This study focuses on whether the LyricsTraining application can better strengthen students’ vocabulary recognition in English listening activities compared to YouTube as a learning medium. This was a quantitative study using quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design. The population was the eighth-grade students of State Islamic Junior High School in East Java in the 2025/2026 academic year. Two classes were taken as the sample, VIII I class as the experimental group with lyrics-training learning and VIII F Class as control group with youtube learning. Quantitative data were collected using pre-tests and post-tests in the form of listening vocabulary recognition tests, followed by analysis with descriptive statistics and the Mann–Whitney U test. The results showed a relevant distinction in between both groups (0.006 < 0.05). It was concluded that LyricsTraining significantly optimize students’ vocabulary recognition in listening activities and could be used as an interactive alternative medium for teaching listening

Abstract

This study examines the morphophonological behavior of the English derivational suffixes -ize and -ify, focusing on their influence on primary stress placement in derived verbs. Using a descriptive corpus-based approach, the study analyzes English words ending in -ize and -ify retrieved from Sketch Engine, with phonetic transcription and stress placement verified through Oxford dictionary entries. The data were classified based on suffix type, base form, derived form, and the phonetic transcription of both the base and suffixed forms. The findings show that -ize is largely stress-neutral, as most derived verbs preserve the stress pattern of their base forms. By contrast, -ify tends to be more stress-sensitive, frequently leading to stress reassignment toward the antepenultimate syllable. Although the two suffixes differ in their degree of stress sensitivity, both display a strong tendency toward antepenultimate stress in derived verbs. The study also identifies several irregular patterns, indicating that stress placement in English derivation is shaped not only by suffixation but also by lexical, prosodic, and historical factors. These findings underline the close interaction between morphology and phonology in English word formation and offer useful implications for pronunciation instruction and morphological awareness in English Language Teaching.

Abstract

Curriculum is a fundamental component of every educational institution, yet determining an appropriate curriculum remains a significant challenge. Pondok Modern Darul Ihsan Nganjuk addresses this issue by integrating multiple curricula into its educational system. This study examines the institution’s curriculum integration through Robin Fogarty’s framework of curriculum integration models. Using a qualitative approach, the research identifies the integration model applied and evaluates its implications for curriculum implementation. The findings indicate that the Arabic language curriculum primarily reflects the Integrated Model, which connects Arabic instruction with various fields of Islamic studies at the junior and senior secondary levels. In addition, the curriculum incorporates elements of the Nested Model by integrating multiple skills, concepts, and learning standards within individual lessons. These findings demonstrate that the institution adopts a comprehensive curriculum integration approach to enhance the effectiveness of Arabic language learning.

Abstract

In the digital era, digital platforms have significantly transformed the learning landscape, particularly for Generation Z, including those within the Pesantren sphere, a generation that has grown alongside digital technology despite years of boarding school life. Among these platforms, TikTok stands out as one of the most influential, especially in shaping language acquisition by introducing new vocabulary, idioms, and grammatical structures, thereby impacting the evolution of English. This study examines English-language TikTok content, focusing on the widely used For You Page (FYP) tag, to explore its influence on both language trends and learners. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research highlights Gen Z users' experiences through open-ended questionnaires and interviews, while thematic analysis is applied to interpret their stories. The findings reveal that TikTok contributes to noticeable changes in English, particularly in vocabulary and structures. Moreover, this study provides insights into how future generations may adapt to these linguistic shifts through this research of TikTok’s perceived impact on language learning.
