Abstract

The video-based on local wisdom and ethnobiology in Komodo Island is a learning media that utilizes the Komodo Island society’s local knowledge in the utilization of natural resources to fulfill the daily needs and social efforts in nature conservation. This video applied as learning media that can bring out one of the characteristics of conservation, which is the attitude of caring for the environment. This study is aimed to analyze the feasibility and effectiveness of video that is based on local wisdom and ethnobiology in Komodo Island as a learning media in the study of PLH. Based on the result of observation in SMA 1 Bae Kudus, it needs a learning media that is based on local wisdom and ethnobiology in sustainable development subject matter and environmental pollution to help students in the learning process. This study was a Research and Development study by using one group pretest-posttest design which is done in the tenth-grade students in SMA 1 Bae Kudus. The samples were from X MIPA 3 Class and X MIPA 2 Class. The result of video eligibility obtained an average value of 90.2% with very decent criteria, its comes from media validation which obtained a value of 90,83 % with very valid and material validation which obtained a value of 72,92 % with very valid. The result of the video effectiveness comes from students learning outcomes and conservation attitudes. The students learning outcomes based on the calculation of N-gain which obtained a percentage of 86,11% with medium to high criteria and classical completeness which obtained a percentage of 86.11% calculated from the posttest value reaching ≥75% of the total number of students accepted by KKM 75 and conservation attitude obtain an average yield of observers, friends and themselves at 83.79% with very high criteria. Students and teachers gave a good response to videos based on local wisdom and ethnobiology in Komodo Island. Students recycle household waste. Based on this, it can be concluded that the video based on local wisdom and ethnobiology in Komodo Island is feasible and effective as a learning media in PLH subjects.

Abstract

Activity-based books contain features that emphasize students’ activity, therefore suitable for Invertebrate learning, because have material characteristics that require practical activities. The purpose of this study was to produce activity-based textbooks on Animalia-Invertebrate material, which valid, practical, and easy to be used by senior high school 10th grade students. Meanwhile, the specific purposes of this research were to describe the validity of instructional textbook based on content, linguistic, and presentation validity; to describe the practicality of activity-based book based on the implementation of learning, book readability of textbooks using Fry chart; and to describe the student's response to the ease of use of activity-based textbooks on Animalia-Invertebrate materials by senior high school 10th grade students. This research was conducted from August 2017 until March 2018. This developmental research was referred to 4D model (define, design, develop, and disseminate), but disseminate stage was not done. The development of textbooks was conducted in the Biology department of UNESA and limited trials were conducted on 20 students of SMAN 12 Surabaya class of 10th MIA 2. Validation, practically based on implementation and readability, and student’s responses were analyzed descriptive-quantitatively. The results showed that the developed textbooks got a very decent category mode. The percentage of textbook implementation was 100% and the textbook readability was at the level of legibility of 10. In addition, the students gave positive responses, the average score was 99.74% (positive category). Hence, it can be concluded that the textbook was valid, practical, and easy to be used for Biology learning.

Abstract

Environmental condition has become increasingly fragile in recent decades. Concern for the environment can help restore environmental condition. Therefore, environmental care is a character that must be implemented by school at each educational level. Sekolah Indonesia Kota Kinabalu (SIKK) has functioned as the center point and become the main/coordinator school for education service Indonesian children in Sabah, Malaysia. It was supposed that people of SIKK become the role model and example for them who take on education in a community learning center in the whole Sabah and Serawak, Malaysia in building the character of environmental care on students.This research aimed to describe the way of character building of environmental care on student in SIKK, Malaysia. This study is a case study which focuses on the way of character building of environmental care on student in SIKK, Malaysia. The data collection uses interviews, observation, and documentation. Then, tested using triangulation process.The result shows that SIKK has made policy which is related to environmental care, made a habit of caring for the environment, held various activities which is related to environmental care, and giving appropriate proponent facilities for character building of environmental care. Yet, still there are some factors which impede the process of student character building on environmental care in SIKK among internal factor in the form of student awareness, and external factor in the form of family factor and surrounding people.Based on the explanation, it can be concluded that SIKK has made an effort to instill the character of caring for the environment in various ways. The obstacle factor in student character building on environmental care included internal factor and external factor. Inhibiting factors can be overcome by positive reinforcement of the teacher toward students and holding monitoring and evaluation meetings related to the development of student behavior together with parents of students.

