Abstract

Fulfillment children’s nutritional needs is important to support growth and development. The dietary habitof school-age children which tends to prefer snacks at school rather than eating at homewill affect the nutritionalstatus of children. The purpose of this study was to analyze determinant factors of snacks choice, relationshipbetween snacks choice with frequency of snacks, and relationship of nutrition contribution of snacks with nutritionalstatus of children. This study was a cross-sectional study funded by the Neys-van Hoogstraten Foundation, theNetherlands and was conducted at three primary schools namely SDN Kedokan, SDN Pajajaran and SDN Cibogoin Cisauk Sub-District, Tangerang Regency with total subjects of this study were 109 students. Factor-analysisandRank Spearman relationship tests were used to analyze data. There are five main factors that determine thesnackschoice, namely familiarity factor, characteristics of snacks, environmental and social, nutritional content and variation, and health. Health factors and snack characteristics had significant relationships with frequency of snacks(p<0.05). The contribution of energy, protein, fat and carbohydrate had significant relationships with the nutritionalstatus of children (p<0.05). The study resultshows that snack choice played an important role in snackinghabits and nutrition contribution of snacks had an impact on nutritional status of children, therefore availability ofsnacks at school should consider the children’s snack choice and nutritioncontribution of snacks.

Abstract

Maternal nutritional knowledge, attitude, behavior, and intake based on hydration statusBackground: Based on past studies, 49% of pregnant women had low knowledge of nutrition and hydration. Nutritional knowledge, attitudes, and behavior are positively correlated to nutritional intake, malnutrition and dehydration may disturb maternal health and pregnancy outcome. Objectives: To analyze maternal nutritional knowledge, attitudes, behavior, and nutritional intake based on the hydration status. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Puskesmas Kebon Jeruk District, West Jakarta using a purposive sampling method. Subjects were 50 pregnant women who came to check their pregnancies. Subject’s characteristics, nutritional knowledge, attitudes, and behavior are collected with a questionnaire, nutritional intake with 1x24 hours recall. Hemoglobin (Hb) level is determined with Haemometer, urine specific gravity with Urinometer, and urine color with PURI card. Results: Subjects had an average age of 29.0±5.7 years, gestational age 21.3±11.3 weeks, weight 62.7±9 kg, height 158.1±4.1 cm, upper arm circumference 32.4±29.5 cm, Hb level 12.2±0.9 g/dL, urine color score 4±0.9, and urine specific gravity 1016±5.4. Based on urine specific gravity, 56% of the pregnant women were euhydrated and 44% were dehydrated. Based on the hydration status there were no differences in knowledge, attitudes, behavior, and macronutrient intake (p≥0.05), except for the fluid intake (p<0.05).Conclusions: Although the knowledge, attitudes, and nutritional behavior of pregnant women were not poor, optimization of the fluid consumption to 3L/day, and diversified food consumption is needed. Further research on external factors that can affect the nutritional status and hydration of pregnant women is recommended.

Abstract

The prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCD) increases continuously everyyear and this is the biggest factor causing death. Based on WHO data in 2020, 73% of deaths inIndonesia were caused by NCD. Hypertension belongs to NCD and the main cause of death inthe world. The consumption pattern of the plant-based diet contains a lot of fiber, magnesium, folic acid, Fe3+, vitamins C and E, n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), antioxidants, carotenoids, flavonoids, and other phytochemicals so can prevent hypertension. The purpose ofthis article was to find out the benefits of implementing a plant-based diet in reducing the risk ofhypertension, based on the results of research that has been performed. The method used inthis article is randomized control trials (RCTs) on articles published with sources from GoogleSchoolar, PubMed, and Elsevier. The results of the review showed that there was a significantrelationship in the application of the plant-based diet to the reduction of blood pressure and therisk of hypertension in various age groups. However, the application of a plant-based diet cancause micronutrient deficiencies. Therefore, the application of a plant-based diet was good forpreventing the risk of hypertension and accompanied by the selection of various types of food. Abstract

Abstract

Nutritional problems are a problem that is still a challenge in Indonesia and in various regions, especially Bogor City, which still has a high prevalence of nutritional problems, such as stunting of 18.7% and underweight of 13%. With the anthropometric measurement training for cadres, it is hoped to increase the accuracy of data on nutritional status. The series of activities include the delivery of material related to anthropometric measurement standards in the form of power points and practicing anthropometric measurements using various measuring devices. This training activity can increase the knowledge score of cadres regarding procedures for validating anthropometric measurements, how to measure, the importance of proper measurements, and the interpretation of each measurement marked by a post-test score of 28.6 points greater than the pre-test score. Anthropometric measurement training positively influences cadres' knowledge of the importance of proper anthropometric measurements.

Abstract

Background: The toddler years are often referred to as the golden age, a critical period in a child's development that encompasses physical, psychomotor, mental, and social aspects. Good nutritional status is crucial for optimal child development, while excessive nutrition, such as overweight and obesity, can hinder growth and increase the risk oflong-term diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Purpose: To determine the effect of education using leaflets on improving knowledge about balanced nutrition among mothers of toddlers with nutritional problems. Method: The method used in this study was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test post-test group design conducted in Dewisari Village, Rengasdengklok District, with a total of 30 respondents. Results: The statistical test results using the Wilcoxon test yielded a p-value of 0.002 (p<0.005), which means that there is an effect of providing education through leaflets on the balanced nutrition knowledge of mothers of toddlers with nutritional deficiencies. Conclusion: This study shows that education through leaflets is effective in improving mothers' nutritional knowledge, which in turn can contribute to improving the nutritional status of toddlers
