandingkan kenaikan titer antibodi yang terbentuk di Kecamatan Cisolok dan Jampang Tengah sebagai Kawasan endemik rabies Kabupaten Sukabumi dan mengasosiasikan titer antibodi yang terbentuk dengan umur, jenis kelamin, dan cara pemeliharaan anjing yang diperiksa . Sebanyak 211 anjing diamati pada studi ini. Sampel serum prevaksinasi dan pascavaksinasi diambil dan selanjutnya diuji dengan uji ELISA tidak langsung untuk mengetahui titer antibodinya. Data titer antibodi dari masing-masing sampel dianalisis secara deskriptif, sedangkan asosiasi umur, jenis kelamin, dan cara pemeliharaan dengan titer antibodi yang terbentuk pascavaksinasi dihitung menggunakan uji chi-square. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan seroprevalensi rabies di Kecamatan Cisolok dan Jampang Tengah sebelum vaksinasi adalah 17,3% dan 2,6% dengan titer 0,58 EU/mL dan 0,55 EU/mL, sedangkan seroprevalensi setelah vaksinasi menjadi 62,5% dan 93% dengan titer 1,29 EU/mL dan 1,33 EU/mL. Variabel umur, jenis kelamin, dan cara pemeliharaan tidak berasosiasi nyata dengan peningkatan titer antibodi rabies setelah vaksinasi. Hasil studi menyimpulkan bahwa seroprevalensi rabies di kawasan endemik rabies di Kabupaten Sukabumi meningkat setelah dilakukan vaksinasi dari sebelumnya 11% menjadi 75,8%, dengan nilai peningkatan titer (Δ titer) sebesar 1,09 EU/mL.

Abstract

Rabies is an infectious disease, zoonotic, caused by virus from the genus Lyssa virus and generally transmitted by the bite of rabid animal, especially rabies infected dog. Rabies is preventable but is always fatal to humans if the central nervous system (CNS) is infected. Vaccination has been used as one of rabies prevention programmed. A total of 83 samples were tested using an Indirect ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) to identify post-vaccination rabies antibody titer. Antibody titres correlated with absorbance values and standard solutions concentrations. Absorbance value can be determined using ELISA reader and mobile phone camera. Absorbance were read at 450 nm and 620 nm as reference using ELISA reader and image from mobile phone camera using image processing software (ImageJ). The aim of this study is to compared between ELISA reader as gold standard and mobile phone camera through validity testing such sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy. There is no significant difference between gold standard and alternative test equipment. The mobile phone camera has sensitivity 98,6%, specificity 88.8 % and accuracy 97,5%. The image processing method using ELISA reader is relatively expensive and difficult to hold in laboratory with minimum funds. Image processing method using a mobile phone camera with ImageJ application is expected to be an alternative tool to read the result of ELISA.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari efektivitas beberapa jenis antibiotik terhadap Pasteurella multocida dan Mannheimia haemolityca dari sapi yang diduga menderita Bovine Rsepiratory Disease complex (BRD complex). Isolat diperoleh dari paru-paru sapi. Identifikasi bakteri menunjukkan adanya bakteri yang umum terlibat pada kasus BRD complex  seperti P. multocidadan M. haemolityca. Uji sensitivitas antimikroba dilakukan terhadap tujuh antibiotik (bacitracin, vancomicin, oxytetracycline, enrofloxacin, gentamicin, ampicillin, dan erythromycin) menggunakan metode Kirby-Bauer dengan mengukur diameter zona hambat. Interpretasi standar yang digunakan didasarkan pada Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa isolat P. multocida sensitif terhadap enrofloxacin, oxytetracycline, gentamicin, dan ampisilin; resisten terhadap bacitracin dan vankomisin; ke eritromisin. Abstract

Resistansi bakteri terhadap antimikrob telah menjadi permasalahan global. Pengujian resistansi antimikrob bakteri dari hewan penting dilakukan terutama dengan adanya resistansi antimikrob pada manusia yang diduga bersumber pada ternak. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis gambaran resistansi Escherichia coli (E. coli) yang diisolasi dari feses sapi terhadap berbagai antimikrob, yaitu aztreonam, basitrasin, sefpodoksim, enrofloksasin, fosfomisin, gentamisin, dan kloramfenikol. Uji resistansi antimikrob dilakukan menggunakan metode difusi cakram Kirby-Bauer. Hasil uji diinterpretasi menurut Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). Isolat E. coli asal feses sapi yang diperiksa resistan terhadap aztreonam (40%), sefpodoksim (40%), fosfomisin (50%), basitrasin (100%), dan gentamisin (10%). Isolat E. coli sebanyak 30% memiliki kepekaan intermediat terhadap fosfomisin. Seluruh isolat sensitif terhadap kloramfenikol (100%), dan sebagian besar sensitif terhadap enrofloksasin (90%) dan gentamisin (90%). Isolat E. coli yang resistan terhadap aztreonam dan sefpodoksim diduga berfenotip extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL). Pengobatan infeksi E. coli pada sapi harus memperhatikan gambaran resistansi isolat terhadap antimikrob.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is one of the common causes of bovine mastitis worldwide. Inappropriate use of antimicrobials in cattle farms contributes to the increase of the antimicrobial resistance of S. aureus. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial resistance profiles of S. aureus isolated from cattle milk. Twelve S. aureus isolated from cattle milk in Bogor, Indonesia, were tested against seven antimicrobials using Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion susceptibility test. The results revealed that 58.3 % of isolates were multidrug-resistant S. aureus. The S. aureus isolates were resistant to penicillin G (66.7 %), ampicillin (66.7 %), vancomycin (58.3 %), and bacitracin (58.3 %). Most of the isolates were susceptible to ciprofloxacin (91.7 %), gentamicin (66.7 %), and chloramphenicol (66.67 %). If clinically indicated, treatment of mastitis should consider the antimicrobial susceptibility of the causative agent.

Abstract

Background: Horses have played an essential role in human life for thousands of years, including for transportation, sports, consumption, and recreation. Because of the benefits of horses and their importance to humans, the effects of horse diseases can also affect humans. One of the most frequently diagnosed infectious diseases in horses worldwide is strangles caused by the beta-hemolytic bacterium Streptococcus equi subspecies equi. Objective: This review aims to collect the latest information on strangles, including the epidemiology, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of strangles globally and specifically in Indonesia. Results: Strangles cases have been reported sporadically in Indonesia. Laboratory diagnosis of strangles can be performed through bacteriological culture, PCR and serological tests. Streptococcus equi subspecies equi is susceptible to penicillins. Conclusion: Control of strangles can be conducted by applying biosecurity and vaccination. However, currently, there is no commercially available strangles vaccine in Indonesia.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengenalan dan pelatihan pembuatan eco enzyme pada peternak ayam dan ikan di Kabupaten Tapanuli Selatan, Sumatera Utara, bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan kemampuan para peternak dalam memanfaatkan limbah organik. Eco enzyme, yang dihasilkan dari fermentasi limbah organik seperti sisa buah dan sayuran, digunakan sebagai pupuk organik yang ramah lingkungan, desinfektan rumah tangga, maupun solusi sanitasi untuk peternakan. Program ini melibatkan penyuluhan dan pelatihan langsung kepada peternak ayam dan petani ikan, yang terbukti meningkatkan pengetahuan peserta tentang pembuatan dan aplikasi eco enzyme berdasarkan hasil pengetahuan pre test dan post test. Hasil dari kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat mendukung praktik peternakan yang berkelanjutan dan meningkatkan kesejahteraan ekonomi para peternak.
