Abstract

Children often explore mathematical ideas naturally while playing, yet these moments are rarely captured in early childhood classrooms. The purpose of this research is to investigate how spontaneous mathematical talk emerges during free play in a sandbox environment and to understand the types of mathematical ideas children express. A qualitative observational approach was used to document children’s conversations and interactions during unstructured sandbox play. Data were collected through field observations and audio recordings of children’s dialogue while they built, measured, compared, and organized materials in the sand. The recorded interactions were then coded and analyzed to identify patterns of mathematical language and concepts. The findings show that children frequently used informal mathematical talk such as counting, comparing sizes, estimating quantities, and describing shapes while collaborating with peers. These conversations appeared naturally without direct instruction and often emerged when children negotiated roles, shared materials, or solved small problems during play. The study suggests that free play spaces can become rich contexts for early mathematical thinking. Recognizing and supporting these moments may help educators encourage mathematical language in more natural and meaningful ways during everyday classroom activities.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital education requires teacher competency development to move beyond fragmented training toward sustainable professional learning ecosystems. However, private madrasas continue to exhibit substantial disparities in teachers' digital competency outcomes. suggesting that existing policies have not effectively transformed professional development into institutional learning ecosystems. This study employed a qualitative multiple-case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis and were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal three major transformations. First, teacher competency development policies have shifted from fragmented training initiatives toward digital professional learning ecosystems that promote continuous learning and collaborative knowledge sharing. Second, adaptive leadership emerged as the primary driver of policy transformation through strategic supervision, institutional resource allocation, and collaborative professional learning. Third, policy implementation remains constrained by limited institutional readiness, disparities in teachers' digital competencies, dependence on externally driven professional development, and weak professional learning cultures, resulting in uneven policy transformation across private madrasas.

Abstract

This study examines the role of visual storytelling strategies in digital content to enhance brand trust in Islamic boarding schools. This study addresses the gap between the theoretical potential of storytelling and its limited practical implementation in Islamic boarding school digital communications. Using a qualitative case study approach at Walisongo Islamic Boarding School in Pontianak, data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving key informants such as school leaders, public relations officers, and parents. The findings indicate that visual storytelling is built through authentic representations of students' daily activities, religious values, and institutional identity, presented in simple yet meaningful visual formats. This study highlights that authenticity, consistency, and value-based narratives are more influential in building public trust than complex visual aesthetics. Furthermore, digital branding strategies tend to be implicit, relying on real-life storytelling rather than direct promotion. Audience interactions demonstrate positive engagement, reflecting the effectiveness of storytelling in fostering emotional connections and trust. This study concludes that optimizing visual storytelling can significantly strengthen Islamic boarding school brand trust, provided it balances authenticity with adaptive digital innovation in a competitive media environment.
