Abstract

Patients with removable partial denture need abutment tooth as retainer for the clasp. In some cases, this tooth requires endodontic treatment or even jacket crown so it can be used as a clasp retainer. For patient with removable partial denture, post core and crown fabrication in abutment teeth require adjustments to the crown to fit with denture clasp. First case, a 23-year-old male patient with fractured lower second premolar tooth because of previous metal restoration failure and had been treated with root canal treatment. The tooth was used as an abutment for removable partial denture that was still in good condition. The tooth was later treated with cast post and core with PFM (Porcelain fused to metal) crown. Second case, a 60-year-old female patient came to the clinic with a complaint of fracture in upper first premolar. This tooth was also used as abutment for maxillary framework partial denture. A template made of pattern resin was made to reproduce the dentures for both cases. Acrylic resin has good accuracy and stability to reproduce parts of the denture. The advantage of this technique is that patients can use their denture during fabrication of the crown.

Abstract

Temporomandibular disorder is a disorder that includes masticatory muscles or temporomandibular joints, unbalanced joint function or both. The disorders can disturb daily activity, cause by pain. The therapy consuming time and cost. Early detection of temporomandibular disorder is needed, as a prevention of more severe disorders. Increased cortisol can be found in myofacial pain and is not found in internal dearagement or osteoarthritis. Biomarkers of interleukin and monocyte chemoattractant proteins are only found in osteoarthritis. The use of biomarkers can be useful in detecting temporomandibular disorders. Biomarkers can be measured from blood, serum and saliva. Cortisol, dopamine and TAC are potential biomarkers in the temporomandibular disorder.

Abstract

Nyeri di rongga mulut dan sekitarnya merupakan keluhan yang menjadi alasan pasien datang ke dokter gigi. Pada mukosa rongga mulut, recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) merupakan inflamasi yang menyebabkan rasa sakit dan menganggu penderitanya karena rekurensinya. Nyeri myofacial juga sering dialami oleh pasien dan mengganggu aktivitas kehidupan sehari-hari berdampak negatif pada kualitas hidup. Pada makalah ini dilaporkan kasus pasien RAS yang mengalami nyeri myofacial. Selain pemberian antiinflamsi topikal sebagai terapi RAS, pasien dibuatkan gigi tiruan sebagian lepasan dan splint stabilisasi. Perawatan yang komprehensip pada kasus ini menyebabkan penurunan nilai VAS yang significan. Perawatan komprehensif termasuk secara farmakologi maupun non farmakologi perlu dilakukan untuk menghilangkan nyeri yang dialami pasien.

Abstract

Hilangnya gigi akan mengganggu proses fungsional dan estetik seseorang. Penggantian gigi yang hilang dengan suatu gigi tiruan sebagian lepasan seringkali kurang memuaskan terutama dari segi mastikasi, fungsional dan estetik. Pasien yang pernah menggunakan gigi tiruan sebagian lepasan dan tidak nyaman menggunakannya akan menyebabkan ekstrusi gigi antagonisnya akibat pasien tidak mau menggunakan gigi tiruannya. Penggunaan kaitan presisi merupakan alternatif pilihan yang lebih ekonomis dan menguntungkan dibandingkan implan untuk kasus seperti ini. Terutama jika tindakan pembedahan merupakan suatu kontraindikasi.

Abstract

Objective: To compare the compressive strength of three types of commercial lithium disilicate ceramics. Methods: Three groups of lithium disilicate ceramics (IPS e.max Press, Vintage LD Press, and Celtra Press) total of twelve cylindrical specimens (diameter 4 mm x length 6 mm) were produced by laboratory processing. The compressive strength was conducted using Shimad-zu universal testing machine with load cell F 50 kN, cross head speed of 1 mm/s. Micromorphology were observed using scan-ning electron microscope. Anova test and Weibull test were performed and p<0.05 was considered significant. Results: There are no significant differences between three groups of lithium disilicate dental ceramics compressive strength (p=0.531). How-ever, IPS e.max Press group show higher compressive strength compared to the other two materials. IPS e.max Press and Vin-tage LD Press groups show significantly higher coefficient corelation than Celtra Press group. Conclusion: IPS e.max Press lithium disilicate dental ceramic have higher compressive strength compared to the other groups, but the reliability of Celtra Press is lower than those of lithium disilicate dental ceramics.

