Abstract

Background: The low level of student participation in the learning process is often attributed to the use of methods that fail to engage students' interest. This issue underscores the need for innovative approaches in teaching to enhance student engagement, one of which involves the utilization of animated video media, which has the potential to create more engaging learning experiences.Aim: This study aims to explore and describe the impact of using animated video media as a learning tool on the numeracy skills of elementary school students.Method: This research adopts a quantitative approach, where the data collected is numerical and analyzed using statistical methods. The study population consisted of 48 students from an elementary school in the Lalang area, Sungai Apit District. The sample comprised 31 students, divided into two classes, selected through random sampling techniques. Data collection was conducted through direct observation in collaboration with the classroom teacher. Data analysis involved normality tests, homogeneity tests, and an independent sample T-test.Result: The findings of this study indicate an improvement in students' numeracy skills through the use of animated video media. This improvement is evident from the comparison of pretest and posttest scores, where the experimental class demonstrated an increase of 28.67 compared to the control class.Conclusion: The use of animated videos positively impacts mathematics learning outcomes and contributes to enhancing the numeracy skills of elementary school students.

Abstract

Puspose: This study aims to develop a modified Conditional Random Recursive Central Tendency Filter (CRRCTF) with a fixed-size window to effectively address the challenges of salt-and-pepper impulse noise, particularly under high noise density conditions, while preserving critical image details.Method: The proposed approach is divided into three main phases: (1) detecting noisy pixels through a statistical thresholding mechanism, (2) applying pre-edge filtering to retain edge details, and (3) restoring noisy pixels using a central tendency-based recursive process. Quantitative evaluations were conducted using standard image datasets as well as SAR and optical satellite images to assess the method's robustness.Findings: Experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed filter, achieving average PSNR and SSIM values of 31.88 and 0.896, respectively, across noise densities ranging from 10 percent to 90 percent. For satellite images, the method achieved PSNR and SSIM values of 29.37 and 0.8096 for SAR images and 19.51 and 0.605 for optical images at an 80 percent noise density.Significance: The proposed CRRCTF method outperforms existing denoising algorithms in terms of image restoration quality, particularly under extreme noise conditions, making it a valuable tool for image preprocessing applications in both research and practical scenarios.

Abstract

Purpose: This research investigates how high school students approach three-dimensional geometry problems by considering differences in cognitive styles (impulsive and reflective) and levels of mathematical ability. The aim is to understand the variations in problem-solving strategies based on Polya’s stages, which include understanding the problem, planning, executing, and reviewing the solution. Method: A descriptive qualitative method was used with a comparative case study design. Four students were selected through purposive sampling, each representing a unique combination of cognitive style and mathematical ability. Data collection involved problem-solving tests and semi-structured interviews. The analysis focused on tracing the students’ reasoning and decision-making processes throughout each stage of problem solving. Findings: The results show that students with a reflective cognitive style tend to be more thorough when planning and reviewing their work. Impulsive students, on the other hand, often rush through the process, resulting in errors, although those with high mathematical ability can still demonstrate effective strategies and occasionally correct their mistakes. Students with stronger mathematical ability generally show better visualization, abstraction, and accuracy in applying geometric concepts. Significance: These findings suggest the need for instructional strategies that are sensitive to students’ cognitive profiles. Teaching approaches that emphasize structured reflection and scaffolding may enhance geometry learning outcomes, especially for students who tend to act impulsively.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to find a closed-form solution for all ordered pairs of natural numbers (?,?) satisfying the consecutive natural number sum equation 1 + 2 + ⋯ + ? sama dengan (? + 1) + (? + 2) + ⋯ + ?. This research contributes to number theory, particularly in the context of Diophantine equations.Method: The problem is solved analytically using Pythagorean triple theory and Pell's Theorem, which provides a rigorous mathematical framework for deriving solutions.Findings: The study reveals that there are infinitely many ordered pairs (?,?) of natural numbers that satisfy the equation. Furthermore, the solutions can be expressed in closed-form expressions for (??,??), where ? anggota ?, as follows:and Additionally, the ratio ??/?? approaches 1/akar2 as ? tends to infinity.Significance: The closed-form solutions provided in this study not only enhance our understanding of the consecutive natural number sum equation but also open avenues for further research in number theory fields, especially involving Diophantine equations. The findings have potential applications in theoretical and applied mathematics.

Abstract

Background: Spatial employment modeling investigates employment distribution, patterns, influencing factors, neighboring area impact, and regional policy efficacy. Conventional studies often rely on traditional data sources, which may overlook critical employment-related phenomena. In 2022, Java recorded the lowest labor absorption rate in Indonesia, necessitating a new approach.Aim: This study combines imagery, crowdsourced data, and official statistics to identify factors influencing labor absorption in Java Island.Method: Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) was employed to account for spatial effects in the data.Results: The model reveals that nighttime light intensity in urban and agricultural areas, along with environmental quality, significantly enhances labor absorption across Java. Internet facilities, universities, and the number of micro and small industries also positively influence most districts/cities.Conclusion: Incorporating new data sources offers valuable insights for understanding employment patterns and can enrich employment research frameworks.