Abstract

These days, critical thinking skills is one of competency that should be developed in students. Critical thinking skills is the ability of a person spotting condition or phenomenon and able to provide judgment according to their prior knowledge. School as an educational organizer has an important role in nurturing and evaluating students critical thinking skills through teaching-learning activity. Critical thinking skills can be developed by using learning methods, learning models, and evaluation in learning activity. This study capturing how the critical thinking skills of Mungkid 1 Public Senior High School 11th grade students in animal tissue topic. This study is a qualitative study with analysis method. Data of this study was taken using observation, interview, test, and questionnaire. The result shows that 53,62% of students belong to low critical thinking skills category due to lacking of variety learning method in the teaching-learning activity (using conventional method instead of variety of models). Also the questions given to the students didn’t support critical thinking skills approach.

Abstract

This research and development aiment to: 1) find out the module development products based on the SSCS model to train critical thinking skills in body defense system material, 2) find out the feasibility of developing module based on the SSCS model to train critical thinking skills in body defens system material. The research and development were carried out using procedures according to Borg and Gall (2003) which were limited to the 7 th stage of the ten stages. Data analysis techniques used qualitative descriptive analysis technique and quantitative analysis. The result of the research and development showed that 1) module product based on the SSCS model were developed based on facione’s critical thinking ability thinking aspects (2015) which visualized the objectives, material, activities and evalution questions. 2) module feasibility viewed from the result of validation including material expert validation got an average of 75,4 % with good quality, media experts got an average of 68,8% with good quality, evaluation experts got a men of 74,4 % with good quality, linguistists and readability got q mean of 78,37 % with good quality, validation of Biology education practitioners got an average of 96,5 % with very good qualfications and validation of students with an average of 84,7 % got very good qualifications. Based on the overall percentage it could be conclude that the module was feasible to use

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of problem-based learning model to improve critical thinking skills and Natural Sciences learning achievement in soil material. This study was classroom action research. The subject of the study was students at the IXA grade of Junior High School 21 Semarang in the academic year of 2018-2019. This class action research was conducted into 2 cycles, each cycle had 2 meetings. The stages of each cycle consisted of planning, taking action (acting), observing the action (observing), and analyzing the data on the results of observing the action (reflecting). The data collection technique was written test, consisting of multiple-choice tests to measure cognitive aspects and description questions to measure critical thinking skills. The data analysis of this study was a comparative descriptive technique, followed by a critical analysis of comparative descriptive results by reflecting. The result of this study showed that the implementation of problem-based learning model can improve critical thinking skills and natural science learning achievement at the IXA grade of Junior High School 21 Semarang in the academic year of 2018-2019 in soil material. This can be seen from the achievement of critical thinking skills that have increased from pre-cycle, cycle 1 and cycle 2. The average result of critical thinking skills achieved in the pre-cycle was70.83, at the end of cycle 1 was 79.86, and at the end of cycle 2 was 86.76. The lowest value of critical thinking skills in the pre-cycle was 54.00, at the end of cycle 1 was 65.00, and at the end of cycle 2 was 73.00. The highest value of critical thinking skills in the pre-cycle was 80.00, at the end of cycle 1 was 87.00, and at the end of cycle 2 was 93.00. The cognitive aspect of learning achievement achieved in pre-cycle with the lowest value was 52.00, in cycle 1 was 60.00, and in cycle 2 increased to 68.00. The highest pre-cycle value was 88.00, cycle 1 was 92.00, then cycle 2 increased to 96.00. The average grade in the pre-cycle was 74.07, in cycle 1 increased to 79.72, and cycle 2 increased to 84.97. The number of students who scored at least 75 in the pre-cycle was 72.4%, cycle 1 was 79.3% and cycle 2 was 93.1%.