Abstract

Abstract: Long-term use of dentures with poor cleaning can cause denture stomatitis mainly due to Candida albicans and Streptococcus mutans. Oregano leaf (Origanum vulgare) which contains a variety of active components is believed to be an alternative of denture cleansers. This study aimed to determine the effect of oregano leaf extract on heat-cured acrylic resin plates contaminated with C. albicans and S. mutans. There were 27 heat-cured acrylic plates contaminated and soaked for 10 minutes in nine treatment groups, as follows: oregano leaf extract of 50 mg/ml, 25 mg/ml, 12.5 mg/ml, 6.25 mg/ml, 3,125 mg /ml, 1,562 mg/ml, and 0,781 mg/ml, distilled water as the negative control, Polident denture cleanser fresh (positive control for C. albicans) and chlorhexidine gluconate 0,2% (positive control for S. mutans). The colony number of C. albicans and the inhibition zones of S. mutans were counted. The results showed that the lowest number of C. albicans colony and the largest inhibition zone for S. mutans were at the concentration of 50 mg/ml oregano leaf extract. In conclusion, there was an effect of oregano leaf extract on acrylic resin plates contaminated with Candida albicans and Streptococcus mutans. Keywords: acrylic resin; denture stomatitis; Origanum vulgare; Candida albicans; Streptococcus mutans   Abstrak: Penggunaan gigi tiruan secara terus menerus dalam jangka panjang dengan pembersihan yang buruk dapat menyebabkan denture stomatitis terutama oleh Candida albicans dan Strepto-coccus mutans. Daun oregano (Origanum vulgare) yang mengandung beragam komponen aktif diyakini dapat menjadi alternatif pembersih gigi tiruan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak daun oregano terhadap plat resin akrilik heat-cured yang dikontaminasi jamur C. albicans dan S. mutans. Terdapat 27 plat akrilik heat-cured yang dikontaminasi dan dilakukan perendaman selama 10 menit dalam sembilan kelompok perlakuan yaitu, konsentrasi ekstrak daun oregano 50 mg/ml, 25 mg/ml, 12,5 mg/ml, 6,25 mg/ml, 3,125 mg/ml, 1,562 mg/ml, 0,781 mg/ml, akuades (kontrol negatif), Polident Denture Cleanser Fresh (kontrol positif C. albicans), dan chlorhexidine gluconate 0,2% (kon-trol positif S. mutans). Jumlah koloni C. albicans dan zona hambat S. mutans dihitung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan jumlah koloni C. albicans terkecil dan zona hambat S. mutans terbesar pada konsentrasi ekstrak daun oregano 50 mg/ml. Simpulan penelitian ini ialah terdapat pengaruh ekstrak daun oregano terhadap plat resin akrilik yang dikontaminasi Candida albicans dan Streptococcus mutans. Abstract

Abstract: Staphylococcus aureus is a species of bacteria that causes denture stomatitis which is often found in removable denture wearers. Its management is carried out by eliminating pathogenic bacteria and cleaning dentures regularly. One of the natural ingredients that can be used in such condition is red fruit (Pandanus conoideus Lam) which has active compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids and triterpenoids. These active compounds are known to have antibacterial activity. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of red fruit fraction (Pandanus conoideus Lam) with n-Hexane and ethyl acetate as solvent against Staphylococcus aureus. The method used was the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method by testing various concentrations (100%, 90%, 80%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, and 3.125%) and measuring the inhibition zone diameter by using a caliper. The results showed that the red fruit fraction with ethyl acetate solvent at a concentration of 100% had an average inhibition zone diameter of 8.80 mm classified as medium category, followed by 90% and 80% respectively. In conclusion, ethyl acetate fraction of red fruit (Pandanus conoideus Lam) is effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. Penatalaksanaan dilakukan dengan mengeliminasi bakteri patogen dan rutin membersihkan gigi tiruan. Salah satu bahan alami yang dapat digunakan ialah buah merah (Pandanus conoideus Lam) yang mengandung senyawa aktif seperti flavonoid, alkaloid, steroid, dan triterpenoid yang diketahui memiliki aktivitas antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas fraksi buah merah (Pandanus conoideus Lam) dengan pelarut n-Heksana dan etil asetat terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Metode yang digunakan ialah metode difusi cakram Kirby-Bauer dengan menguji berbagai konsentrasi fraksi buah merah (100%, 90%, 80%, 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, dan 3,125%), dan pengukuran diameter zona hambat dilakukan menggunakan jangka sorong. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fraksi buah merah dengan pelarut etil asetat pada konsentrasi 100% memiliki rerata diameter zona hambat tertinggi sebesar 8,80 mm yang tergolong kategori sedang diikuti konsentrasi 90% dan 80%. Simpulan penelitian ini ialah fraksi etil asetat buah merah (Pandanus conoideus Lam) efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus. Abstract

