Abstract

The grit theory, proposed by Duckworth et al. (2007 in Martin et al., 2022) emphasizes that persistence and passion for pursuing long-term goals are more crucial for achieving success than innate talent alone. In this study, Grade Point Average (GPA), a widely recognized indicator of student achievement, was selected as one of the key variables. The objective of this research was to assess the level of student grit and examine its relationship with academic performance at STKIP Muhammadiyah Aceh Barat Daya. A total of 136 students participated, comprising 75 English majors and 61 Mathematics majors. Participants were evaluated using the Duckworth Grit Scale, an 11-item assessment. Utilizing a quantitative correlational design, the study measured GPA and analyzed the data through Pearson correlation using SPSS. The findings revealed that the average level of grit among the 136 participants was moderate, with an average score of 40.10, translating to 40.1%. English majors scored an average grit level of 39.59 or 39.59 %, while Mathematics majors had an average grit level of 40.74 or 40.74 %. Moreover, the study established a significant correlation between Grit and Students’ Achievement (p < 0.001, r = 0.317). When analyzed separately, the correlation was weak among the 75 English students (p = 0.034, r = 0.245), while the 61 Mathematics students exhibited a moderate correlation (p < 0.001, r = 0.422). In conclusion, this study confirms that persistence is positively correlated with GPA, underscoring its importance in academic achievement.

Abstract

Students' low species literacy and plant awareness towards plants are problems in learning biology, especially regarding local plant diversity. One alternative to overcome these problems is developing contextual learning media sourced from local plants. This study aims to develop and test the feasibility of e-pocket book media for Angiosperms diversity in Ghimbo Pomuan Indigenous Forest, Kampar, Riau, Indonesia, as an innovative solution for contextual and local wisdom-based taxonomy learning. The development of this e-pocket book uses the Lee & Owens multimedia development model with the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The validation results by material experts, media, and practitioners showed that the e-pocket book was classified as very valid, with an average score of 95.00% and 95.23%. The practicality test by students showed an average score of 9.00% in the convenience category. The effectiveness test showed an increase in species literacy and plant awareness in the experimental class with N-Gain values of 0.6621 and 0.6403, respectively, in the medium category, much higher than the control class. These results indicate that the e-pocket book improves species literacy and plant awareness. This media can support biology education that is contextual, relevant, and aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 15.

Abstract

So far, cognitive style-based critical thinking, collaborative, and communication skills have yet to be utilized optimally. Additionally, there has been no research on optimizing 21st-century skills in cognitive style through the implementation of Figma Contextual Teaching Learning Learning Media (Figma-CTLLM). The research aims to optimize critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills based on reflective and impulsive cognitive styles by implementing Figma-CTLLM in Poaceae diversity learning. The type of research is quantitative descriptive research. The research subjects consisted of 26 students. Research instruments include MFFT sheets, critical thinking and communication skills in written form test sheets, and collaboration skills observation sheets, all of which had been validated and proven reliable for use. The data analysis technique was carried out descriptively and quantitatively in three stages. The research results showed that eight students had a reflective cognitive style, and eight had an impulsive one. The results of the analysis of each skill show that there is no significant difference in critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skill scores between students with a reflective and impulsive cognitive style. This is proven by the average percentage value for each skill in the same category, which is very high among students with a reflective cognitive style and impulsiveness. This was also confirmed by the Mann-Whitney U test for each skill with a significance value (p) above 0.05 (p>0.05). Based on the results, the implementation of figma-CTLLM can optimize critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills in students with reflective and impulsive cognitive styles in Poaceae diversity learning.

Abstract

Pedagogical competence is very necessary to improve the learning process. Pedagogical competency is a competency that prospective science teachers must have. This relates to the duties of teachers who are not only teachers, but also as educators and mentors of students. Prospective teachers need to have both academic and non-academic competencies. This research aims to analyze the pedagogical competence of prospective teachers in terms of their ability to prepare learning plans. The method used by researchers in this research is a project with a quantitative approach. The research results show that prospective science teacher students are able to design learning by implementing innovative learning models, utilizing relevant technology, with the hope of making it easier for students to understand the learning material
