Abstract

Since the occurrence of application-based taxi, phenomenon and resistance have emerged in metropolitan cities around the world. One of the main issues highlighted is digital collaborative consumption which emerges as the consequences of globalization. As an interpretive case study research, this paper aims to analyze the use of Uber as an alternative to public transportation in Taipei and Surabaya. Authors discuss the issue by comparing the reaction toward the occurrence of Uber and Taipei and Surabaya. Authors apply the theory from Hegre, Gissinger, & Gledtisch (2002) about globalization and social conflict to explain social issues as the consequences of digital collaborative consumption as the new consumption model. According to the theory, globalization creates a deprivation which makes the struggle to access source of capital become more intense. Poverty is the main generator of radical action and violence. Analyzing the phenomena of Uber usage and the resistance from traditional taxi businessmen in Taipei and Surabaya, the authors argue that globalization reflected on digital collaborative consumption could lead to social unrest for parties who cannot adapt to the changes in economic practice. As shown by many cases of app-based rejection taxi in public places such as airport, train station and bus station; the traditionalists show resistance towards globalization and the economic shift of public transportation business model.

Abstract

The first background of this research is the low participation of male vasectomy KB due to lack of information and low male contraceptive services. The second background of this research is Friedmann’s (2011) idea of citizen forum as transaction space which becomes communication media in the form of equal dialogue. This study aims to analyse the causes of low participation in the vasectomy method of family planning (KB) in South Lampung Regency; analyse the grassroots organisations in the community as the support system for a potential increase in the society’s participation in vasectomy as a part of family planning (KB); and develop a model of vasectomy to increase the participation in South Lampung Regency. This study utilised primary and secondary data which were collected and analysed using qualitative-descriptive method. The research was conducted in nine villages in South Lampung Regency. The findings showed that the major failure for participation in the vasectomy method of family planning (KB) was caused by a lack of a representative knowledge transaction space in family planning (KB) and reproductive health. On the other hand, the existing active societal-institutional support system can be utilised as the space for knowledge transaction. A solution to enhance a social participation model through community forums is urgently needed.

Abstract

Voter turnout in local elections (pilkada) is a participation indicator. The local election in 2015 was different from the local elections pre-2015, as the local election in 2015 was held simultaneously. Regional electoral commissions (KPUD) gave candidates campaign facilities like posters, banners, and debates with the other candidates on local television. This socialisation was expected to increase voter turnout. The purpose of this research to ascertain the level of voter turnout in the local election held in 2015 in Lamongan, and whether it is increasing or declining.KPUD has a new role not only to do with socialisation, but KPUD must also print campaign props in line with the fairness principles. The research methods used in this study were a survey and multistage random sampling for the sampling technique. The voter turnout in the 2015 local election was just 60.47% lower than the voter turnout of the 2014 legislative election(Pileg) that reached 71%. In the local election, the emotional bond between the voters and candidates is more powerful than that in a legislativeelection, but in the Lamongan local election 2015, it was not positively correlated. There are two main factors that influence the decrease of voter turnout. First, is the material orientation of the voters (sangu). If they do not get“Sangu”, they will not vote and they prefer to work in the fields. Voters thought that leaving their job for the election should get them substitution money. Second, was the indication of cartel politics, embracing all political parties in Lamongan Regency, for them to support the same candidate who was still on duty, namely Fadeli, and two other candidates. The level of voter turnout is influenced by the material orientation of the voters and cartel politics.

Abstract

Rape to girls is categorized as violence that continuously happened. This research looks at the sexual harrasement phenomena from the perpetrator’s point of view. Many cases indicate that the subject often has close connection with the victims such as neighbour, relative, teacher, grandfather, father, or even young underage male surrounding the victims. It means that both victims and the subjects are psychologically immature but for several reasons they have to involve in a situation which destruct their future. Therefore, there is a need to frame various factors that drive the subject for doing sexual harrasement. By using materials on the newspaper, this research employs qualitative-descriptive method that purposively uses Jawa Pos news as single resource of the data. The result shows that particular places affect the subject in conducting their action. There are four places that are usually used as a site of sexual harrasement. First is in the area that is hidden and safe from observations of the surrounding environment, especially in the victim's home. Second, other areas prone to the occurrence of acts of rape are zones completely open and away from the reach of community control, such as on the streets, in public places, in a quiet courtyard, at the cemetery, and so on. Third, the place is usually chosen to rape, one of them is in school. Fourth, in the region in the eyes of the public is viewed as an area of "gray" and was common permissive life, such as in a hotel or inn.

Abstract

Kebonan Village, Semarang Regency, Central Java is the region with the highest number of diarrhea cases. Based on the profile of Puskesmas Regency/City Semarang in 2014, there were 84 findings of diarrhea cases. The initial observation revealed that living environment in Kebonan village was not hygiene. Most of the times, the ditch loaded by garbage, the food often surrounded by flies, people often do not wash their hands after completing their daily activities, and there are houses that still have no latrines. These behaviors were not in accordance with the Clean and Healthy Behavior, thus estimated as the main cause of high cases of diarrhea in Kebonan. This situation was in opposition with Government socialization to local residents about Clean and Healthy Behavior (Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat/PHBS). Therefore, the problem identified in this research is the failure of government programs through the Department of Health in disseminating the importance of PHBs which resulting in the high number of diarrhea. The aim of this study is to describe the perception of citizens about the PHBS in Kebonan Village, Semarang. This study used the qualitative method with the descriptive design. Researcher employs primary and secondary data. Primary data collected through in-depth interviews with residents of Kebonan, while secondary data was gathered through observations. Data validity was further tested through member-checking method. The research concludes that the perception of Kebonan residents on PHBs are divided into three aspects: realizing the physical and environmental cleanliness, who is responsible for realizing PHBs, and constraints in realizing PHBS. Citizen roles to keep the environment clean, manage domestic waste, use a proper toilet, washing hand and bathing, and keeping female organ hygiene are essential in creating a good and clean living environment.
