Abstract

Numeracy skills, computational thinking, and collaboration need to be possessed by students to be able to adapt to advances in science, technology, and information. This study aims to analyze the differences between numeracy skills, computational thinking, and collaboration in classes that implement project-based learning and classes that apply the lecture method. This study used a weak experimental method with a static-group pretest and posttest design model. The research data was obtained through rubrics and test questions that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results of the analysis and statistical tests showed that the average value of the numeration skills rubric, computational thinking, and collaboration of students in the experimental class was greater than that of the control class. The average score of the rubric of students' numeracy skills, computational thinking and collaboration in the experimental class was 83.77; 87.17; and 90.75. While the average score of the numeration skills rubric, computational thinking and student collaboration respectively in the control class, namely 64.71; 61.76; and 77.57.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Station Rotation learning model in improving students' mastery of concepts and skills in United Kingdom subjects in grade III. The research was conducted in three cycles, each with an approach that involved the use of different stations for learning, exercise, and evaluation. The results show that the application of this model significantly improves students' ability to understand the material and communication skills. The increase in the average competency score of students in designing learning, communicating, and using the United Kingdom was recorded from cycle one to cycle three. However, challenges still exist in terms of material understanding and use of technology, which indicates the need for further adjustments in learning methods and the provision of adequate facilities. Overall, the Station Rotation model has proven to be effective in improving students' collaboration skills and understanding of United Kingdom concepts.

Abstract

Student learning concentration, student language skills, and teacher competency are very important in achieving student development in early childhood education. These three competencies in the XYZ Playgroup Class in Jakarta have not been well developed. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of the clapping playing method on teacher competence, the development of student learning concentration, improving students' language skills, as well as the implementation of the learning process in the classroom. The research method used is classroom action research which includes three cycles, each cycle includes the stages of planning, observation, action and reflection. The research subjects were 16 students, two observers. The research instrument is an assessment rubric to measure teacher competency, student learning concentration, and student learning ability. The research results showed that teacher competency increased from Cycle 1 to Cycle 2 with an N-Gain of 03, but from Cycle 2 to Cycle 3 there was no increase because the N-Gain value was still the same (0.3). Meanwhile, the comparison of teacher competency from Cycle 1 to Cycle 3 achieved good development, because the N-Gain value reached 0.6. Student learning concentration has increased, as can be seen from the N-Gain from Cycle 1 to Cycle 2, an increase of 0.4 was obtained. Then the N-Gain from Cycle 2 to Cycle 3 obtained an increased value of 0.6. Students' language skills experienced an increase in N-Gain from Cycle 1 to Cycle 2, resulting in an increase of 0.4. Then the N-Gain from Cycle 2 to Cycle 3 obtained an increased value of 0.5.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between students' understanding of science concepts and their critical thinking skills in junior high school, specifically on the topic of simple machines. The research method used is descriptive correlational with a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of one class. Data were collected through tests, including a concept understanding test and a critical thinking skills test. The analysis results show a significant relationship between the understanding of science concepts and students' critical thinking skills. These findings are consistent with previous studies stating that a strong understanding of concepts can enhance students’ critical thinking abilities. Based on these results, it is recommended that science curricula integrate learning approaches that simultaneously promote conceptual understanding and critical thinking.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability of science teachers to develop teaching modules based on critical thinking skills at SMP Negeri 1 Baktiraja. It compares the effectiveness of online and offline teacher training methods. The research employed an experimental design involving two groups of teachers who received training in different formats. The first group participated in online training through a digital learning platform, while the second group attended offline training conducted face-to-face. The population of this study comprised all public junior high schools under the UPTD of Humbang Hasundutan Regency. The samples selected were UPT SMP Negeri 019 Sibuntuon and UPT SMP Negeri 001 Pasar Doloksanggul, chosen through purposive sampling. The study was conducted over a period of six days. The research instrument used was a test, with data collected through pre-tests and post-tests to measure the improvement in teachers' abilities to develop critical thinking-based teaching modules. Additionally, observations and interviews were conducted to explore participants’ experiences during the training sessions. The results showed that both training methods significantly improved teacher competence. However, there were notable differences in certain aspects. Offline training was found to be more effective in enhancing teachers' abilities to develop critical thinking-based teaching modules. This was attributed to direct interaction, in-depth discussions, and hands-on practice. In contrast, while online training also led to improvements, its effectiveness was lower due to limited direct interaction, fewer in-depth discussions, and challenges in providing structured practice. Nevertheless, online training offered flexibility and broader accessibility, enabling more teachers to participate regardless of geographic location.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out at MIS Nyalindung, Cisarua, with the aim of improving the scientific literacy and numeracy skills of elementary school students through a literacy- and STEM-based approach. This activity involved 53 students from grades 3 to 6, who were divided into two phases based on grade level. The intervention was carried out through a combination of reading literary and information texts, as well as simple experiments on changes in the states of objects. Evaluation was carried out through pretests and posttests, which showed a significant increase in students' average scores in both phases, with normalized gains of 0.38 and 0.47, respectively. The results of the paired t-test showed a statistically significant increase. In addition to cognitive improvements, this activity also showed a positive impact on the affective aspect, where 85% of students felt more motivated to learn science, and 90% expressed satisfaction with the learning methods used. The questionnaire data showed that most students had visual (43%) and kinesthetic (39%) learning styles, which supports the effectiveness of the multimodal approach in learning. This activity also contributed 450 literacy- and STEM-themed reading books as a form of ongoing support for strengthening literacy culture in schools. The results of observations showed an increase in active participation, the ability to work together, and communication skills of students. The role of teachers as facilitators also contributed to creating a fun and productive learning environment. Overall, this activity demonstrates that the literacy- and STEM-based approach is effective when implemented at the elementary school level and has a positive impact on fostering active, contextual, and sustainable learning.
