Abstract

Given the myriads of possible configurations within online learning, careful design and selection of technology and media that count the students' needs and conditions should be at the central attention of the developers in order to accommodate the students' needs and to avoid developing ineffective and unproductive online learning. This study aims at analyzing the needs of the students in the online English language learning at the Intensive Foreign Language Learning Program, Alauddin State Islamic University, Makassar. This study used developmental research. Purposively sampled, 70 respondents participated in this study including 50 students, 10 lecturers, and 10 graduates. Two types of information were analyzed namely the students’ language learning needs and the students’ perceptions of technology and media for their online learning. The findings can be the basis for developing sound online language learning in the program, considering the absence of any research-based online learning there.

Abstract

Character building has become one of the government's program priorities through the mental revolution movement. The goal is to create a new mentality for the nation that is more productive, competitive and prosperous. This study aims to reveal the meaning and cultural values ​​contained in Muna folk songs as a model for building superior characters. Nine folk songs were collected as the object of this study entitled Daesalo Nekakawasa, O'Tampo, Witeno Wuna, Kaninindo Kamokula, O'Raha, Tongkuno, Damekatahi Liwu, O'Wuna, and Dapo Angka-Angkatao. The results indicate that the meanings and cultural values ​​contained in the songs are the existence of God, the Spirit of Building the Nation, Obedience to parents words. These values ​​and meanings can then be used to form superior characters, including forming religious, nationalist, mutual cooperation, and solidarity characters.

Abstract

one of which is giving a title to the groom which is called the "Batagak gala" tradition. The formulation of the problem in this research is how is the existence of the "Batagak gala" tradition of Minangkabau society in the modernization era. The purpose of the study was to find out how the existence of the "batagak gala" tradition of the Minangkabau community in the modernization era in Olo Village, Nanggalo District, Padang City, West Sumatra. The data analysis technique in this study used a qualitative method with an ethnographic study approach. The results in this study explain that the "Batagak gala marapulai" tradition has undergone changes, including: the implementation time is not limited anymore, the place of implementation where the "Batagak gala" tradition

Abstract

The covid-19 virus spreads rapidly through transmission, making it difficult for even developed countries to control. Indonesia is experiencing difficulties mitigating the Covid-19 pandemic due to its large population and remote location. The purpose of this article is to examine the local wisdom in the Bugis-Makassar community in Makassar, which helps prevent the transmission of covid-19. Local wisdom is a way of understanding life and knowledge and combining it with strategies that the local community uses to solve different problems and meet their needs.As a consequence of the ancestral heritage of the Bugis-Makassar community related to the environment, they have accumulated a great deal of local wisdom about diseases prevention and treatment. By applying local wisdom in the community, each individual becomes accustomed to and forms his character by being limited and regulated by local wisdom.

Abstract

Penelitian ini ingin menganalisis tipe kepribadian Budur dalam Novel Zinah karya Nawal Al-Sa’dawi. Novel ini sangat kental dengan nuansa feminismenya, nuansa perjuangan dan pemberontakannya. Lebih dari itu, novel ini juga sarat dengan aspek kejiwaan. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian pustaka atau library research dengan mengikuti prosedur dan prinsip kerja penelitian kualitatif. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan metode simak, sedangkan analisis data menggunakan metode deskriptif analitis. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tokoh Budur digambarkan taat pada agama, patuh pada aturan dan norma-norma kekeluargaan. Ia sangat patuh pada suaminya walaupun ia sering mendapat kekerasan. Budur digambarkan sebagai tokoh yang tertindas. Peran tokoh Budur sebagai tokoh protagonis, sedangkan tipe kepribadiannya merupakan pribadi yang penakut, ragu-ragu, sulit mengambil keputusan, pembenci dan pendendam, namun di sisi lain tokoh Budur juga digambarkan sebagai tokoh yang pemberani, dan berpegang teguh pada pendiriannya. Abstract

This writing will examine the influence of English syntactic elements on the use of the Indonesian language by Afghan immigrants. This research is qualitative, that is researchers who are trying to obtain accurate data about the Indonesian structure of phrases and sentences of Afghan immigrants and analyzing the elements of Indonesian syntax of Afghan immigrants. The data collection in this research is library research and field research. The results of this research indicate that the Indonesian syntax of Afghan immigrants is influenced by English syntax, both at the phrase and sentence level. The finding of this research is English has the same sentence patterns as Indonesian, id est Subject + Predicate + Object. Indonesian sentence structure of Afghan immigrants always uses a copula verb between the subject and the complement, while the Indonesian sentence structure of Afghanistan Immigrants is patterned M (Menerangkan/explaining) – D (Diterangkan/explained) following the English phrases pattern.

Abstract

This paper aims to explain the Mattoana Arajang Tradition in Bonto Village,  Sinjai Tengah District, Sinjai Regency (In a Cultural Perspective), specifically about how the existence of the Mattoana Arajang tradition in Bonto Village, Sinjai Tengah District, Sinjai Regency. It is a qualitative research using historical, anthropological, sociological and religious approaches. Abstract

This study aims to map the form of directive speech acts used in Pepi Al-Bayqunie's novel Calabai. The type of research is descriptive qualitative that uses two approaches, namely a theoretical approach and a methodological approach. The research data is in the form of fragments of speech in a novel that contains symptoms of speech acts. The data comes from a novel entitled Calabai by Pepi Al-Bayqunie. This novel with a thickness of 383 pages was written based on the true story of bissu in Pangkep Regency, South Sulawesi Province. The results showed that there were 10 forms of directive speech acts in Pepi Al-Bayqunie's novel Calabai, namely ordering, advising, ordering, pleading, recommending, reprimanding, forbidding, inviting, asking, and criticizing. Among all these forms, the form of advising is the most common. This means that calabai is synonymous with advising others.

Abstract

This research is pragmatic research that aims to (1) classify the types of hedges used by Donald Trump in press conferences related to Covid-19; (2) find initial assumptions or presuppositions against hedges used by Donald Trump at press conferences related to Covid-19; (3) find the true meaning of implicatures in the hedges used by Donald Trump at press conferences related to Covid-19. The figure whose words are the object of this research is the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump at a press conference to the Covid-19. Trump is a representative of world leaders where the leaders of a country should no longer convey hedges to their people who need certainty. The research results in this thesis include the types of hedges Adverbials (40 data), Epistemic (5 data), Modal Verb (20 data), Cognition Verb (89 data) Hypothetical (126 data), and Anticipatory (14 data).

Abstract

This paper aims to deconstruct the leadership of Karaeng Pattingalloang. as the center of leadership and the roles of subordinates around it. The presence of Karaeng Pattinggaloang has also undergone a process of meaning and has become the value of leadership itself. This research also uses descriptive research and then analyzes it. Data was collected from various sources of literature study. This data is managed to be analyzed to find the meaning of the drama text Karaeng Pattingalloang. The results show that there is a leader-subordinate binary opposition. This hierarchical binary opposition is then disassembled by deconstructing readings so that the angle that is considered to be the bottom position of the first binary shows that the two support each other. Leadership does not stand alone. Instead, subordinates have a central role to support leadership.
