Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of dance activities in improving physical fitness based on a review of recent literature. The method employed is a systematic literature review of various empirical studies related to dance activities and components of physical fitness. The findings indicate that dance activities significantly contribute to improvements in cardiorespiratory capacity, muscle strength, flexibility, coordination, and body balance. Several studies report that structured dance exercises, such as Zumba, can significantly enhance aerobic endurance and dynamic balance. Furthermore, among the elderly, dance programs have been shown to effectively improve gait patterns, body stability, and muscle strength. Variations in dance types also influence fitness outcomes, with modern dance tending to have a greater impact compared to other forms, while traditional dance demonstrates advantages in certain contexts, even surpassing conventional exercises such as moderate jogging. Moreover, the integration of dance movements into fitness programs, such as traditional dance-based exercise routines, has proven effective in enhancing multiple components of physical fitness and holds strong potential for application in physical education. Overall, these findings confirm that dance can serve as an effective alternative or complement to conventional exercise, while also embodying cultural values that support the preservation of local wisdom

Abstract

The setter is the main tactical thinker in volleyball who can turn the team's uncertain reception into an effective attack based the quick perceptual and decision-making process of a setter. However, the research on the decision-making of a setter is still very limited and scattered among performance analysis, ecological dynamics, and sensing technologies. A systematic literature review was conducted to integrate the findings on perceptual-cognitive elements, attack distribution patterns, and contextual constraints that determine the behavior of elite volleyball setters. A search was done in Scopus with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines and a Boolean query, resulting in 466 records. After eliminating duplicates, screening, and assessment of eligibility, only 10 articles were selected for qualitative synthesis and evaluated with the FICO framework (Focus, Information, Context, Outcome). The results showed that the setter's decision-making is most of the time dependent on the spatiotemporal relations between setters, attackers, and blockers. Under normal side-out situations the attack distribution is largely directed to the middle and wing attackers. The quality of the opponent has less influence than the team's offensive strategy, while setting behavior is largely determined by the rule and task constraints. The review demonstrates that setter decision-making is fundamentally constrained by spatiotemporal affordances emerging from setter-attacker-blocker interactions. Findings support an ecological-dynamics interpretation of tactical expertise and highlight opportunities for integrating wearable sensing, social-network analysis, and machine learning approaches into future volleyball performance research.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of agility training on the dribbling ability of futsal extracurricular students at SMA Negeri 1 Lubuk Sikaping. The study was motivated by students’ low dribbling skills, including poor ball control and difficulty changing direction during play. A quasi-experimental method with a Two-Group Pretest–Posttest Design was used. The population consisted of 28 male students who participated in the futsal extracurricular program during the 2026/2027 academic year. Using total sampling, the students were divided into an experimental group and a control group, each consisting of 14 students. Data were collected using the Bobby Charlton Zig-Zag Dribbling Test and analyzed using t-tests with SPSS 26. The results showed that agility training significantly improved dribbling ability (t = 7.177; p < 0.05). The experimental group’s mean score improved from 20.30 seconds to 17.22 seconds. It was concluded that agility training effectively improves students’ dribbling ability.

Abstract

With the rise of social media, there is a change in the way athletes create, manage and convey their images. They no longer depend on traditional media outlets to shape their reputation but can now use digital platforms to craft their image directly. While there have been lots of studies in this field that span sport sociology, sport communication, and digital media, most results are disjointed, and there is barely any research on how self-presentation, impression management, athletic identity and personal branding come together in the connected context. This review attempts to fill some gaps in the literature by consolidating the empirical works done on athletes' self-presentation in digital environments. According to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a Scopus search was carried out that turned up 649 documents. The Scopus search was conducted in January 2026 using the search terms "social media", "Instagram", "TikTok", "self-presentation", "impression management", "personal branding", and "athletes", combined through Boolean operators. Two independent reviewers screened all records following the PRISMA 2020 protocol, with disagreements resolved through discussion. Inter-rater reliability reached Cohen's κ = 0.87. Study quality was assessed using the FICO appraisal framework, while thematic synthesis followed the procedures proposed by Thomas and Harden (2008). Once duplicates were eliminated (n =6), 643 records were checked; out of these, 582 were either in the wrong type, language or were completely off the topic of the study. Finally, after assessing 61 full-text articles and discarding 51 for not meeting the requirements of self-presentation through an empirical lens or not available, only 10 papers emerged for thematic synthesis. The analysis covered topics such as image building, identity construction, self-promotion techniques, and environmental factors affecting online self-presentation. The three main outcomes were: 1) Athletes playfully weave together aspects of their public and private faces, 2) True or authentic image is primarily an athlete's branding tool, though commercially driven, and 3) Gender, characteristics of a social media platform and the influence of advertising are factors that define how athletes use the medium. In conclusion, the review has laid out the theory, practical guidance, and the scope of further research on this subject to different stakeholders such as sportspersons, trainers, and advertisers.

Abstract

The gig economy has reshaped how people work around the world. Stable contracts are being replaced by fragmented, platform-based arrangements that often feel precarious. Professional sport offers a really interesting lens for this shift. Athletes, coaches, fitness pros, and match-day staff are increasingly working under insecure conditions mediated by digital platforms. Yet this area hasn't been studied much. So we did a systematic literature review. We wanted to pull together what's already known about gig and precarious employment and figure out how it applies to the sports labor market. The whole thing followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. We searched Scopus on January 15, 2025, using a predefined Boolean strategy applied to TITLE-ABS-KEY fields. Two independent reviewers handled screening and eligibility. For methodological quality, we used the FICO framework before moving into thematic synthesis. Out of 886 records found, only 10 studies made it through, all published between 2022 and 2025. The synthesis tackled three big questions: what structural features define precarious employment, how algorithmic management and employment relations work, and what all this means for worker wellbeing, identity, and collective agency. Four main findings stood out. Platform work gives the illusion of autonomy while actually increasing financial dependence. Algorithmic management limits career growth and job security. Precarity takes a real toll on mental health, organizational identification, and hits gendered vulnerabilities hard. And workers show constrained agency through coping strategies and collective action. These insights offer a useful theoretical frame and practical takeaways for sport governance. But they also make it clear we need more longitudinal research that's specific to sport.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of Small-Sided Games training on the passing ability of U-18 SSB Talagoray players. This research employed a quantitative pre-experimental method using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The participants consisted of 19 U-18 players selected using total sampling. Passing ability was measured using the Short Passing Test before and after 16 sessions of Small-Sided Games training. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and a paired sample t-test with SPSS. The results showed that the mean passing score increased from 97.47 in the pretest to 111.42 in the posttest. Statistical analysis indicated a significant improvement after the intervention (p < 0.05), demonstrating that Small-Sided Games training effectively enhanced players' passing ability. It is concluded that Small-Sided Games can be recommended as an effective training method to improve passing performance among youth football players and support overall team performance.
