Abstract

Phaleria macrocarpa is a plant renowned for its bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, and tannins, which are believed to have various pharmacological properties. This study aimed to determine the lethal concentration 50 (LC50) of P. macrocarpa leaf extracts obtained by sequential maceration in n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and 70% ethanol. The toxicity of the extracts was evaluated using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) against Artemia salina leach larvae, a commonly used model organism in toxicity testing due to its sensitivity to various toxic substances. The results indicated that the 70% ethanol extract exhibited moderate toxicity with an LC50 of 126.981 ppm, the ethyl acetate extract was categorized as weakly toxic (LC50 of 691.730 ppm), and the n-hexane extract was classified as non-toxic (LC50 of 1416.537 ppm). These findings indicate that solvent polarity influences the extraction of bioactive compounds and their biological activity. This study highlights the novelty of sequential maceration as a selective extraction approach that enhances toxicity profiling and supports preliminary pharmacological screening for natural product-based drug development. Furthermore, the study underscores the importance of using selective extraction methods to isolate bioactive compounds based on their polarity. This study provides preliminary data on the toxicity profile of P. macrocarpa leaves and highlights the potential of its bioactive compounds for further pharmacological research, particularly in the development of natural-based therapeutic agents. Future studies should focus on isolating and identifying the active compounds responsible for the observed toxicity and on their potential for use in drug development.

Abstract

Semakin tinggi pendidikan ibu, semakin besar kemungkinan pemberian ASI eksklusif dilakukan.

Abstract

Premenopausal women with cervical cancer experience heightened anxiety due to hormonal changes, fear of treatment, and uncertainty about their future roles. Estrogen decline during perimenopause reduces neurotransmitter levels, further increasing vulnerability to anxiety. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of structured education based on midwifery care in reducing anxiety levels among premenopausal cervical cancer patients at a public hospital in Banten. A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach was used. A total of 30 participants were selected through purposive sampling based on the following inclusion criteria: aged 35–50 years, diagnosed with cervical cancer, premenopausal status, and ability to communicate effectively. The dependent variable was anxiety level, measured using the validated Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale–Anxiety (HADS-A). This instrument consists of 7 items, each scored on a 4-point Likert scale (0–3), with a total score ranging from 0 to 21, where higher scores indicate greater levels of anxiety. The Bahasa Indonesia version of the HADS-A was used, which has demonstrated good reliability with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.82. Anxiety levels were assessed before and after the intervention. The structured educational intervention covered four key topics: understanding cervical cancer, perimenopausal changes, anxiety management techniques, and psychosocial and family support. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. After the intervention, the proportion of respondents with normal anxiety levels increased from 16.7% to 46.7%, while severe anxiety decreased from 16.7% to 0%. The mean anxiety score significantly decreased from 12.40 to 8.10 (p < 0.05). Structured education grounded in midwifery care offers a holistic, woman-centered approach that has the potential to effectively alleviate anxiety in this vulnerable.

Abstract

ullying is an act in which someone hurts, insults, pressures, mentally undermines, and controls another person by using violence so that the victim receives all kinds of treatment carried out by the perpetrator. Bullying is an unwanted act, especially in a school environment. Bullying is behavior carried out by one or more people intentionally harming another person repeatedly. The purpose of this community service is to provide knowledge to students regarding an understanding of bullying behavior among students and to help students know how to avoid bullying at school. The method used in this Community Service activity is a lecture method that discusses material on the impact of bullying on mental health which is directly delivered by the resource person, as well as a question and answer session. The results of this socialization activity provide a clear picture that the issue of bullying among high school students still occurs. Many children do not understand that the behavior of teasing, pushing, ostracizing, or spreading rumors can be a form of hurtful bullying. Community service activities regarding the impact of bullying on mental health show that most students have a limited understanding of the forms of bullying and their consequences for mental health.