Streptococcus mutans are bacteria in denture base plaque; therefore antibacterial ingredients are needed in denture cleaners. Red fruit (Pandanus conoiedeus Lam) from Papua has several secondary metabolites that can be used as antibacterial. This study is intended to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum kill concentration (MKC) of red fruit extract (RFE) against S.mutans as an acrylic resin-based denture cleaner using 96% ethanol solvent. With broth microdilution technique and 10% DMSO solvent, MIC was measured for 8 concentrations: 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.123%, 1,563% and chlorhexidine 0.2% as positive control. Furthermore, the MKC test was carried out using total plate count method and one-way Anova analysis with Post Hoc Tukey to determine significant differences between treatments. As a result, there were no MIC and MKC, because RFE have active compounds that are unable to penetrate the biofilm wall of S.mutans. It is con-cluded that RFE has no inhibitory and killing effect on the growth of S.mutans, so it cannot be used to determine the MIC and MKC. While the 0.2% CHX gluconate has an inhibitory and killing effect on S.mutans bacteria with an average killing power of 100%.

Abstract

Several improvements to the metal cast framework have been suggested since resin-bonded fixed partial dentures was introdu-ced. Essentially, there are twotypes of retainer designs based on retention namely macromechanical retention with a perforated retainer commonly referred to as Rochette bridge and micromechanical retention derived from the etched metal cast retainer called as Maryland bridge. This study is aimed to compare the tensile bond strength of anadhesive cement resin to an etch and perforated resin-bonded bridge. Using experimental laboratory design, the sample tested consisted of 10 plates Ni-Cr alloy,13 mm in diameter and 1 mm in thickness were divided into two treatment groups; five plates were perforated, and five plates were etched using Met-Etch Gel. Tensile strength was determined using an Ametek Llyod Instrument. The result showed that the strength of resin adhesive cement on the metal surface of alloyNi-Cr used etch higher than perforated. Statistical analysis used student t-test recorded t-test 2.75 and p-value 0.0125, so it said significant differences becausep-value was smaller than 0.05. This study showed that etch cast metal retainers were more retentive than perforated design.

Abstract

Abstract: Candida albicans is an opportunistic fungus that causes soft tissue infections in the oral cavity known as denture stomatitis, often experienced by removable denture wearers. Good denture hygiene can prevent the growth of this Candida albicans. Treatment using herbal plants is now increasingly being used, such as saga leaves, due to its potentisal antifungal activity. Saga leaves contain secondary metabolite compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, quinones, steroids/terpenoids. These active compounds have antifungal activity. This study aimed to determine the antifungal effect of n-Hexane and ethyl acetate extracts of saga leaves in inhibiting Candida albicans. This study used the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method with several concentrations: 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.125%, and 1.625%. The results showed that the ethyl acetate extract of saga leaves at a concentration of 50% had the highest value with a mean diameter zone of inhibition of 8.15 mm (medium category), meanwhile, n-Hexane extract of saga leaves at a concentration of 50% had a mean diameter zone of inhibition of 1.20 mm. In conclusion, the ethyl acetate extract of saga leaves can inhibit the growth of Candida albicans. Pemeliharaan kebersihan gigi tiruan dapat mencegah terjadinya pertumbuhan jamur Candida albicans. Pengobatan menggunakan tanaman herbal kini semakin dimanfaatkan seperti daun saga karena kandungan daun saga berpotensi memiliki efek melawan pertumbuhan jamur. Daun saga mengandung senyawa metabolit sekunder seperti flavonoid, alkaloid, tanin, saponin, kuinon, steroid/terpenoid. Senyawa aktif tersebut memiliki aktivitas antijamur. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek antijamur ekstrak nHeksana dan etil asetat daun saga dalam menghambat Candida albicans. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode difusi cakram Kirby-Bauer dengan beberapa konsentrasi yaitu 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, 3,125%, dan 1,625%. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan bahwa ekstrak etil asetat daun saga pada konsentrasi 50% memiliki nilai paling tinggi dengan rerata diameter zona hambat sebesar 8,15 mm (daya hambat sedang), sedangkan ekstrak n-Heksana daun saga pada konsentrasi 50% hanya memiliki rerata diameter zona hambat sebesar 1,20 mm. Simpulan penelitian ini ialah ekstrak etil asetat daun saga dapat menghambat pertumbuhan Candida albicans. Kata kunci: antijamur; Candida albicans; daun saga; denture stomatitis; gigi tiruan lepasan
