Abstract

Mangrove menjadi salah satu ekosistem lahan basah yang berperan penting dalam menyerap karbon. Namun, secara alami ekosistem mangrove juga mampu mengemisikan gas rumah kaca kedalam atmosfer. Metana merupakan salah satu gas rumah kaca yang berdampak signifikan terhadap perubahan iklim. Penelitian tentang siklus metana telah dilakukan di ekosistem mangrove TAHURA Ngurah Rai Bali. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur konsentrasi gas metana pada tiga zona ekosistem mangrove. Metode chamber tertutup digunakan dalam pengambilan sampel gas yang kemudian dianalisis dalam gas kromatografi dengan sensor flame ionization detector (FID). Karakter ekologi mangrove yang terdiri dari parameter struktur komunitas mangrove dan lingkungan diukur dari setiap plot kuadrat pengambilan sampel gas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan konsentrasi gas metana tertinggi ditemukan pada zona darat dengan rata-rata 3,698 ± 0,986 mg. L-1. Walaupun demikian, konsentrasi gas metana pada dua zona lainnya tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan dengan zona darat. Variabilitas konsentrasi gas metana tidak berbeda signifikan dengan kondisi struktur komunitas mangrove yang berbeda antar zona. Penelitian ini hanya menemukan variasi nilai potensial redoks (ORP) yang berhubungan signifikan dengan konsentrasi gas metana. Hasil penelitian mengindikasikan bahwa karakter ekologi mangrove yang cukup seragam di kawasan sehingga, tidak menimbulkan perbedaan yang signifikan pada konsentrasi gas metana antar zona. Namun, parameter kondisi substrat lainnya perlu dilibatkan dalam penelitian berikutnya.AbstractMangrove is one of the wetland ecosystems that play an important role in carbon sequestration and storage. However, the ecosystem also emits greenhouse gas into the atmosphere naturally. Methane has been considered as a significant effect on global warming. A preliminary study in a part of the carbon cycle was conducted on the mangrove ecosystem in Ngurah Rai Forest Park Bali. This study was aimed to determine methane gas concentration in three different mangrove zones. Gas samples were collected by closed chamber method and they were analyzed using gas chromatography embedded with the flame ionization detector (FID) sensor. Mangrove ecological parameters i.e. community structure and environmental condition were determined on each quadratic plot where gas samples were collected. The result showed that the highest methane concentration was found in the landward zone at 3,698 ± 0,986 mg. L-1. Even though, the methane concentration of the other zones had not significantly different from the landward zone. In addition, the mangrove community structure among the three zones was not different significantly. The oxidation-reduction potential was the only factor that had a significant correlation with methane concentration. Those results indicated that mangrove ecological conditions among zones were similar to each other,  hence the variation of methane concentration was not significant. Nevertheless, substrate abiotic characters need to be involved in greenhouse gas studies in the future.

Abstract

Mikroalga epifit merupakan organisme yang berperan penting sebagai produsen di lingkungan perairan. Organisme ini hidup menempel selamanya pada suatu substrat sehingga dapat menjadi bioindikator kesehatan lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui struktur komunitas mikroalga epifit dan hubungannya dengan parameter lingkungan. Metode substrat buatan digunakan sebagai media tempat menempel mikroalga epifit, yang kemudian dianalisis indeks struktur komunitasnya. Struktur komunitas mikroalga epifit terdiri dari kelimpahan, keanekaragaman, keseragaman dan dominansi, sedangkan parameter perairan diukur yakni suhu, pH, salinitas, total padatan terlarut, nitrat dan fosfat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rata-rata kelimpahan mikroalga epifit yakni 112,62 ± 230,25 sel/mm2 dan 50,77 ± 85,34 sel/mm2 berturut-turut pada substrat kasar dan halus. Secara keseluruhan, nilai indeks keanekaragaman mikroalga epifit termasuk dalam kategori sedang, indeks keseragaman kategori tinggi dan indeks dominansi rendah. Salinitas dan fosfat merupakan parameter yang berhubungan signifikan dengan kelimpahan mikroalga epifit. Hasil penelitian mengindikasikan bahwa kondisi perairan di Pulau Serangan masih tergolong bagus bagi pertumbuhan mikroalga epifit.

Abstract

Beratan Lake was mainly popular for tourism and aquaculture activities that affecting water's environmental characteristics. The water healthiness indicator can be seen through the organism's existence, namely plankton to nekton biota that can be uses as an essential parameter in monitoring water conditions. This study aims to determine the plankton community structure index, saprobity index and the presence of nektons in the Beratan Lake. Plankton were sampled using the pouring method while the nekton sample was taken randomly through direct sampling with fishing nets and conducted interviews with the surrounding local community and fishermen. The results of the study found that the abundance of phytoplankton was dominated by Staurastrum with abundance level 1,836.92 ind/L. Meanwhile, the zooplankton was dominated by Rotifera with abundance level 8.17 ind/L. The diversity index, uniformity and dominance of phytoplankton are 1.31, 0.60 and 0.33 respectively, while the saprobity index is 1.08 which classifies the waters of Beratan Lake as being in a lightly polluted condition. There were 18 species of nektons in Beratan Lake were found, with one endemic species Rasbora balinensis and 13 foreign fish. There also an invasive species, namely zebrafish (Amatitlania nigrofasciata) was found in this Lake. From the results of the study, we hope that the government in cooperation with the surrounding community, can control the ecological conditions of the waters of Beratan Lake, especially the presence of invasive species which are increasing in number, as well as protect endemic species. Abstract