Abstract

Background: Reversible thinking, the ability to think bidirectionally, is a crucial component of mathematical problem-solving. Differences in cognitive styles, particularly field-dependent and field-independent characteristics, play a significant role in students' reversible thinking, necessitating a deeper exploration of these relationships.Aim: This study aims to describe students' reversible thinking processes in solving mathematical problems based on their cognitive styles, focusing on field-dependent and field-independent traits.Method: A qualitative descriptive approach was applied to 32 eighth-grade students from a junior high school in Malang City, Indonesia. Data were collected using the Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT), a reversible thinking test, and semi-structured interviews. Students were categorized into field-dependent and field-independent groups using GEFT before undertaking a reversible thinking test. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to gain deeper insights into their problem-solving approaches.Results: The findings indicate that students with field-independent cognitive styles exhibit better performance in the aspects of negation and reciprocity. They carefully apply problem-solving strategies, consistently reverting to initial values after achieving correct solutions. Conversely, students with field-dependent cognitive styles are more prone to errors, particularly in changing operation signs and applying the concept of reciprocal equivalence.Conclusion: This study highlights significant differences in reversible thinking between students with field-dependent and field-independent cognitive styles. The results suggest the need for tailored teaching methods to enhance reversible thinking based on cognitive styles. Further research is recommended to explore barriers and additional factors influencing reversible thinking.

Abstract

Background: Mathematical representation skills are essential for understanding and applying mathematical concepts. However, many students struggle to connect abstract concepts to real-life situations, making it difficult for them to improve their representation skills.Aim: This study aims to develop and test the effectiveness of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach, supported by scaffolding, in improving students' mathematical representation skills.Method: The study followed the ADDIE model, which includes five steps: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The participants were 50 second-semester students from classes A, C, and D in the Mathematics Education program at UIN Raden Intan Lampung.Results: The development of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) model with scaffolding was validated by eight expert validators, confirming its validity and practicality. The model was designed to align with learning objectives, incorporate real-world contexts, and provide structured scaffolding tailored to students’ needs. During implementation, the model demonstrated practicality as students actively engaged with learning activities and gradually developed independence in problem-solving. The effect size calculation of 0.9, categorized as high, confirmed the model’s effectiveness in significantly enhancing students' mathematical representation skills.Conclusion: The RME approach with scaffolding is an effective method to improve the quality of mathematics learning in higher education. It helps students better understand and apply mathematical concepts by linking them to practical problems.

Abstract

Background: Improving self-efficacy is essential for student success in mathematics, especially in complex topics like transformation geometry. Incorporating ethnomathematics into instructional modules provides a meaningful connection between mathematical concepts and cultural contexts, which can enhance student engagement and confidence.Aim: This research focuses on developing a teaching module grounded in ethnomathematics to foster self-efficacy among Class XI high school students in transformation geometry. The study also evaluates the module's validity and practicality.Method: Using the ADDIE framework (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) within a Research and Development (R&D) approach, the study utilized expert validation sheets to assess content and design quality. Practicality was measured through teacher and student feedback collected via questionnaires. Data were analyzed through qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods.Results: Expert reviews on content and design yielded an average score of 86, indicating the module's strong validity. Feedback from teachers and students produced an average score of 85.72, demonstrating the module's high level of practicality.Conclusion: The ethnomathematics-based module is validated as both effective and practical, making it a valuable resource for improving self-efficacy in transformation geometry.

Abstract

Background: The lack of learning media based on computational thinking (CT) for high school students, especially in the material arithmetic sequences and series, is one of the causes of students' low CT skills.Aim: This research was conducted to develop learning media in the form of electronic student worksheets on the material of arithmetic series and sequences to improve CT skills by utilizing electronic worksheets media.Method: This research employs the R&D method using the Tessmer development model. The research subjects are grade X students from a public high school in Palembang, selected through purposive sampling. The electronic student worksheets were validated by material and media experts and assessed for practicality by teachers and students.Result: The validation value of the developed CT-based Electronic Student Worksheets reached 95.47%, while the practicality assessment of CT-based Electronic Student Worksheets based on the questionnaire obtained a value of 89.97%.Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the developed CT-based electronic student worksheets the valid and practical criteria to be used in learning to improve CT skills and understanding of arithmetic sequences and series material for high school students.

Abstract

Background: Teachers continue to face challenges in applying Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) in classroom settings. Many mathematics teachers, in particular, lack adequate preparation and mastery of the three core components of TPACK.Aim: This study aims to investigate and analyze differences in TPACK proficiency among mathematics teachers based on their teaching experience and certification status.Method: Adopting a mixed-method approach with a sequential explanatory design, the study involved 65 Islamic Junior and Senior High School mathematics teachers in Palu City, selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Additionally, four teachers were interviewed to gain deeper insights. The instruments used included TPACK questionnaires and structured interview guidelines.Results: The findings revealed no significant differences in TPACK proficiency between certified and non-certified mathematics teachers. While teachers demonstrated a solid understanding of content and appropriate teaching methods, they seldom incorporated technology into their instruction. Furthermore, teaching experience showed no substantial impact on TPACK proficiency. Junior teachers were observed to have better familiarity with technology, while senior teachers exhibited greater adaptability in managing diverse classroom situations.Conclusion: Certification status and teaching experience do not significantly influence TPACK proficiency among mathematics teachers. The primary barrier to integrating technology lies in limited access to adequate facilities. Continued professional development initiatives are essential to enhance teachers' technological competencies and their integration into classroom practices.