Abstract

Students’ learning interest still needs to be improved, one of the solutions is using the field trip method in a potential learning environment. Surabaya Zoo is a potential learning environment through real objects. The research aimed to produce Integrated Worksheet Based on a Field Trip and describe it’s validity and practicality. This research was developed used 4D models, without the disseminate stage. The development of the worksheet was conducted in September 2019 to May 2020 at the Biology Department of FMIPA Unesa, while validation and practicality data were collected in May 2020. Validation was carried out by three experts, while practicality was collected through respondents consisting of 5 educational practitioners and 22 students of 10th grade high school. The Grasha-Riechmann questionnaire survey was also conducted to determine students' feelings and attitudes through their learning styles. The results showed the validity of the Integrated Worksheet Based on a Field Trip got a score of 4 (very valid) while the practitioner's responses showed the value of mode 4 (very practical) and the results of the students' responses showed an average positive response rate of 91.08% (very good). Based on those results the Integrated Worksheet Based on a Field Trip was declared to be very practical so it’s appropriate to use. The most common learning styles among the students according to the Grasha-Riechmann questionnaire were Participant (45.5%) and Collaborative (31.8%).

Abstract

This research was aimed to analyze the advisability and the effectiveness of “RESENDS” research-based teaching material supplement in improving the learning outcomes and fostering the students’ reproductive health care. This research was conducted by using research and developmental methods (R&D) which refered to the modified Sugiyono (2013) steps. The result of this research showed that the advisability of “RESENDS” research-based teaching material material was very decent (material validity 90.65%, media validity 99.2%, students’ reponses 89%, teacher responses 96.7%). “RESENDS” research-based teaching material supplement was effevtive in improving the students’ learning outcomes and their care attitudes. It was proved by the percentage of students’ classical completeness that had achieved the KKM ≥ 72 was 87.9%. As many as 12% of the total students belonged to high criteria of caring attitude and 88% of the total students belonged to very high criteria. The conclusion of this research was “RESENDS” research-based teaching material supplement was decent, valid, and effective in the biological study of reproductive system material.

Abstract

A survey of 612 students in one of the high schools in the city of Semarang is found 177 shisha smokers. Based on the results of the survey, students haven’t known the effects and harmful contents of the shisha which they consumed. The use of supplement based on research could increase student knowledge about the dangers of shisha. Manufacture of products based on research data. Learning resources developed are supplement. The appropriateness of product is carried out by the media validator and material validator. Furthermore, the products were tested on 34 students, namely grade XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kutowinangun. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and written tests. The data analysis method is quantitative descriptive. Based on the results of product validation which it showed very valid. Scores from material experts is 84% ​​and media experts is 98%. The readability test results in the form of teacher and student responses showed incrasing results. The effectiveness of supplement is profed by the scores obtained on motivation scores in before and after learning which increased by 4% with an average percentage in after learning is 77%. Student learning outcomes that have achieved KKM value showed 76,5% and the average N-gain was 0.66 in the medium category. This shows that supplement based on research are effective for increasing motivation and student learning outcomes in high school.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the group investigation model's effectiveness with a Jelajah Alam Sekitar (JAS) approach to the metacognitive skills of high school students. This research was conducted at SMA N 1 Bumiayu in the even semester of the 2019/2020 school year. The research design was a Pre-experimental type of One-Group Pre-test-Post-test Design. All students of Class X MIPA SMA N 1 Bumiayu as the population of this research. This research sample was the students of Class X MIPA 1 and 2 taken by a purposive random sampling technique. The results showed that the metacognitive skills of students averaged a score of 75.19, which was in the good criteria. Journal analysis of student learning activities shows that 81.94% has medium criteria. Metacognitive ability test results have an average score of 73.13 in the good criteria. Students' cognitive ability to achieve classical completeness is 79.19%, and the level of students' understanding of the material based on the results of the N-gain test is at the medium criteria. The correlation between metacognitive abilities using a questionnaire with cognitive abilities showed no significant relationship with a large correlation coefficient of 0.018 (very low). On the other side, the correlation of metacognitive skills using tests with cognitive abilities showed a significant relationship with a large correlation coefficient of 0.495 (medium). Students and teachers gave positive responses to the group investigation learning model with a natural exploration approach. The conclusion of this research is the application of a group investigation learning model with a JAS around effectively the metacognitive skills of high school students on Animalia material.