The impact of flooding extends beyond physical and infrastructural damage, affecting social, economic, and environmental dimensions. This study aims to identify the key factors influencing flooding by developing a decision tree model. The research method applies the C4.5 algorithm to build a decision tree model using flood factors such as rainfall, soil type, elevation, land use, and distance from rivers. The model is then applied to 57 past flood data events to determine key contributors to flooding in Denpasar City, Bali, Indonesia. The analysis showed that land elevation is the most influential factor, with areas below 28 meters above sea level having a 71% likelihood of being flood vulnerability. Additionally, the model reveals unknown patterns contributing to flood vulnerability among the factors considered. These insights give a deeper understanding of how these factors combine to affect flood vulnerability. The model's effectiveness was evaluated using a confusion matrix, resulting in an accuracy rate of 90%, a precision rate of 100%, a sensitivity rate of 90%, a specificity rate of 100%, and a F1 Score rate of 94%, demonstrating its strong predictive power in identifying areas at risk of flood vulnerability. Although this study is limited by the availability of data, the focus on Denpasar City, and the potential omission of other relevant attributes, it advances flood risk assessment by applying machine learning to provide practical insights that could enhance flood management strategies, with potential applications to other urban areas facing similar risks.

Abstract

Pencemaran merkuri di perairan Indonesia telah menjadi masalah karena jumlahnya yang semakin meningkat, serta memiliki dampak negatif terhadap kesehatan manusia dan lingkungan. Pencemaran ini disebabkan oleh aktivitas industri, pertambangan, dan eksploitasi tambang emas rakyat. Konsentrasi merkuri di beberapa perairan di Indonesia telah melebihi batas yang ditetapkan oleh standar pemerintah Indonesia dan internasional. Pencemaran merkuri di lingkungan laut dan pesisir telah mengancam ekosistem dan kesehatan manusia yang mengkonsumsi ikan dan produk laut lainnya. Untuk mengatasi masalah ini, diperlukan strategi efektif dalam mengurangi atau menghilangkan pencemaran merkuri. Upaya strategi yang diperlukan mencakup pengendalian sumber, pemantauan konsentrasi merkuri di lingkungan, dan tindakan mitigasi. Studi ini mengumpulkan data melalui metode literatur review dan meta analisis dari makalah-makalah terkait pencemaran merkuri di perairan pesisir dan laut Indonesia. Hasil kajian ini dapat menjadi pedoman dalam pengelolaan dan mitigasi pencemaran merkuri di lingkungan pesisir dan laut, khususnya di Indonesia.

Abstract

Mikroplastik merupakan salah satu isu lingkungan yang semakin mengkhawatirkan karena dampaknya terhadap ekosistem laut dan kesehatan manusia. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengidentifikasi bentuk, warna, ukuran, dan jenis polimer mikroplastik yang ditemukan pada ikan kerapu muara (Epinephelus coioides) dan ikan baronang (Siganus sp.) di kawasan Ekowisata Mangrove Batu Lumbang, Denpasar. Sampel ikan diambil dari habitat alami mereka, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan metode destruksi saluran cerna dengan larutan KOH 10%, penyaringan dengan kertas saring Whatman, serta identifikasi menggunakan mikroskop dan spektroskopi FT-IR. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bentuk mikroplastik yang paling banyak ditemukan adalah fibers, dengan persentase mencapai 80% pada kedua jenis ikan, diikuti oleh fragmen dan film dalam jumlah yang lebih kecil. Warna mikroplastik yang dominan adalah bening (56-60%), diikuti oleh warna biru, hitam, dan cokelat. Sebagian besar partikel berukuran kecil (≤1 mm), sehingga lebih mudah tertelan dan terakumulasi dalam tubuh ikan. Analisis FT-IR mengidentifikasi polyethylene dan polyacetylene sebagai polimer utama, yang kemungkinan besar berasal dari limbah rumah tangga dan aktivitas manusia seperti perikanan. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa aktivitas manusia, termasuk pembuangan sampah plastik, berkontribusi besar terhadap pencemaran mikroplastik di kawasan mangrove. Hasil ini memberikan gambaran penting untuk pengelolaan limbah plastik yang lebih baik dan upaya mitigasi pencemaran. Dengan langkah-langkah yang tepat, dampak negatif terhadap ekosistem mangrove dan kesehatan masyarakat dapat diminimalkan, mendukung keberlanjutan ekosistem dan kehidupan di wilayah pesisir.

Abstract

Hutan mangrove memegang peranan yang penting dalam perlindungan pesisir dan penyerapan karbon, namun ancaman degradasinya terus meningkat. Teknologi penginderaan jauh menawarkan solusi pemantauan efisien melalui Indeks Kesehatan Mangrove atau Mangrove Health Index (MHI) berbasis citra Sentinel-2 (MHI-S2). Penelitian ini mengevaluasi akurasi model empiris MHI-S2 dibandingkan dengan pengukuran MHI lapangan (MHI-L), pada ekosistem mangrove di Bali dan Jawa Timur. Data dikumpulkan dari 194 plot pada 6 lokasi berbeda di Bali dan Jawa Timur dengan pengamatan yang mencakup parameter tutupan tajuk, diameter batang, dan kerapatan pancang/sapling, yang kemudian disandingkan dengan MHI-S2 pada periode waktu berdekatan. Evaluasi kinerja menggunakan koefisien korelasi Pearson (r dan R²), metrik galat/error (RMSE, MAE, bias), koefisien korelasi konkordansi Lin (Lin’s CCC), serta analisis Bland–Altman. Hasil menunjukkan hubungan moderat antara MHI-S2 dan MHI-L (r = 0,71; R² = 0,50). Meski demikian, ditemukan bias positif yang cukup tinggi yaitu sebesar 20,6 yang mengindikasikan kecenderungan overestimasi oleh model MHI-S2. Rendahnya nilai Lin’s CCC (0,36) dan lebarnya rentang batas kesepakatan 95% hasil analisis Bland–Altman (–17 hingga +59) menegaskan akurasi yang terbatas pada skala plot. Temuan ini mengimplikasikan bahwa model MHI-S2 yang tersedia saat ini belum sepenuhnya andal untuk estimasi nilai absolut MHI-L. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan pengembangan model empiris lanjutan serta validasi lapangan yang lebih intensif untuk meningkatkan presisi pemantauan berbasis satelit, demi mendukung keberhasilan manajemen konservasi mangrove.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the longline fishing gear operating techniques on the KM Bahari Nusantara 35 vessel operating in the Indonesian Fisheries Management Area (WPPNRI) 573 in the Indian Ocean. The study was conducted in January–February 2024 through participant observation and semi-structured interviews during one fishing trip. The results indicate that longline fishing gear operation consists of three main stages: setting, soaking time, and hauling. The average setting time is 3 hours, soaking time is 2–3 hours, and hauling takes the longest, 10–14 hours. The fishing gear used has 1,496 hooks with a main line length of 62,832 meters. The catch was dominated by yellowfin tuna, followed by bigeye tuna and bluefin tuna. The operating techniques applied were deemed effective and appropriate to the characteristics of the fishing area's waters. This research is expected to serve as a reference in developing efficient and sustainable longline fishing gear operating techniques.

Abstract

Arafura waters are one of the main squid (Loligo sp.) fishing areas in Indonesia with an important contribution to national capture fisheries production. This study aims to describe the squid handline operation technique and analyze the types and quantities of catches on KM. Bandar Nelayan 118 based in Benoa Harbor, Bali. The study was conducted in October–November 2023 through direct observation on board, interviews with the captain and crew, and documentation of fishing activities. Data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The results showed that squid handline operations were carried out at night with the help of 2000 watt metal halide lamps, using four main techniques, namely bottom fishing (ahe-ahe), mid-line fishing (kokokan), surface fishing (lempang), and sate fishing. Fishing gear is selective and only catches Loligo sp. squid without bycatch. The total catch during the study reached approximately 9,902 kg, with daily fluctuations influenced by currents, baiting techniques, bait color, and the location of the catch. This study demonstrates that squid handline fishing on the KM. Bandar Nelayan 118 is effective, selective, and has the potential to support sustainable capture fisheries in the Arafura Waters.

Spatial distribution of mangrove health index on three genera dominated zones in Benoa Bay, Bali, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 23: 3407-3418. A study of mangrove forest stratification was conducted in Benoa Bay which experienced high coastal development pressures during the last decade. The study aimed to determine mangrove health index distribution (MHI) and forest community structures along three genera-dominated zones which were Sonneratia, Rhizophora and Bruguiera. Random forest method was applied to classify the areas of distributed genera along the bay. Forest structure was assessed with 54 plots. The forest was mainly composed of Rhizophora and Sonneratia-dominated zones in a respective forest area proportion at approximately 51% and 45%. Those zones were dominated by R. mucronata and S. alba with an importance value index (IVI) at 266.35% and 145.57%, respectively. A narrow Bruguiera zone composed of B. gymnorrhiza domination was found in the most landward area, only covering 4% of the mangrove area. Overall accuracy and a kappa coefficient indicated high accuracy of forest classification at 97% and 0.94 respectively. We found that 47.44% of mangrove areas could be classified into the highest healthiness category indicating that the mangrove forest in Benoa Bay is in excellent condition. The Rhizophora zone made a significant contribution to the entire forest state since the excellent category coverage in this zone was approximately 73.80%.
